CB rendering for 4K hmm, not sure about this.

That 100% 60FPS lock though in PS5 RT off mode. :bang:

VGTech's PS4/Pro/PS5 comparison:

PS4 Pro in Prioritize Screen Resolution Mode, PS5 with Ray Tracing On and PS5 with Ray Tracing Off all render at a resolution of 3840x2160 using what appears to be Checkerboard Rendering.
There's noticeable ghosting on PS4 Pro that isn't present to the same extent on the other consoles.
PS4 Pro in Prioritize Frame Rate Mode renders at a native resolution of 1920x1080.
PS4 renders at a native resolution of 1600x900.

is checker boarding essentially 1440p or is it 4K-I (interlaced)?

It's neither, I believe it's more complex than that. The article explains it much better. Although they are talking about the Pro and X1X, I believe devs are using the same techniques.

"There are basically two types of Checkerboarding that can be utilized. One of them is the Interpolation based rendering technique, which is quite dated and another one is the newer Temporal Checkerboard rendering technique, which is used by PS4 Pro and Xbox One X developers for their games."

Let's kick off with PlayStation 5, which renders at 4K resolution, albeit with evidence reconstruction via checkerboarding. CBR artefacts only present on foliage and hair and they're barely noticeable and the impression is of a game that looks really good on a 4K screen. Run with ray tracing off and the experience is totally locked to 60fps. Turn ray tracing on and effectively it's the same thing - albeit with some drops into the 50s. It's not the 45fps Capcom mentioned, but this may represent a worst case scenario. Really, RE Village runs with an unlocked frame-rate across all modes and all systems.
Is ray tracing worth the performance hit? We'd say no based on what we've seen so far. RT offers up low resolution reflections and a diffuse GI pass (which also replaces screen-space ambient occlusion), along with some additional smoke in the fire sequence, but there's definitely the sense that RT is a bonus add-on grafted onto what is very much a cross generation experience.

Looks like Resident Evil Village uses some FidelityFX features in the PS API.

FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS)
FidelityFX Single Pass Downsampler (SPD)
FidelityFX Combined Adaptive Compute Ambient Occlusion (CACAO)

So just finished the demo. The graphics look pretty good for a cross gen here in the castle. Performance is smooth throughout but that big hallway performance drop from the previous visual showcase demo is still there. Gameplay feels good when I turned off the camera wobble, and aim camera acceleration. The enemies seem like they are more bullet spongey? Even at casual I headshot a normal enemy and it takes like 3 headshots and a body shot. I did complete the demo but I didn't get a chance to replay it. Might go through the village and castle demo next weekend to experience it more since I didn't get to play Village last weekend.

All my life, I've lived by a code. And the code is simple:
Honor the gods, love your woman... ...and defend your country.
Also, don't play horror games.
Have you not watch one of the greatest movies of all time starring MW

Played the Village part of the demo and didn't really enjoy myself. Something about how incapable my character was in killing the few zombies in there put me off.

When are they going to add VRR to PS5? It seems like it was running at 57-59 fps a lot of the time. If they had VRR, you would be able to tell it apart from the XSX.
Dono, i thought the hardware....it may be up to Sony to flip that switch in a update or it may be up to the dev.

Definitely felt like the enemies are a bit too bullet spongey. If I'm shooting someone in the head 3 times in a row on normal, I'm expecting them to die already.

Yeah wasn’t in love with the demo. I didn’t plan to buy day 1 anyway so not a big deal for me

Some downright horrid textures on some things. This coming from playing the PC version maxed out completely with RT ~ 120fps @ 3440x1440p ultrawide HDR.

Yes, I feel this engine isn't made for first person, looks much better in re2 remake where you don't get up close as much.
It was the first thing I noticed when I tried to play RE7, that and the motion sickness induced camera, even without the head bob it still made me lay down for an hour after playing for only 10 min.

I wonder if the whole game is on there or a good chunk of the first part.

Good question. I think it just ends after a predetermined scripted event though. My demo ended after the
vampire lady that is composed of flies cornered me in a room after chasing me through an underground area
I still had time left on my time limit.

How did you feel about the demo though?
I'm NOT as impressed as I once was about the game. I think it looks good in most places but some rare places it looks rough. I also don't like how helpless my character feels.

It was more or less like RE7 which I liked but enemies need to be dialed down a bit, they are too tanky IMO right now. I finished both village and castle demo's too to the end.

Inside areas looked good in some places like the castle, village was kind of meh. RT is not very apparent, looks like just for some GI?

I still preordered because I know I'll be playing it at some point. Might as well use my Amazon promo cash.
