I despise procedurals with a passion (with the exception of a few) so I was hesitant about PoI.. but man oh man was I in for a surprise! This has got to be one of my favorite shows on TV right now. Season 3 stars tonight. This is Jonathan Nolan's baby (Dark Knight). For those of you who've never watched:

It started off as a procedural, but about halfway through season 1, it turned into a complex, serialized procedural with a really interesting ongoing plot (filled with crazy twists).

Anyone else on here watch the show? Sarah Shahi and Amy Acker are now series regulars.

Been rewatching season 2 to get back up to speed with this. Such an awesome show. Glad to see that Shahi and Acker's characters are now regulars too, both were great in the closing episodes of season 2.

Root is nuts and Shaw is a beast! Yea man, they're both great. I hope they don't forget about Carter, I feel like she's been a bit underused. Anyhow, the writers said they have a s***load of events planned for this season, I can't wait.

I've been in love with Amy Acker since the Angel season 2 episode "Over the rainbow". So yeah, I'm stoked that she's going to be on POI this season.

Same here. I actually never finished Angel (only saw the first two seasons).

You should, it really picks up in season 3. Season 4... meh, kind of a dud but season 5 is where the show really shines, where it finally started to come into it's own.

Then it got cancelled. :(

And Amy is AMAZING in season 5, especially the final 3rd of the episodes.

The season opener was good. I'm liking the competitiveness of Shaw. It looks like there are a lot of different story lines going on this season, feels like everyone but Reese and Shaw have something they're hiding.

s***, I need to get on that. Did you ever watch Firefly/Buffy/Dollhouse? I need to get into Grimm too, apparently some of the Angel writers are on that show and it supposedly got really good towards the later half of season 1.

So much TV, so little time.

I'm a Buffy and Angel addict. I honestly watch the shows year round, over and over again. I own all of the BTVS season 8 comics, the Angel "After the Fall" (basically it's Angel season 6) and am just waiting for library editions of Buffy Season 9 and the Angel & Faith comics.
LOVE Firefly. In fact I love it so much that back in Vegas I met a dude that worked for a local radio station, because I talked endlessly about Buffy/Angel/Firefly he got me 5 advanced screening tix for Serenity, so I got to see it a week early. Was SOOOO difficult to not go to forums and talk about that movie (which is, IMO, the best sci-fi film of the last decade). As for Dollhouse, I really liked it. Most people didn't "get" it but I dug it and wished they had been given at least a 3 season run to really flesh out the story.
I've tried to get into Grimm 3 times now and I just can't. It's the male lead, I just don't like the dude for some reason which makes it hard for me to like the character he plays.
I have, however, got into a lot of stuff other BTVS writers have worked on, not the least of which is Warehouse 13 (Jane Espenson).
I dunno, something about Whedon's work really resonates with me. Anything he touches I find myself immediately addicted to. I'm just waiting for Much Ado to come to blu-ray at this point.

Ahhh, wtf, you're like my doppleganger or some s***. I'm a Buffy addict (own all seasons, re-watched endlessly) and love, love, LOVE Firefly. Dollhouse had a lot of potential but it was canceled too soon. Ah, this just made me want to start watching Angel. In a way I'm excited that I'm so behind because it gives me something to look forward to!

Are you watching SHIELD?

What other shows have the BTVS writers worked on?

To this day, I don't know what it was that made Buffy so special. I watch tons of shows with great writing, great cast, interesting mythologies, likeable characters, great storylines and yet.. they lack what Buffy had. What "that" is, I have no clue. BSG, Orphan Black and Veronica Mars are two other shows that had "it."

And as for Grimm, how far did you get? That was the main reason I stopped watching as well (I saw the first 7 eps or so); I hate the protagonist. But everyone has told me that it gets really good towards the end of season 1 and that season 2 is great.

Do you watch Continuum? Lost Girl? Being Human? Supernatural?

Haha, we're such nerds, lol.

Of course I'm watching SHIELD. I'm a Whedon fanboy through and through. While I don't think the pilot was that great I see potential and hope they work it out. At least long enough so it's still on the air when Avengers 2 is finished and Joss can focus on SHIELD (he alluded to such in his EW interview).

