Oh Square-Enix. You never change. :rolleyes

Apparently it's financial issues within the company. So those financial issues are the weeds that need to be pulled out. Honestly, I'm still a bit surprised they haven't done more ports of old Final Fantasy games to the 360 and Wii/Wii U. It's money left on the table. Same for the Kingdom Hearts game.

Square(like Capcom and some others)is one of those companies in danger becoming the next THQ.

I think also that FF XIV is hurting them now that everybody backed out on the $15 a month sub which I still dont know why they did that.

Most times when games are delayed it's either because they need more time or because they are trying to put the games in different financial quarters to pad yearly/quarterly results for all the stockholders.

But you also have to then consider why they are announcing themselves that they are having financial problems for stockholders to hear in the first place.

I've got another "WTF Square-Enix" news item.

A lot of us have been waiting for a return to the Legacy of Kain universe. But this?

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed about that.

At this point I would be fully willing to pay $60 for a remastered Soul Reaver 1+2 pack. Then, hopefully that would sell well enough so that we could get Soul Reaver 3. Unfortunately they'll likely never do that because the Tomb Raider reboot failed horribly selling only 4+ million copies. I mean you have to remember that if you don't do COD numbers then your game is a failure.

As for Capcom. Maybe if they stopped being greedy dicks by re-releasing the same game every 3 months with the tiniest amount of new content and adding "super", "ultimate" or "arcade" to the title they would have more revenue.

I just don't think they are capable, both financially and technically.

I have no ides what their quarterly reports are nor their balance sheet but I'll take a guess....

SE games still sell pretty well. They also are lucky to have fanbases that will buy up old ports leading to more money. So I don't think top line sales are the issue.

Problem is likely that it takes too much money to make these games. All these SE RPG games seem to have a ton of art, cut scenes, actors doing voice overs and such which leads to big overhead.

I don't know, they may remaster Soul Reaver for you, if they can get full retail price for something that takes minimal effort. That seems more their style these days. The days when we would get gems like FFVII and Brave Fencer Musashi out of Square are long gone, I fear.

If a company with a game selling 4+ million copies (in only about 6 months) is considered a failure then the game was poorly managed with out of control budgets. And that assumes "failure" for TR really meant it either lost money or made hardly any money.

Tomb Raider was simply a good action game. It's not like it has the highest quality art, audio, is a heavy MP game with tons of servers, upkeep costs and such. So if it really scraped the bottom of the barrel in terms of profitability, they can only blame themselves.
