Switch 2 - 2024/2025

Honestly if it plays game at 1080 or 1440 at a locked 60 I’d be happy, hopefully the latter for docked and former when mobile.

Nintendo games aren’t really visual intensive, but the worlds seem to be, with the AI and amount of objects that tend to be the reason behind stuttering and such with the current switch…note I’ve really only noticed it BotW and Hyrule warriors

Gonna skip this gen. I'll hold on to my switch, don't get me wrong, but I'm not a fan of Nintendo's online model, and significant changes would need to be made to get me to jump back into that pool.

Now that they've announced the next Zelda title and release date I can absolutely see them releasing a new version with it

Today would have been the day to announce it. But then this is similar to the Wii U/Switch version of BotW.

Doesn't matter. Getting your hands on one will be worse than ps5

I think Nintendo could do without RT support, but if they keep it as an option for devs to use it then I’m with that. Maybe the off raytracing whilst in portable mode? Maybe 1440 at 60 tops? They don’t seem to want or need to go above 60. But if other devs want let them figure it out.

If I were Nintendo I wouldn't change anything. The Switch is still selling extremely well and their exclusives don't even have to be good to print money for them (see Pokemon Scarlet). Just sit back and rake in the cash for as long as you can.

Rumors of a more powerful Switch – often dubbed by fans as the Switch Pro – have persisted for years. The thought was that Nintendo would come out with a new piece of hardware that isn’t quite a successor, but would be a step up from what we have now. Presumably this theoretical device would allow for things such as technical improvements when it comes to aspects like frame rate and resolution and perhaps even better visuals.

Digital Foundry’s John Linneman has now weighed in on the situation in the outlet’s latest podcast. After speaking with some developers, he believes Nintendo was at once point toying around with a Switch hardware refresh. However, “that seems to no longer be happening” and the company is apparently pursuing a true successor instead.

Linneman’s full words:
“So I think at one point internally from what I can understand from talking to different developers, is that there was some sort of mid-generation Switch update planned at one point and that seems to be no longer happening. And thus it’s pretty clear that whatever they do next is going to be the actual next-generation hardware. I don’t think it’s going to be 2023.”

Linneman would go on to say that in his view, Nintendo is likely nervous about transitioning to what will come next after Switch given past generations. After the GameCube didn’t do too well, we saw the Wii which sold over 100 million units. However, with Wii U which came next, it was one of Nintendo’s worst-selling systems. The company is now back on top again with Switch which is one of its best-selling consoles ever. There’s been a little bit of a pattern with one system doing well, and then the next one taking a step back.
