Hmmm, strong opinions then.

I'm still a low level Devastator. But I do wonder about end-game progression. With a game with so many mods it seems like it could be difficult to min/max a build. I'm aware of the crafting system but haven't used it enough or at a high level to see how it'll make it easier to complete a specific build.

I'm having a lot of fun but I think I'm cooling off the looter-shooter genre. Its fun to make builds and see how they perform. But I'm already left asking myself "what's the point of end-game?" There's no Raid or specific loot to be had as far as I'm aware. I think its way to early for me to be contemplating such a question which leads me to think its just that I'm not as interested in this specific type of game as I once was. I think a large part of that is I'm a solo gamer so I'm missing out on the fun of playing with others. But I'll wait until I'm at least in the post campaign before engaging in matchmaking.
Just facts. This game does the loot part far far better.

The point of end game is the same as any other. That is to get the best loot, in this game that is legendaries.

You might struggle with matchmaking being devestator. People want Pyro, Tricksters, and Technomancers because of the higher damage output thanks to the special ammo.

People Can Fly nerfed the Devestator a bit too much.

Please take caution in presenting subjective opinions as facts.

In this case I don’t think it’s a subjective opinion to say that the game does loot better than Destiny or Division. It is a fact or as close to one as it can be when it comes to game design on a loot shooter . It’s been widely commented on across various different game media online that PCF have done it right.

You guys impressions are pushing me to take out the time to give this game a try. A fun rewarding looter shooter done right sounds right up my alley.

I’d highly recommend it if you have time and that kind of interest. Try to play in co-op if you can as the game really shines there. You’ll also need to sink a few hours into it so you’re getting the kind of loot that really starts letting you tailor your character. Level 20 onward if I were to guess is where that starts to happen.

How’s it playing with randoms if no friends are on?

I believe its incredibly flawed thinking to believe that just because there's a growing chorus in agreement of a particular opinion that magically turns that opinion into a fact.

You like the game and its design. So do I and.......Well, I'll leave it at that. Have Fun!!

I’ve only played with randoms about three times so my experience is rather limited. But those times it brought me into the game story that had more or less the same progression as I had in my own game.
Its not possible to grief people in the game either and loot is per character so you don’t have to worry about anything getting stolen.
I did see people saying that it was tricky to find games but I didn’t have a problem when I went to try it.

My opinion that the loot mechanics are the best way that has mechanic has been done are based on many many hours of game play, and not on what other people think.

The fact that my opinion is broadly reflected across those who have played the game pushes the point of view that yes, there is a “fact”, that this game does it better any others who have came before it.

let’s not get hung on on being pedantic here.

Can you play solo?

yep. You can solo the entire thing. Including end game content. I know you like to lower the difficulty in games and you have the option to tweak the game tiers as much as you want to increase or decrease the challenge.

Which class is the best starting out? Or do they all have their advantages/disadvantages and or play styles?

The only one I didn’t like was the Pyromancer. His abilities seemed very meh when compared to the others. That said there is no best class really. The other three classes are all excellent. If I were to recommend one, I’d say Technomancer or Trickster.

I've only played with one class, the Devastator. But right now the meta seems to revolve around the other 3 classes that have access to special ammo that does a lot of damage. Its not that the Devastator is so much weaker but only that it seems to struggle to complete the hardest content in the quickest time. It seems much of the end-game's best rewards revolve around speed runs.

As I'm playing on I'm really liking the Pyromancer. The ability to turn an entire clip into explosive rounds is awesome and so is the marking/interrupting enemies one. Wish I had that slow-mo thing that the trickster has, but pairing a trickster and a pyromancer has been my favorite coop style so far.

The Devastator seems to be a really popular class with those who are soloing the game. I’ve started one as my second character and have him at level 16 now. You’re spot on though, the lack of class bullet damage makes some encounters harder. I’m building a Juggernaut- all kinetic damage from charging and jump slams. Gonna be a fun ass character to play once I start to get him where I want him.

The Devastator is a fun class to use and I love the Gravity Leap, its such a fun skill and can be used as a "I need to get the hell out of here" button. But, I'm starting to get a serious case of fear of missing out (FOMO) because I've been watching so many videos of this game and the other 3 classes seem to be able to clear missions really fast. I have seen posted vids with the Devastator being really efficient in clearing missions too so its definitely possible for the Devo to feel just as powerful. I guess I just want what I don't have.

