About an hour in, got to where the demo was. The gunplay is meh so far. Feels so feathery and no oomph to your guns.

Yah, the gunplay is mediocre at best. That's my main issue with the game. I am digging the environment and the brief jump scare moments.

I only played the demo but the guns didn't feel very good, it didn't help that it wouldn't invert the aiming in the demo even though it gave the option to change the setting.

Now, 8-9 sec loading is too long.......
RDR2 took minutes on my PS4. Things have progressed greatly.

On PC, the only noticeable loading is initial loading on continue/new game, which like 4.5 sec or so. It was too shot to notice.

The game is on the short side. I am a slow gamer (the type that will backtrack to save), but even so, I am almost done base on the guide. I just taking a break to "get my money" worth.
I wonder how much shorter sequels from established games are going to feel with the loading almost eliminated? Some games like ES titles load every time you walk into or out of a building hopefully that'll be eliminated in the next one.

RDR2 on PS5 and Series X both load quite a bit faster and that's without devs doing anything to actually take advantage of the SSD,s the Series X loads about 12 seconds faster than the PS5 on that game and the PS5 shaves about a minute off of the loading time from the PS4 version.

It's easy to get spoiled, going from the dashboard to gameplay in 12 seconds on spider-man is crazy or only taking 2 seconds to load from the options menu of the game. I am really looking forward to when all games are built to take full advantage of these SSD's.

This feels easy compared to what I had to deal with in Returnal, lol.

I do like that a lot of loot is dropping for me so far so I can upgrade my guns and also it seems like there's enough ammo and healing items that I can craft so I don't feel like I'm low on anything.

I have a condition called Pediophobia/Automatonophobia which is fear of dolls/mannequins, & one level is very uncomfortable for me. Thankfully it was pretty short, & I reduce the phobia by having youtube on another screen.

Those old school lifelike porcelain/chalky mannequins/dolls with eye sockets, hair are most scary for me.
Just completed that area. It was pretty scary and for a moment had driven me insane. It must've been a horrible experience for you. lol

The game is on the easy side for sure. If not for the limited checkpoint & ammo (not not that bad compare to RE remake), the game an be fly though half asleep. All bosses so far is also easy & can be done in first try. Some are pretty interesting though & I like boss fights that do not drag too long or have multiple phases. Thank god also for no one-shot BS. I think its more interesting for bosses to be interesting than hard.
There are a few mini bosses that are very spongy though & required a lot of ammo.

It took me awhile but finally made it out of the doll maker's house. What a horrifying yet awesome experience. Kudos to Capcom for that one.

I just got here and started at B1. I'm taking my sweet time going through the game and all the rooms to try and clear/make them blue.

Tpwards the end, ammo hard to come by, even with craft, buy, as the mobs are bullet sponge that need a lot of rounds to get down, & the cystals they give barely, if at all compensate the resource to down them. Together with upgrade, when if you are thorugh, you will always be short of leis($).

If I got accidently got hit, or waste rounds, often I just retart, but maybe I am too conservative.

I have played gamea, cough Metro Exdux that I ran out of ammo, & the game auto save ( & its one of those game with ONE SAVE), making the game essentally over. I could technically restart the level, but it was an hour agao, & I said Fk it. Thats why I am so anal about conserving ammo & consumables.

I we almost done with the game, but decide to stop & did some reading (on creative writing), as planned. I should be able to finish the game by this evening. I will write a short review when done.

Done with the game. Here is a short review.

Graphics: I play at 1440p with RT on PC(medium setting), the graphical setting is high/max out. I think it looks great if you considered this is essentially a cross-gen game still restricted by the lower denominator OG XBOX 1.

What makes the visuals great isn't so much the technical aspect but also the art direction. The village looks believable, & the different locations are surprisingly diverse consider it took place literally in one village, with some nice & creepy interior & disturbing outdoors. Great selective use of environmental effects like fog and darkness when need. The physiologic of fear is that overused of fear effects like darkness/jump scare will lose the fear factor. RE 8 hit the right spot in this front, with selective use of extra fear effects like fog, sounds, darkness etc.

Gameplay. Gameplay is a combination of explorations/puzzles & gunplay. Puzzles and exploration are similar to the previous RE game, but in general better & more "logical" especially the puzzles. Lame min puzzle game (like make light all same color, or some tic toe) to unlock something was dished for some environmental ones & some are pretty well done.

There is still the standard fare of finding keys, missing pieces to open a previously accessible place, which will not win any price in innovation, but its the journey of exploration/kill monsters to get these items than for the "puzzle"

The main village acted as a central hub that you will return and parts of it will open/close depends on progress as well as tools like keys. It kinda metromania lite but there is certainly quite a bit of backtracking & point at every corner of a room especially if you do not use guides to try to get as much map completion as possible.

At the default difficulty, the game is I would say on the easier side, provided you conserve ammo, upgrade selectively, & explore thoroughly to get enough treasures/crystals (leftover of foes) to upgrade.

You are very unlikely to throw your controller or slam your mouse at any boss fight, but occasionally you may want to considered replay a boss fight to reduce consumables/ammo in the fight. I personally done it in quite a few boss/min boss fights.

I think most boss fights is well done, & some have some mechanic/gimmick but never overdone or required crazy dodge or precision. As long as you understand the pattern/mech, & your aim is half decent, you should be fine for most miniboss/boss fights

I almost ran out of ammo against the final boss and I am very stingy with my ammo, & my main weapon shotgun was maxed out in damage. Near the end, they throw a lot of mobs & bullet sponges at you & you will run out of ammo very fast. I haven't played a lot of RE recently but compare to the RE2 remake, the ammo here is even less (but milage may vary).

Be careful with ammo, & make use of mines/pipe bombs against multiple foes when possible to conserve ammo.

I have heard a lot of some complain about the combat, but I think they did a decent job & the game is not supposed to play like a typical shooter. If I have to nitpick, I do not know why many games feel the need to turn the gun facing you when reloading. This is not how trained shooters reload.

Lastly the story.
It's a typical RE story, passable but nothing brain-blowing, but decent by video game standard which isn't saying a lot. There is a CoD section (you know what I mean when you reached that) near the very end that changes the pace & pretty cool for the short section.

Final verdict: 8.3/10

I'm at the middle of fighting in the lake now. These framerate drops are pretty noticeable. It seems the water RT significantly tax the consoles running the game.

Is it the same for PC? starseeker DarkPassenger

PC players are too busy using this mod to notice

Just beat the game. Fantastic IMO. I’m gonna try to get all the achievements, but we will see. Gonna do some clean up and then attempt the speed run with the knife.

Just beat it now, clocked in at almost 12 hours and that's exploring everything pretty much and beating all the optional bosses.

Enjoyed the experience, it was more or less like RE7. Rate it similarly to it, thought that the castle part was fantastic but kind of fell off towards the end. That post-credits cutscene though, damn!
