New Star Wars Trilogys...

This makes me even more excited for The Last Jedi lol.

Here I come with the negative Nancy take. Didn't watch the video but this will be yet another trilogy on top of the main one, plus tie-ins? Just like Marvel I'm going to be burnt out in record time having two or three Star Wars movies a year.

This will replace the main one. I'm sure they didn't want to just go right into episode 10 in just a few years. So safe to assume 1 movie a year for at least the next decade.

That's... a little better I guess. Still not a fan of so many movies just like having the same game in a series every year or even two. Give me some damn time.

It was also announced that there would be a live action series to pad Disney's new Netflix competitor. I kind of figured it was only a matter of time.

As for the new trilogy, I've been saying all along that Rian Johnson was going to knock it out of the park. At least we know that Kennedy was really impressed. Now what era will it be in? If it's going to be an Old Republic trilogy, people will seriously go bananas!

Man, Lucasfilm REALLY has their hands full! They haven't even announced their third anthology movie yet! Pablo Hidalgo is going to need some help keeping track of it all. I honestly don't care, as long as it's quality...

Speaking of, now that JJ is on IX, is anyone else turn their nervousness to Solo? Ron Howard is an um, okay director. Still, he was stuck with the questionable casting and a real short schedule to apparently fix a mess. The potential of completely ruining one of the best characters in any movie ever, had always been my main concern. I'm hoping that Kasdan wrote a good script, and that Ehrenreich can make is actually believe that he is Han.

So Confederate canned? Can't see them doing both. Word is they might be doing KOTOR

If they are adapting something like KOTOR I'm ok with it but otherwise I just think they are that talented.

*David Benioff and D.B. Weiss meet with Disney execs to discuss writing new Star Wars trilogy

Disney suit 1: "We love your work guys but we have concerns regarding the sexual content".

Disney suit 2: "Yes this being a Disney owned franchise, we think your tendencies towards writing might be abit too..... rapey. You understand that we wouldn't be able to have any such things in the Star Wars universe?"

*Benioff and Weiss look at each other, get up and leave

Weiss to Benioff: "And I was so looking forward to the cantina gang rape scene".

David Benioff & D.B. Weiss' Star Wars film series reportedly takes place during the Old Republic, and the first installment is said to begin in the fall. This year, the biggest event in the Star Wars franchise is the premiere of Episode IX, which concludes the ongoing sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga as a whole. But as one era for the property ends, another begins. Lucasfilm is actively developing two separate film trilogies from Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff & D.B. Weiss. Both of these are completely disconnected from the Skywalker story and will look to expand the canon in a number of ways.

Of course, these movies have yet to secure release dates, so information about them is rather limited. The creative forces behind the two trilogies have kept busy working on different projects recently; Johnson is in post-production on his mystery-thriller Knives Out, while Benioff & Weiss have of course been overseeing the final season of Game of Thrones. But with HBO's fantasy hit coming to a close this year, the two will be turning their attention to the galaxy far, far away soon. And now, fans may know what they have in mind for their films.

“…approached about working on the next movie this Autumn. It is not the Rian Johnson trilogy, it is the Game of Thrones guys’ first movie, and it is set during the Old Republic, as Disney wants to open up the Star Wars timeline and appeal to a more ‘Game of Thrones‘ style audience.”

“Filming starts in the Fall and art departments are in design phases now as the script is being finalized. That is all I know but I am 95% confident that this is accurate.”

Walt Disney Company chairman Bob Iger confirmed that the next Star Wars film following The Rise of Skywalker will be from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, coming in 2022.

“We did a deal with David Benioff and D.B Weiss, who are famous for Game of Thrones, and the next movie that we release will be theirs,” Iger said. “And we’re not saying anything more about that.”

During the summit, Iger discussed the future of the Star Wars franchise in both film and television. Currently, two Star Wars shows are in the works for the new streaming platform, Disney+, but the company is planning on waiting three years between the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the next Star Wars film from Benioff and Weiss. Iger said the break was a deliberate choice on the part of the company, following the latest trilogy and two spinoff films, Solo and Rogue One.

“[We thought] it would be smart for us to take a bit of a hiatus while we figure out what’s next. Now, we’re not going to wait until [The Rise of Skywalker] is released and start figuring it out, we’re actually hard at work doing that already,” he said. “The conclusion that we reached was that three years was the proper amount of time to not only take a breather and reset, but to really gear up for the next film’s release.”

- written by Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Altered Carbon, Alita Battle Angel).
- Script in development since spring 2018, drift for the first script in a trilogy soon to be finished.
- Report namedrops Bastila Shan, Darth Malak and Darth Revan as potential characters (which is a given to me).
- Unclear if this project and GoT creators' reported trilogy are related.