I do have a Pyromancer at lvl6 from my time with the demo. But I want to get my chunky Devo to lvl30 before I start with any of the other classes. I've yet to get one legendary so I'm hotly anticipating that as I rise in level. I need a beefy shotgun to go along with the close range style of attack the Devo excels at. I think that'll be a real game changer for me with this class.

Y'all cockwagons got me interested. How much worse is it on X1x vs XSX?

What are people's go to for the trickster class? I'm thinking of trying these special bullets and changing out the temporal blade, I have the teleport and teleport back skill as it's just too handy to be able to teleport back.

Twisted rounds. And focus on shotgun skills in the upper tier. Then focus your weapons on critical damage boosters and use mods that don’t consume ammo on critical hits or return ammo based on kills. They teleport into the middle of a group of enemies and f*** them up in style.

have a friend rocking this build and he’s putting out 20 million damage in an Expetition.

Buddy of mine said it was noticeably worse on his Xbox One X (his wife has the Series X) but it's not unplayable or anything.
Cool. I'm playing through FFXII on both the X1x and XSX (cloud saves are the s***) and occasionally detour back to Star Wars squadrons on the XSX when I have access, and started Dishonored on both too, but I mean if I don't have to pay anything else for this I should give it a shot too. 👍

Good post. I just wanted to add some additional info for bullzeye as a Trickster main.

My suggestion is, at least, to have an AR or SMG until you can get consistent replenishment of shotgun rounds. I started with shotguns, but constantly run out of ammo, & switch to SMG/AR & never need to look for ammo in middle of battle.
WIth a huge Clip size of AR/SMG, you barely are off Twister rounds (skill unlock mid level). I have a mod that leech life when using twister round & its good for sustain. The automatic shotgun variants also have a decent clip size(20) but less overall ammo, Tes for yourself which fit you better. Even if you go SHotgun main, Its good to have an AR/SMG as the 2nd weapon in case you run out of shotgun ammo,

I think you should go with the teleport skill (Hunt the prey) & get the mod that 1/2 the cooldown. In the end game, its more about moving pack to pack, than escaping. Have a mod with crowd control like slow in 5m radius on teleport is very helpful for survival.

The keynotes to look for are the one that increases weapon damage when you use a movement skill (Outrider Executioner), & increases weapon damage when you use a deceptive skill (Disruptive Fire). You want them to overlap while the Twisted rounds is on for the juicy 100% weapon damage, meaning you want to prioritize the cooldown nodes in the tree over others.

My skill steup currently are:
Hunt the prey (movement skill)
Venator's Knife (deception skill) It has a far shorter cooldown then the other one I unlocked (SLow trap) allow you to slam constanly to keep up 50% weapon damage
Twister rounds (Most Trickers & their mother-in-law) uses this as main damage.

For stats priority (for my build)
Good->Bonus Firepower , close-range damage & cooldown (Damage is king & most damages come from weapon. Cooldown allows you to keep skill buff up longers)
Okayish->max health, (More Health is always good)
Mediocre->Skill life leech, Anomaly power, Status power (skills are used for Crowd control, movement, keep buff, so the leech & damage is not that important here)

Weapon leech on weapon is great (personal preference)

So People Can Fly are going to be doing big story focused DLC it seems. Such a shame. Endgame should be the focus.

I really like how even blue weapons have useful perks like health regen or slow enemies. Having a blast with it.

I think Devestator is going to be more gear dependant than the other classes. The othe other classes have the special round crutch. While Devestator seeemingly needs a more focused and comprehensive build.

Thanks for the info! The thing with this game there's so many different and viable build options to use, I did my character up a bit and I use the teleport skill and borrowed time, borrowed time gives me 100% armor as well as half shield when I use it with rapid cool down, I went from getting melted in tier 13 to been able to just stand in front of enemies constantly replenishing shields while teleporting around using twisted ammo.

I love experimenting with mods and gear, I had a hard time moving away from my damage skills as they put out a lot of damage with all my anamoly upgrades but I'm having more luck with twisted bullets and constantly teleporting while replenishing my shield and with upgrades that at least double my damage at short range.
