Nivida: Our console does 1080p 60fps multiplatforms for $199

I just watched them do an fps test for SF5 and it test at 300fps lol

yeah looks like 1080p/60fps is bare minimum they are promising.

Who is this aimed at?

Imagine if the DDOS jackasses attack this. It would literally be a paper weight everytime it happens.

I like the idea of it being future proof more than the other two consoles, 1080p 60fps is only a dream for these weak consoles NOW, imagine games like BF6 or Battlefront, good luck. Its cool because the stream is literally from a supercomputer so you can get higher than 60fps.

Actually, 1080P@60FPS is also a dream for this console. Crappy android games will reach that, sure, same as they would on all the other consoles. The games that we actually care about will have to be streamed by supercomputers to your console. Any console from the PS1 could do that.

Nividia can do controlled demos of this service and make grand claims, but so far this kind of tech has proven to be far inferior to a solid console. Lets see how it does when millions of people want to play at the same time.

We'll see. Maybe Nvida is BS'ing millions.

Yeah idk what they claimed for PS Now, I don't remember them claiming 1080p or anything. Nvida is claiming 1080p/60fps so we'll see how that works.

I wasn't talking about PS Now. Anyway, bad jokes aside, I am certainly sceptical but hope it is all they claim it to be.

Lies. There is a trickery in this. Oh wait, they are talking about video streaming. Figures.

Indeed. I think if the KZ3 PS Now version I played is any indication that it can work, I'm excited, especially for a console built around streaming. I had no lag, and it looked great.

Am I missing something? Are Android games all that this thing will play? I don't care if this thing can play angry birds at 16k resolution @600fps if all it will play are terrible Android games.

Technically, yes. I mean as far as I can tell the OS is android. However, they are porting big games to the OS. Games Like Crysis 3, Dead Rising 2, Batman:AO, Witcher 3, Metro Redux.

This thing has a Tegra X1 CPU with a 256bit Maxwell GPU with 3GB of memory. The Latter sounds promising till you factor in price, @ only $200 this thing is obviously not going to pack the power of a GTX 900 series card.

I can see this being a cool feature down the road and for people who aren't interested in owning any games. But 150ms of latency (minimum I'm assuming) means this is a non-starter for most competitive gaming. It's something I would certainly like to try out, but I definitely couldn't see this being my go-to gaming platform.

Well they demoed Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid 5, so, no. Not just android games.

To be more specific, they are offering a Game Streaming service (Grid), which will have all new releases (Witcher 3, Dying Light etc etc) that you can buy and stream, as well as other games to stream in a bit of a Netflix subscription style and this console will have it's typical Android games, plus their own specific games they have had available: I saw the new Borderlands game, Limbo, Contrast etc etc, a bunch more, but nothing crazy.

Just because the cloud processors can power a game to 300fps, doesn't mean you can get higher than 60fps. 60fps is the cap, that SF4 may have benchmarked to 300fps, but the end users screen is capped at 1080p/60fps. Just the same, they could probably render the game at 4k, but that doesn't mean the user will see that either.

Anyways, I get 275fps in that same benchmark on my laptop. It's not that amazing to be honest.

I don't know. I remember reading some reviews from the GRID BETA on the portable shield console and they hardly filled me with great confidence. One stated that 60PS would not be console smooth unless you had at least 30Mbps internet. Even then, if you didn't have a game stream ready router and that kind of internet speed then the experience could be woeful.

Yes, I know, it was a BETA and on a wireless device. However, Nividia gave a base speed of 10Mbps for 60PS. If the same holds for 1080P @60FPS then that 15Mbps they claimed was needed is going to be more like 45Mbps. The Global Average speed is around half that, and that includes inflated speeds from businesses and colleges.

It's a cool gadget. And I love gadgets. I may get this just for the 4K video content.

For games and movies what kind of storage will it have? Everything stored in the cloud?

After watching the conference I want one. I doubt my PC can play Witcher 3 at 1080P/60. I know neither next gen console will.

Streaming games are awful no matter the platform. Their game stream on a local LAN in my opinion is basically unplayable so this will definitely not be playable. I won't comment l the GRID beta as their only server was in San Jose and I'm in NJ so that was beyond unplayable.

I saw mention of 16GB:surprise:

as for 4K content, is there really anything of worth out there?

My experience with KZ3 on ps4 stream was quite the surprise. It ran smooth and looked great. Multiplayer resolution was off.

Yea being able to play Batman, Battlefront, and Witcher 3 at 1080p/60fps is enticing.

Like I said, we have different definitions of playable.

Lets put it this way, the controller latency in KZ2 was basically unplayable for me.

I'm not really impressed with this at all. I guess I'd have to see a live demo or something.

I'm simply comparing quality of the ps3 disc version of KZ3 to stream version, it was the same other the multiplayer resolution. I have experience with both, that's why I'm excited at the possibilities, obviously nothing is settled. I'll have to wait to get it home to try, and if it doesn't work after a little while, I'll sell it or return it, no problems.

I was all for the idea of streaming until I tried out the ps4 streaming this past weekend. I didn't think the minimal controller lag would affect me, but it completely changed Ninja Gaiden for me. It was unplayable.
Now if their claims are true with this it sounds great, otherwise I will remain skeptical. I never realized that just milliseconds of lag mattered so much.

Wait, I thought "forced" online was a bad thing? What if you wanted to take your console to a deserted island? :hehe:

Never mind the streaming and all that, if there is no first-party development, then it is a no go. Just saying.
