With both MS and Sony confirming backwards compatibility for the next gen consoles the future is presenting itself with a choice that we don’t know what will be packed in any future game.

Will we be given the option to buy Halo Infinite and Death Stranding for this gen and when we purchase said new consoles will we expect them to be enhanced on them (XB4/PS5)? Maybe have the high res assets on a second disc? Or will we have to purchase said “enhanced update” so they can recoup some funds for that extra effort?

Will we have to purchase said games again as it’s specifically made/optimized them to see it at its full glory?

On the Sony front, not sure.

I think with MS not having exclusives for next gen for the first couple of years they will have to offer enhancements for free...especially with all their gameds tied to gamepass.

I'll only buy once anyway.

I also find it breathes new life into a game when you can see the upgrade half way through a play-through (happened to me with Ass Creed Origin ).

I don't see much point in waiting to buy the other version unless you are also waiting for a price drop.

Depends on the game I guess. I rarely play a game a second time though so very unlikely to buy again. Hopefully if the game is currently in development that the devs have something in store for that. Either a current gen version that can be patched once next gen arrives, or just free upgrade to next gen version if patching isn't possible.

I have a feeling Sony may have the same issue with exclusives as well...with most of their major studios releasing games this year and the next we may not see a big AAA game until 2020 and released then in 2021

Not so sure about that.

I'll have to judge it on a game-by-game basis, but I don't often replay games, and I wouldn't want to pay full price to double-dip, so if I were going to do it, I'd wait for a price drop.

Most of us know PlayStation won’t have any first party cross gen exclusives (maybe enhanced/goty), but third party titles most likely will.

So if both next gen and current systems will have online games like COD, will we see walls put up again for the player base or the option to do so?

I ask because if both next gen consoles have SSDs with super quick loading times for map/matches...would those players want to segregate themselves from having to wait with longer loading times with last gen players?

Seems like a waste of time to segregate because of load times.

Both about speed? And how fast one can enjoy/play said game?

maybe I’m just nitpicking and or should go to sleep... just binged the whole fourth season of the expanse and have yet to sleep 😣
They are not, though. One impacts the experience for every second you play and would create an uneven and unfair playing field. The other makes you wait another 30 seconds and would be limited to and phased out after 1 or 2 years anyway.

It is nitpicking somewhat, but is also unfair when you buy a new console and are still limited and held back by the previous one.
