Official Thread New PS4 Owners Thread

Damn Soldier, welcome aboard hope you end up liking it. What's going to be your first game? Awesome setup you have there... sure beats mine.
Thanks! Well, I got the Don't Starve game on PSN+. But my first real retail game will be Killzone 4, followed by DriveClub and Uncharted 4. At least that is what I know now. If more comes that I am not aware of, and it appeals to me, I will get them! :)

Make sure to grab Trine 2, Flower, Resogun and Pinball Arcade. I found those to be great games.
I have Resogun so far, and played Flower on PS3. I will check out Trine and Pinball, thanks!!

I would just like to welcome myself to the PS4 club as of today!!! Hooking it up now! Add me to PSN!! Kvally is my PSN ID.

I have Soldier on my list, but I'll add Kvally tonight.

Heh forgot you can't change PSN names (dumb). Guess I can delete Soldier then and if I remember I will add your new tag.

I'll remove his dead ass then. What games did you get?

Soldier is long duck gone with my dead PS3 :( But I sold it on Ebay for $81.00. WOOT!

EDIT:

Oh, you already said what games. And don't listen to Valliance. KZ MP is "all that." Single-player is good. Better than COD and BF, anyway.

I played through all three on the hardest difficulties, and I'd rank them:

KZ
COD
BF

BF was especially disappointing. It was better than BF3, but that campaign was a disaster.

Thanks Blue. I was a fan of Killzone 3 and Killzone 2. Never played Killzone 1. I had better luck with the controls in KZ3 (could have been just a mind thing, or the fact that I got a third party controller), so I enjoyed the game more. However, I did like KZ2's campaign more. I did MP in both, but never to an extent.

Some were saying it was more of a tech demo. I don't want to drop $50 on KZ4 if it's a short game or some demo. I want it to be the full experience, SP and MP.

Welcome to the PS4 family.

Your mileage may vary when it comes to Killzone:SF multiplayer. I initially thought it would be something I would be hooked to. But that didn’t happen mostly due to annoying things like spawn camping which I’ve heard has since died down some. But the campaign was excellent in my opinion, a nice open world feeling with the freedom to tackle objectives when you feel like it. There are some high tension stealth moments and really incredible vistas to behold. I’m still holding on to the game for its co-op Horde mode which should be making its way to us soon I hope.

Not sure if it was from you but I did decline a PS4 friend request recently because the name wasn't familiar. If it was you my bad and you should resend the request. You went from Bogey to Soldier and now to Kvally so its tough keeping track of who you are. ;)

So here is my experience with the Playstation 4 so far, after having owned it about 48 hours.

I brought home my new toy and opened the box. The packaging is very "no frills", and much more environmentally friendly than the X1 packaging. I don't need the frills, and that all goes towards reducing the console price. I like it! Everything was nicely wrapped, and everything feels like quality. I should add that I have not taken the ear bud out of the bag. The HDMI cord is nice (though not X1 nice).

For the record, I obtained my PSN ID online before I bought and setup my PS4 just to be ready for the setup. Connections were self explanatory. Power cord, HDMI cord plugged in. USB cord plugged into front to prepare for the controller charging. Now I am ready to turn it on. The question is, where on earth is the power button!??! Took me quite a while to figure it out, embarrassingly! The power button subtlety, along with the eject button together like that is slick. The beep that resonated sounds just like the PS3 power on beep.

I was prompted for my language choice, as well as a multitude of other settings options, PSN ID entry, wireless connection and of course, the infamous DAY ONE update. Entered all the items and accepted all prompts and agreed to all legal mumbo jumbo that I never read.

WITH OUT A HITCH, my PS4 has now entered the world of online and offline gaming. I couldn't be anymore moist.

Hardware impressions are top notch. The console itself felt solid, well built and looks bad ass. The controller is awesome! Keep in mind, I am anti-PS controller from DS3 and back. I still hate the stick placement, but this controller is night and day better than any previous PS controller. Shoulder buttons, triggers, sticks, weight, d-pad are all solid in feel and very sensitive with no noticeable lag on input. I suspect I will never use the touch pad or the light sensor bar. Besides the stick positions, my only "complaint", which really isn't a complaint is the "share" and "option" buttons. The different location and shape of the buttons and having them on the side of the trackpad makes me fumble for them a little, but that is just an adjustment. I do wish it had a removable battery though. The HDMI cord is an HDMI cord, but you can tell it's feels better than a $1.50 HDMI cord you find on Amazon.

Software impressions are also top notch. We all know it's not as full featured, entertainment/media wise, as the X1. But when I bought the PS4, I wasn't looking for that. I just wanted a KISS dashboard, and that is what I got. The dashboard, which is 1080p is fast, colorful, and extremely easy to use. It has the bare necessities, and menu items are not buried under "right" click menus. Recently used items, web browser and game download icons on row one, and PSN Store, options, notifications, friends, etc on row two. That's it. It's all I need. For MS being a software company, Sony seems to have out done them with simplicity and ease of use.