Other shows I watch with former BTVS/Angel writers are [Jane Espenson] Warehouse 13, Once Upon a Time (still not sold on this one), Battlestar Galactica, Torchwood, Caprica. Hell, she's been around for a LONG, LONG time having wrote for an episode or two of Deep Space 9 (my personal fav Star Trek. Then there's Fringe (David Fury), Dexter (Drew Greenberg), Grimm (David Greenwalt) but I'm still not sold. I watched the first half of season 1 and just recently the first 3 episodes of season 2.

I think it boils down to the fact that since Buffy (which really ruined a LOT of TV for me) I really only like good, strong female leads in my procedurals. /shrug Hell, I got into Charmed because of the Billie character. Even though she was an obvious play for that type of character (young, blond demon hunter) I still got into it. Tried going back to older seasons but it's too girly for me.

Veronica Mars is really good. I didn't think I'd like it but another Buffy fan swore I would so I gave it a shot. Still need to pick up season 3 and I'm actually planning to go see the movie in theaters, which is something I rarely do.

What I think Buffy had that no other show has come close to capturing is that sense that the characters could be real people. To me it was a super hero show about the life of super heroes and not just the fight with the big bad. Still, it's hard to narrow down. Every time I start to watch the series from the start I tell friends and family "I think I now know why I love this universe so much" and every time it's something new. So really, there's many, many, many reason I love it.

Continuum, yes. Rachel Nichols was smokin hot as Scarlett in G.I. Joe so I gave it a shot and I'm thoroughly hoooked. Lost Girl, I say this often to people: "If you consider Buffy my TV heroin, then Lost Girl is my methadone". Being Human, lost interest. Supernatural, spotty. I watch it here and there but really, really do not like Sam, not at all.

I'm about to watch SHIELD know. Between grad school and work I've been swamped. I hope it's good. Good to see that the ratings for the show were phenomenal.

How's Warehouse 13? I've never watched it. Didn't it just end/or it's ending soon?

Once Upon a Time.. meh. I got up to like episode 13 of season 2.. I feel the same way you felt about Charmed; it's too girly for me. Well, maybe not girly, but.. it's too, disney-ish. It's like Lost's little girl cousin or some thing, but nowhere as interesting, which isn't saying much. I'll probably catch up one of these days.

BSG is one of my favorite shows ever, along with Veronica Mars. Hands down. And Fringe, and I say Fringe and I'm only on season 3.

I've yet to watch Dr. Who/Torchwood/Caprica.

Have you watched Orphan Black yet? It's MUST WATCH TV.

I'm going to give Grimm another shot myself. We'll see how that goes.

Dexter.. I'm like two eps away from the series finale. I can't believe that what started off as a superb show has turned into this disaster. SMH. I prefer Luther >>>>>

Have you watched some of the other Star Trek series? I want to get into the TV shows but there's a s***load of them and I don't know where to start and what to avoid.

I agree with Supernatural being spotty. I cringe whenever people try to claim that it's Buffy's successor. *_* Or TVD. Yea, I want some of that crack they're smoking, lol.

Thoughts on Hannibal, Nikita, The Walking Dead, Elementary, Revolution, Bates Motel, Falling Skies? Defiance?

And yeah, Continuum is great man. I love the writing on the show. A bit confusing at times, and the season 2 finale left me a bit clueless, but I love what they're doing with it. I've yet to watch Lost Girl but my best friend who also loves Buffy claims that Lost Girl is the closest thing we'll ever get in terms of "successor." I need to watch it. I'm a sucker for kick ass females.

I've yet to watch Being Human.

And yes, Buffy and Veronica Mars >>>>>>>>

And I agree with what makes Buffy special. Every time I rewatch the show I fall in love with it all over again. Ahh. Favorite season? Character?

Lol, we just hijacked this thread and literally covered Scifi TV 101 lmfaoooo.

Oh, I absolutely LOVE Warehouse 13. I was hooked even before they added the extremely cute, super intelligent red head (Claudia, played by Allison Scagliotti). It's ending with the next season (5) and IIRC it's only a 6 episode arc. The best part of the series recently? Anthony Stewart Head plays a bad guy. Also, James Marsters has a big role in that same season.

Can't get into Dr. Who, maybe it's too British for me.

Pretty much all Star Trek is good, even Enterprise (the worst by far) has it's moments. IMO I'd go DS9 > Voyager >TNG > TOS > Enterprise.

