Big Navi is coming soon, end of the year. The RX 5700 XT is a very nice card. Not sure what type of games you're looking to play and at was resolutions/settings or how much money you would want to spend but the 5700 XT is nice if you don't feel like waiting.

I'm happy with mine. I'd want to hold off for big Navi if I was in the market to upgrade, though.

I was looking at that card maybe 2-3 months ago. I'm still on a 1080p monitor right now and honestly still fine playing at that res. I have no interest in next-gen consoles right now so thinking about going primary PC for a while, so most of the newer games coming out I'd get on PC.

All the rumors are pointing to the the RTX 3060 beating the 2080ti in benchmarks. That means that the 5700XT could be well below what is considered mid-range in just a few months. AMD will most likely rebrand it as an RX 660 and sell it for around $200 as the new 1080p ultra standard. Even at that price it's shaky because it lacks the full DX12 Ultimate features. DLSS 2.0 looks like it has become a standard.

Right now a 5700XT can't run Red Dead Redemption 2 at max settings at 1080p without some tweaks.

Unless you are worried about the supply chain because of this pandemic I definitely would wait and see how the GPUs run Cyberpunk 2077.

Is this still true? Will RTX cards be obsolete because AMD uses a different form of ray tracing?

Waiting for see what kind of performance these next gen GPU's bring because if it really piques my interest I am going to sell my 2070 Super and a few other things (I have a TON of computer parts laying around that are still very relevant) to possibly get a 3080. I'm not going to need a 3090/Titan/3080 Ti level card, I play at 1440p/144hz and occasionally 4K.

Yeah....that 3090 $1400 rumored price tag gives me intestinal pain...

There's just no way, I love PC gaming but I am not spending that kind of money on a card that's (ususally) obsolete in the next 2-3 years. The most expensive card I've ever bought was 700 dollars and that was a 780 Ti years ago and I haven't bought one that expensive since. Personally I am more of a xx70 series guy and am more than satisfied.

Bro...I had buyers remorse when I picked up my 2080ti for ~$1100 like a year ago. I still get somewhat annoyed. $1400 is just too much. These things need to start scaling better with the price to justify that amount. Like...for me to even consider that the 3090 needs to be 60-70% more powerful/better RT performance. If not no bueno.

Yeah I'm with yall. I need to wait and see the performance scale. And I'll be honest outside of Flight Sim, nothing I've been running on my PC for the last few months has really called for a 2080ti.

I might forgo the next gen consoles and pick up a RTX 3080. Fear of missing out gets me everytime.

This is also assuming Nvidia doesn't paper launch these things but being Nividia they probably are.

How fast does my SSD have to be to take advantage of this new NVCache?

There is no NVcache, they are using tensor cores to decompress assets from SSDs instead of it being on the CPU and directly from the storage device to the GPU memory. They are calling it RTX IO. Seems like all SSD's should benefit from this but PCI-E 3.0 and 4.0 drives will benefit the most.

Damnit! I need to see benchmarks first. My 2080ti has been amazing for the year and half that I've had it.

However, if the benchmarks blow me away...3090 it is.

Need to see those benchmarks though.

Nvidia touted 3090 as an 8K 60fps card, 3080 as 2x 2080 performance, and 3070 as faster than 2080 Ti.

The pricing on the 3080 and 3070 I hate to say it seem to be very value oriented. That's a lot of horsepower for relatively not a lot of money.

I agree. I can't wait to get my hands on it and overclock that bad boy.

I am loving that price for the 3080. I am jumping in on that WAP.
If I am not layoff (iRL)from my job, I maybe getting a 3080 system, or 3070. My current 970GTX PC is 5 years old & I am not sure its worth just upgrade the graphic card or just the whole PC.

I also wouldn't count out AMD

What is your CPU?

Supposedly AMD will be much more power efficient, but they will only be able to compete with the 3070. There is a rumor that AMD has an answer to DLSS but it's like a checkerboard rendering technique combined with Radeon Image Sharpening running at a "lower level precision". It sounds to me like this is basically just Fidelity FX with better performance because the game can runs at a much lower native resolution do to the low precision hardware.

The image quality should be acceptable for budget gamers looking to play games at 4k. If it's supported in more games than DLSS 2.0 that might be a selling point despite quality not being as good.

My biggest issue with AMD is driver stability at this point. You know that Nvidia will have stable drivers on day one.

i7-4790 @ 3.6 GHz

I think you should be fine at 60fps. Just to put your CPU into perspective it runs neck and neck with a Ryzen 2700 on userbenchmark. The only thing I would be worried about is microstutter or judder because of less threads.

Do you get any kind of microstutter or judder in any of your games now?

Update: I just stumbled upon this video talking about your specific situation.

AMD's GPU supposedly won't be out until 2021 Quarter 1. That's if it doesn't get delayed into the Summer.

Where are you hearing this? They've always stated this year.