The notifications menu is so nice. I love every aspect of it. I like how there are categories for upload, download, friends, etc. The only thing I found that seemed to be a bit of a nightmare to follow is the gaming feed. That is just garbage IMO. The rest, awesome. Playstation Live? Come on...seriously....I thought this was cool on OnLive, but on this console now? SAWEET! (where is your live feed MS??).

Games download/install/ready to play....BAM...fast. Much faster than on my X1. The UI, such as the ok, cancel, accept buttons, the keyboard layout, larger fonts and size are so much better than it was on the PS3. I love how they retained the memory for your frequently typed items (and the existing library). The browser I found to be better than the X1 browser. It actually looks and works like our traditional browser. I hate IE on Windows 8, and I don't like it on the X1 either.

One issue I have had is that it seems that games don't finish downloading/installing when I put the console in standby mode. Warframe and DC Universe downloads kept stopping with an error when I put the system in standby. Once I got out of standby and click on them to resume, it was fine. Happened to me each time now consistently. Am I doing it wrong?

The thing I miss the most from the X1 (outside of the games on X1) is the snap feature and the resume/standby game feature. Software wise that is. I still prefer the X1 controllers and games. But the PS4 is right there with my X1, and better in many aspects.

I have downloaded all the free stuff that I can, as far as games go, and apps. I plan to buy Killzone 4, followed by Driveclub and Uncharted 4. That will keep me happy for gaming on the PS4 for now.

Would I buy a PS4 over an X1? No, because I want the exclusives on both platforms that each offer, and I want the media functionality of the X1. If one were thinking about being a dual console owner, but haven't made the jump yet, I HIGHLY recommend a PS4 along side your X1 if you have the funds and the time. I like my toys, so I wasn't going to turn down this. I am glad I didn't. For the $379.00 I paid (I got a 5% discount using my Target Red Card), YOU JUST CAN'T GO WRONG.

I love my PS4!
Glad you are enjoying it. As for the downloading / updating while in standby, some titles (notably the two you tried, maybe an MMO thing, perhaps because they are not coming from the PSN servers) do not seem to work with this, but everything I have tried has worked fine. I often buy games from my cellphone while Im at work, and when I come home they are just ready to play.

I'll be getting a PS4 in the next couple weeks. Can't wait to see what all the hype is about. Greatness awaits!

I think you will find that you like the menus, and the ease of use. You get better notifications, and the downloads/installs are SUBSTANTIALLY faster. Controller is much improved over the DS3. I wouldn't even TOUCH the PS3 controller. The DS4 is great.

The only negatives I have found is poor battery life in DS4 and a loud fan.

Also, PS+... enough said. Get on that ASAP for those freebies.

My fan is dead quiet, never hear it.

After spending almost 3 months with the system i have to say that I'm in love with this Console. I just love how easy and convenient everything is. It all just....works! No bullsh!t no issues no nothing.

Log in with your existing PSN account? No problem, just a minute and you're done! You want to use your smartphone as a second screen? easy peasy just sync it up. You want to stream games to your Vita? Ha! there ya go all done in literally under a minute. Game installs? You don't even feel em!

My ONLY "complaint" is when syncing up multiple controllers. "Who is using this Controller" wtf does it matter? I just want to play games with my homies on the same screen. Other than that i can not think of a single bad thing about this system.

I don't think I've gone a day without using it since I got it, I am pretty much always a launch console buyer but I've never used a new console as much as I've used the PS4.

Needed some sh!t from Walmart and checked if they had any PS4s. They had nothing. I said screw it and bought a DS4 since i'll need it anyway. Now i'm committed to getting this console no matter what.

Guess i got desperate for something. I hadn't touched the DS4 yet and wanted to see the hype and it delivered. Popped it out of the packaging in the car and was instantly impressed. I love my Xbox One controller but Sony might have just topped them this time around. Talk about a comfortable controller. The DS4 is amazing.

Just got my PS4 today. I checked GameStop's website last night to see if they had any and it said low stock at my store. Called and they had one. Had them put it on hold until i could pick it up today. Greatness has arrived! I love this console already. Everything about it feels amazing. Especially the DS4.

Played some Call of Duty: Ghosts for the first time and got Killzone: Shadow Fall as well. Not sure what all the fuss is about when it comes to Ghosts but then again it's CoD so people are going to hate. Game is awesome. Going to start Killzone soon.

Hard to find but definitely not impossible. When i walked into the GameStop and saw the PS4 just sitting on the counter waiting for me i was like.. wait what's going on here? They just looked at me puzzled. I'm like everyone's trying to get one of these right now. They're like yeah, you're lucky.

Then when i walked outside the store with it i was expecting to get mugged. Nothing happened, it was shocking. I guess it's nice to live in a safe place. Can't imagine trying to do all that in the city. Glad i moved out of Boston awhile ago.

Get PS+ and download Outlast before March update is out!

Glad you finally found one TD! If you don't mind I'll send you a friend request tonight (CTW331)... If you are into Battlefield we'd love to have you aboard.