Haven't seen Hannibal, about halfway through season 1 of Nikita, LOVE The Walking Dead, haven't seen elementary, Revolution is really fun, haven't seen Bate's, Falling Skies meh (again, the main protagonist annoys me). I really thought I'd like Defiance as I adore Julie Benz for her work as Darla and Dexter's wife but I just couldn't get into it. Perhaps when it comes to Netflix and I can watch the entire first season over a couple days I'll get into it.

Buffy favorite season, believe it or not, is 6. Most people hate it but it's the season that really sticks with me for some reason.
Favorite episode though? It's a toss up between Hush, The body and Once More with Feeling.

Yeah, we did kind of hijack the thread. Perhaps I should stop being lazy and start a sci-fi/fantasy 101 thread. /shrug

Perfect, I'll add Warehouse 13 to my list. Sounds great. Star Trek as well.

Hannibal is really good, as is Bates. I just finished season one of Nikita. Elementary sucks (imo) and Falling Skies is subpar but I love anything with aliens so I'm sticking with it. Defiance was a huge, huge disappointment, I didn't like the first season at all, it was a bore and severely underdeveloped. Meh. I don't think I'll be watching season 2 but we'll see, I love Julie Benz.

Wow, season 6? That was such a sad, sad season. Very good individual episodes. I liked it, but my favorite was season 3. I love Faith. My fav episode would probably be Hush or The Body, I can never decide. Ah, I dare some of today's genre shows to try and match the superb quality of those episodes! ;)

What would you say are your top five fav shows on the air now? Top five favorite genre/cult shows of all time?

Lol, back to Person of Interest! Those last few minutes.. where Root was talking about "the truth".. were priceless. She is so f***in' bad ass without even trying. Ahh! I think, and this might be a bit premature, but I think that Shaw and Root have the potential to become notable strong female leads in the long run. We shall see! This season looks like it's going to kick things up 390293023 notches.

Most everyone hates Season 6 but with episodes like OMWF, Life Serial, Tabula Rasa it's great. I also really like how dark it is, it reflects how my life was going when the season was first aired. Let's just say, not good. So I kind of relate to that part of Buffys life.

But ultimately I can see that Season 3 is THE season if you want to get someone into the show, it really was the best season overall for many reasons. Dopplegangland not the least of those reasons. :)

By "on the air now" I assume you don't mean at this moment as Warehouse 13 and Lost Girl are not slated to return until 2014 (and it's f***in KILLING ME!). Those two are my top two ATM with LG being #1 only slightly. I watch so much TV it's hard to pick 3 others but I'd definitely put Haven on that list (it really grew on me) with Revolution, SHIELD, POI and Sleepy Hollow all vying for the last two slots.

I really, REALLY, REEEEAAAALLLLLYYY hope that Root sticks around for a while. I'd love to see her do the whole "Was crazy killer type but I'm all better now and just want to help" road to retribution thing. I love Amy Acker as an actress and feel she has real presence.

She was great in Dollhouse, I really felt for her character. She was great on Angel in seasons 2-4 and AMAZING in Season 5. If you really want a sense of the presence she can project I strongly urge you (if you haven't yet) to watch season 5 and pay close attention to her character starting with "A Hole in the World".

I honestly can't wait for Much Ado to come out on blu-ray just so I can see her and Alexis Denisof (another actor I'll watch no matter what he's doing, in fact H+ was pretty good for a web series) interact with each other again.

P.S. another show I think everyone that likes sci-fi should watch, Eureka. It's light hearted, good natured fun that doesn't take itself too seriously but does have some serious tones to it. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

Yup, she was. I watched Much Ado About Nothing Tuesday and she was brilliant in that as well. I really don't understand why she doesn't get more big roles, perhaps it's her choice? /shrug

Yep. The show has had some of it's very best episodes in the past few weeks. It's going to be interesting to see how the show evolves from what happened. It's good to know the writers aren't afraid to spice things up.

Wow, that Carter episode was just..:bow::bow::bow::bow::bow::bow:

I knew from the very first promo for that episode just exactly how it was going to go down. It just made sense to me that it would go that way.

As for this most recent episode, the opening was amazing. I don't think they could have picked a better song than The Man in Black doing NiN's "Hurt"

Like the show alot. They keep it fresh and worth tuning into.

Holy sh!t last nights episode was outstanding! Things are really building and I cannot wait to see how they progress.

As always Amy Acker was amazing. She's pretty, sexy and scary all at the same time and I'm so happy for her that she's landed this role as she's perfect for it.
