Offical TakeDown: Red Sabre Thread

Seems these small indie teams don't do a lot of quality control testing. That bothers me because I gave Serellan my money to make this game, and while I haven't downloaded it yet, just reading the issues makes me regret giving him my money.

Hell, in my job, I write proposals for million dollar bids, my proposals get fact checked and proofed by several parties before it goes to print to the client.

Seems in the video game biz, faulty products can be released and patched later. I hate that.

I won't bash Serellan, but I have to agree. Games should be released when they are free of bugs like this. No exceptions.

The other thing to think about too is all of us gamers are shown very polished games before a "new concept" releases. The moment that new game doesn't feature the staples that other games have such as simple UI browsing, menus, options galore, etc...we automatically dislike the game.

Once you've tasted something great, it's tough for another product to come along and be better or just as good...

Let's be fair to a lot of the complaints, a lot of them are very valid complaints. Buggy, AI issues, hit detection issues, issues with not being able to run the game, very limited setting options, very bad animations, etc.

Yup, some valid complaints. Some things need to be addressed, and they will. But let's be fair, most games have bugs and quirks (including GTA5) when they release, and EVERY game receives complaints, mostly from the vocal minority. People love to rain on the parade of others, especially when they don't get their way. Whatever.

This is NOT a $60 AAA release. It's a $15 indie title, on a shoestring budget with 10 devs. That's impressive to me, and I'll give them time to mature their product before putting a fork in it. If you like tactical shooters, I see no reason why you shouldn't be super excited about Takedown, because it's only going to get better with its inevitable patch(es). The core gameplay already looks to be great. Love it!

So...I'm hoping the 360 version will have the better launch, with LIVE negating two of the main grievances: the server and communication issues. On the other hand, there tend to be more immature, ritalin addicts on console than on PC, expecting COD pray and spray gameplay, so, yeah, maybe not.

I think your perception of which platform has more idiots is skewed by which platform has built in communicators.

I am sorry to say this game it's not ready for release. I played for few hours and it's so loaded with bugs I don't even want to bother listing them.

Save your money if you can. And I tried to be open minded.

:D you're probably right.

as for this game, yeah, it's broken. It's fixable but how long is it going to take? Just hope that Serellan holds off on the 360 version until it's much more finished, even if that takes until 2014.

It doesn't matter if it's 15, 60, or 5 dollars. Consumers expect a somewhat functioning game that they pay for. It's one thing for a great game to have bugs (like GTA5), but it's a different story when the game itself is just so buggy, so cruddy, so low budget, there's barely any enjoyment in that. Many were expecting a R6 wannabe, and what they got, was a basement made low budget game that's devoid of any redeeming value (as of right now). The "idea" of the game doesn't make it a good game.

If you like tactical shooters, there are other better ones, that although old, are still being played.

Yes and no. Takedown is a "somewhat functioning game" right now and I've been to enough forums to know that plenty of people are still enjoying their $15 spent. If this had cost us $60, I'd be a lot more cynical. So the price point does matter. Furthermore, it's naive to think it's going to stay in this semi-broken state. It's fixable, and changes will be made.

That is wrong. It was NOT made in a basement. :p And again, it has redeeming value to many, even in its current state.

If you like tactical shooters, there are other better ones, that although old, are still being played.
Not on the 360, unfortunately. :( Vegas 1 & 2, the GRAWs are all an embarrassment, not because they were buggy but because they had lousy nontactical gameplay mechanics and horrible AI (worse than what I've seen in any Takedown video).

This game is going to get better. Without any new competition in the tac sim genre, it'll get a second chance.

And going through those forums, there appears to be more dissatisfied with their purchase. I don't care if it's going to stay in this broken state or if it's going to be fixed....if I pay for a game, I expect to "mostly" work fine.

That is wrong. It was NOT made in a basement.
Sarcasm....you missed it. It doesn't matter if it was made by a small team. So many indie small teamed games come out more solid than this. It's unacceptable for something people have to pay for.

Did I say on 360 or refer to V1 or 2?

This game is going to get better. Without any new competition in the tac sim genre, it'll get a second chance.
That's something no one can predict. You can hope it'll get better, it might get better, but people may move on by the time it does.

Sarcasm....you missed it.
It was said in jest. i.e. Joke....you missed it. (hence the smiley) See, something like this :p usually means there is something up with the post. As does this. But even the context of my reply should have been enough for 90% of those reading it.

Did I say on 360 or refer to V1 or 2?
You said there are better tactical shooters out there (which there are) but given this is an Xbox forum, where people who prefer to play on Xbox come to discuss games, I said there are unfortunately none on this platform and gave examples of poor attempts by big studios to cater to this crowd, doing so before someone else (not you, necessarily) tries to cite those as examples to counter my claim.

True enough, but I choose to be a glass half full kinda guy, whereas others, not so much.

Fair enough....but in context, we're talking about the state of the pc version.

Yikes!

By Brett Todd
Takedown: Red Sabre is an unfinished, broken mess of a tactical shooter that offers not even one redemptive bright spot.
The Bad
Broken and incomplete Terrible enemy AI No squad options when it comes to engaging in tactical battles Buggy, limited multiplayer modes of play.

There is nothing in Takedown: Red Sabre that would encourage even the most middling sort of recommendation. Even the sound quality is awful. Weapon fire sounds as if it's coming from everywhere, making it impossible to locate enemies shooting at you by the sound, even when they're blazing away with something as loud as a combat shotgun. This is a game that should not have been released in its current state, and is certainly not one you should waste your time and money on.

I'm hoping it will be a little bit better for the Xbox, since they should have optimized and tested it, but I'm afraid this may just be a big disappointment.

HOW DARE YOU TEASE ME TAKEDOWN!!!!!!

If you can cancel pre-order do it...

I personally wish I could get a refund even if it was just $15.

Maybe "Maybe" in the future the game will be ready but as of right now it smells like a DOA game all over.

The reviews and YouTube clips are based off the day 1 release/fiasco. I believe there's been several patches in the past week. Has anyone here tried it since? Just curious if it's playable now.

The game hasn't patched once for me I don't believe.

Edit: Actually just looked and it did patch today.

wow, this looks like it turned out to be a huge disaster... and I went through the War Z launch (to be fair, I actually enjoy that one, now called Infestation).
