Persona 5: The Royal announced with mysterious teaser

The next Persona game is called Persona 5: The Royal. It’s coming to PlayStation 4 and will be a role-playing game. But beyond that, the new animated teaser for the successor to Persona 5 doesn’t offer much detail.

Atlus released the first teaser for Persona 5: The Royal after it aired an animation special based on Persona 5, named Stars and Ours. The 45-second commercial for Persona 5: The Royal shows a new character standing in the rain at Shibuya Crossing, being asked what she thinks of the Phantom Thieves. According to a translation from Gematsu, the woman says she doesn’t think the group will ultimately help the world. “In the end, I feel like you can only solve that yourself,” she says. It’s not clear whether that makes her antagonistic to the Phantom Thieves or whether she’ll work in parallel with them.

The teaser — first promised in January — ends with the promise of more information to come on April 24. Atlus will hold a two-day concert event in Tokyo called Persona Super Live from April 24-25.'

I have 5 but haven't played it yet. Haven't played any of the games but looked like it was time to jump in. Should probably get to it sometime.

Not terribly interested in this but like that MS is making some effort with JP developers/publishers if just for optics alone. Not sure if Sony had a deal with Sega/Atlus on this but MS do need to be more aggressive with this stuff...the original game was launched in 2016 and the Royal edition over a year ago. Seems Phil is content to get the left-overs instead of the main course. Regardless of Capcom's resurgence in recent years, I still think the JP dev market is pretty blah overall but again, optics. If MS wants to make inroads, they need to do some trail blazing. The beginning of the 360 era was great in this regard but the last 4-5 years were awash in Kinect and the 4 pillar franchises and we all know how the first part of the XBO era was (granted, it was more optics and FUD than reality).

A case of:
  • Japan doesn't want Xbox because Xbox doesn't have Japanese games
  • Japanese developers don't want to make games for Xbox because Japan has no Xbox consoles
  • Japan is pretty much done with consoles. PS5 (and PS4) tanked hard there. Switch is now pretty much 100% the dominate force there
  • Probably isn't enough gamers in the west that want Japanese games
