Reviews seem decent so far. Both metacritic and opencritic are around 85 score.

Maybe i just haven't been paying attention, but I don't remember a major Resident Evil game releasing with so little hype and excitement.

How's the game?

It's okay. It isn't meant to reinvent the series like RE4 and to a lesser extent RE7 did.

People are comparing it to RE4 but with the dressing of RE7 and a touch of RE6.

I got it on the PC. From what I've played of the demo it has the tension moments and atmosphere pretty spot on. If you liked RE7 you will like this.

I watched some stream footage. Games looks good. It’s not next gen, very few games are.
It not very scary from the footage I seen, and base on the footage I seen, not particularly hard also. But the save points seems very stingy. I really hate when I need to repeat extended period of gameplay due to lack of saving.

I bought the game on steam. Hopefully, it works well with Mouse/keyboard. I do not have a gamepad for my PC.
I bought the standard 59,99€ version. The special edition is pretty lame for the extra 12€ price.

Played for about an hour. The starting area was a bit scary in the dark. It wasn't that scary once you go out of the initial darkness.
The one thing that adds the tension & discomfort is you do not know where/when is the next save point/checkpoint, & how far you will be rolled back on death. Thankfully in an early check sequence & dead quite a fair bit, due to poor design interaction, but the checkpoint wasn't too far back.

Am I only one of the only few playing this game. Funny as I barely bothered about this game until the game launched (as I avoid horror games, & movies for that matter).

Mid game review:
I play super slow, (I am the type that will backtrack to save point after killing some mobs or done key actions which add to the time). I play on default difficulty which is okayish. Ammo is pretty generous for a RE game, & upgrades are affordable as long as you are selective & explode every area reasonably.

I like the map system (first used in RE2 remake) where it shows if you have complete search the area (blue -complete, pink-incomplete) as well as highly which doors, structures you have to interact with but cannot access & in many cases, which key to use when applicable. This made exploration so much better. WHy didn't more game uses this system is beyond me.

The puzzles are the better ones, not just as RE games, but in general. What makes it good, is many are quite logical. It is also Metriodmania vile with areas unlocked over time with more tools/items, similar to some other RE games.

Considering it took place in one location, there is a great level of diversity & you do not ever feel overly copy pasta like many times.

My copy finally shipped after complaining to Amazon (gave me some credit too). Should be arriving today. I'll start playing it sometime next week. Heard the campaign is pretty short.

I avoided RE7 because the demo made me uncomfortable with its grotesque sense of horror. But I've been watching reviews and playthrough vids of this one and its been described as theme park horror, spooky but not overly gross like the last game. And now because of that description I'm interested in this game. I'll probably wait for it to go on sale though since I'm not a big fan of horror games even if its only mildly scary.

I have heard from others that Returnal is scarier than RE8 because of the tension of losing all your progress when you die.

Been reading that the load times on the PS5 are kind of insane... can anyone confirm?

In like for like, the Ps5 loaded in 1 second while XSX loaded in 4. In another, it took 2 seconds for the PS5 to load, and for the same scene it took the XSX 8-9 seconds?

I'm confused. What load times are we talking about because I haven't experienced any.

This is one of the better Resident Evils I've played. Each section of the games brings a different kind of horror. The castle has a tense Resident Evil 3 feel to it as you're stalked by a giant of a woman. I dread opening a door to a hallway not knowing if she's there or not. The dollmaker area is scarier than hell. It's where I'm at now and it has a totally different feel than the first part. They did a really good job with horror aspect in this section. Plus I hate creepy dolls.
Personally, I think the graphics are fantastic.
Well, I'm off to get the s*** scared out me some more.

Now, 8-9 sec loading is too long.......
RDR2 took minutes on my PS4. Things have progressed greatly.

On PC, the only noticeable loading is initial loading on continue/new game, which like 4.5 sec or so. It was too shot to notice.

The game is on the short side. I am a slow gamer (the type that will backtrack to save), but even so, I am almost done base on the guide. I just taking a break to "get my money" worth.

Yeah it is a huge jump from last gen.

RDR2 is an open world to be fair. RE is more corridor like.

Wish I wasn’t such a chicken but I just don’t like horrors. Looks great though. Enjoy all you lot brave enough.

I have a condition called Pediophobia/Automatonophobia which is fear of dolls/mannequins, & one level is very uncomfortable for me. Thankfully it was pretty short, & I reduce the phobia by having youtube on another screen.

Those old school lifelike porcelain/chalky mannequins/dolls with eye sockets, hair are most scary for me.

Loving the game so far. Although it's in first person, it reminds me a lot like RE4. I hope an RE4 remake is on Capcom's table.
