PlayStation 4 software 1.5 update detailed

I don't get why this is a big deal. It's a day one patch. So? We get day 1 patches all the time. I don't get the outrage.

Seems like people are getting bent out of shape over the smallest bits of news.

We must be on the verge of a console launch of something.

When people have an agenda to push, they'll take any opportunity to do so. Sometimes it's those honks that make me really appreciate the vast majority of posters who aren't unofficial mouthpieces for an agenda.

Unless it bricks the system or something, I see this as much ado about nothing ... or about very little, anyhow.

People are freaking out, maaan, they're freaking out.

Yes, there is a lot of backlash right now. Not sure why? It made no sense when the Wii U had its update. Made no sense when the XBOX ONE announced its update. Makes no sense now. As I said on another forum, people are crying about an internet update over the internet, meaning they obviously have the internet so why are they crying, LOL! Yeesh!

I guess it's just part of the build-up to a launch. I wish people would just take a breath and wait and see what happens, rather than imagining all kinds of awful tragedies about to unfold, assuming nefarious conspiracies, predicting failures, accusing "Lies, it's all lies!" and just generally freaking out ... but I guess that's not going to happen. Gamers will be gamers, and this is the start of a new console generation.

It's gonna be a bumpy November.

It's not a big deal at all. Just kind of humorous after the backlash Microsoft got. I mean no Blu ray playback without a connection? I didn't see that coming.

The point is though that it's never been a big deal. Not in May and not now.

I agree with someone who said the BD playback would be a licensing issue. I've read about some standalone players needing an internet connection (over ethernet or wi fi) for initial setup. Of course it's optional when playing movies. But players recommend having an always on internet connection to access the extra BD movie features.

I agree with Intellivision that both consoles suck for this lame internet connection requirement just to use your video game console.
.

I disagree. By now there is no excuse to not have a Internet in your home in some form or fashion. Peeps gotta changed with the times.

You missed the deleted posts by Intelli where I was reverse trolling him for posting his routine trash about the PS4...

Is it wrong to feel like this isnt a big deal.......and people without internet can jump off a cliff.

Dont hate me

Yeah screw those guys in the military and anyone that lives in a rural area that doesn't have a good internet connection because no provider affords them one. Might as well throw a screw the poor in there for good measure too while you are at it.

That said everything on a console gets updates: games, os's, apps and should now be considered part and parcel of the industry.

lol, the poor, priorities my friend. Food clothing and shelter over gaming and skinernet. And as rural areas satellite and cell tethering. And military, since they invented it, I'm sure it's available on most bases.

We're in a similar boat. You need the day one update on X1 too.

That said, the difference is we were honest about that, and everyone's known for months that would be the case... Sony's doing their typical over promise (or stay quiet and let consumers BELIEVE something which isn't true), and under deliver.

Surprise! Not everything will be perfect with the PS4!

Except you don't need to download the patch to use the system. Most of the stuff here is online components or trivial. Obviously if you have internet this is not an issue where as with Xbone the thing is a brick without the update. I think that is what had people up in arms. That said, I never personally had a problem with any of it. Hell, my Wii U had a long ass day one update yet I hear no one bitching about that. This is nothing more than fuel for the fanboy fires.

The big news is that suspend is not included, even with the patch. That's a big deal on an important feature that X1 will have in Day One.

So I need to download a patch to get my functionality? It smells like a rushed launch much like the Nintendo Wii U. It's pretty sad when you need an update just to play a Blu-Ray because the software wasn't shipped the console. Why not just include a software update disc with every box if that's the case. If you ask me, this is Sony's way of forcing your console to be connected online without actually forcing you. It's an unpleasant twist.

Yes and No. You shouldn't need the patch to play games, but basically all the other features you do. Sony dropped the ball on not having all of the other offline features on the system already. I will add you could get PS3 patches with a flashdrive, so perhaps that will happen again this generation.

The separate disc in the box would be a good idea as well.

The only feature I really care about in that update is the remote play using a Vita. I hope at the very least they allow update to be installed via USB flash drives. But, with the restrictions in place updating the Vita I'm not gonna hold my breath.

You don't have the internet?

It's 5mbps satellite and unreliable... If I can download the update using a PC and a program to resume interrupted downloads, then it's not a concern. Otherwise, I don't download and install firmware updates for anything unless it's on a disc.

You are worrying for no reason, though I could see why. Updates are downloaded first and then installed, so an interruption to the download has zero chance of causing any issues.

Don't get me wrong...I don't think it's a big deal and could care less what people without internet get....they get what they diserve is my personaly opinion but don't sugar cote it.

fyi...I have about 100 times more faith in xboxlive not failing at launch than the psn network with all those downloads day one.

Not sure what a sugar cote is, but there's quite a few people in the military who are probably buying a PS4 who aren't able to update their consoles for a few of the basic features the console was supposed to ship with out of the box.
