PlayStation 5 spec leak..?

Moving forward I don't think there will be a noticeable power advantage. Not enough to have a fan of 1 system jump ship from there friend's list. Any power difference can be spun away anyway. Say if the Scarlett/nextbox is a tad more powerful than ps5 it can be negated by marketing pushing games and a lower price point. If MS decides nextX at a higher price with less performance again with a kinect nobody needs and wants, we know what will happen.
I think it will be closer than X vs Pro and will come down to games and services.

If Sony is arrogant enough to release much weaker specs...it will hurt PS5 if MS does the opposite at a competitive price.

More Q4 2019 PS5 release date signs?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.th...date-sony-xbox-two-launch-2019-christmas/amp/

Death Stranding, The Last of Us II, and Ghost of Tsushima as launch or launch window games...those are good enough to have a successful launch.

As cool as that may seem to release so early, I kinda feels it’s kinda disappointing for first party devs to only get two games now to showcase their talents. Had there been no mid cycle power boost in each respected platform it would have been ok with just two but seeing there’s more power on tap I feel we won’t get to see the true capabilities of those boosted console.

I would be all for a 2019 launch, with mid gen refreshes being a thing now there is no reason to hold off IMO. Cross gen games patched will help deepen the launch line up and then the stuff that's really built from the ground up will start coming for the 2nd holiday.

As long as the specs are there as the Pro aint cutting it anymore and i want a bigger jump...if not 2020.

I doubt we'll get much more of a jump by waiting a year, once we start hitting 10TF it's going to take more than 1.8TF to make a noticeable difference. The saving grace for the Pro is Sony 1st party, their stuff still looks better than MS 1st party stuff running at a higher resolution IMO.

I wonder if MS and Sony have kind of hurt themselves for next gen by pushing 4K as a thing with these refresh consoles that really were only meant to increase the resolution of games that were originally intended to run on 1.3TF and 1.8TF machines. If they really want to push the graphics next gen do you think they'll go for "faux K" with all of the bells and whistles of force native 4K which will still look better than what we have now but not really take advantage of the hardware as much as it otherwise could have?

I'm hoping for at least 2020, personally. I want a good boost. Now, a modern CPU would go a long way, but I'd like to see at least (2020) mid-tier PC results. Wishful thinking, probably, but you never know. I'd also be fine with a 600 dollar console, but that won't fly for market penetration reasons.

I am no longer impressed by the Pro.
When the CPU issue is addressed we will see big gains.

The funny thing is is that now with 4K being the de facto target for next gen the GPU and not the CPU will be the limiting factor.
As you go up in resolution the importance shifts to being GPU bound. Watch both Microsoft and Sony use this as justification for gimping the CPUs yet again.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

I think The Last of Us part 2 will impress. Naughty Dog knows what they're doing. Not sure what people expected from the Pro though, it still has the best looking exclusives in Horizon and God of War and it's not even the most powerful console.

PS5 will be a beast. Make no mistake about it. Sony isn't going to lay down and take another beating. The base PS4 is really the only time they've undoubtedly had the most powerful console. PS3 was more powerful than 360 but hard to develop for leading to multiplats usually running better on 360. Those days are over.

Saw a post from Matt on resetera who used to work for a 3rd party dev saying that the plan for the PS5 was 2019 but that things can and do change so we'll see, seems like as far as he knows 2019 is pretty likely.

That thread is a hoot. Reads like NASA's Mission Control Center during the moon landing.

There's been a few juicy posts up in the Era thread over the past 48 hours that I'll post here. All of which are by a member named Benji who appears to have insider knowledge regarding the launch of the PS5.

Benji

"Yeah since I didnt edit in time and posted when I really shouldn't have I'm here now so might as well respond

This was all I was saying. I'm not going to sit here and claim I know all the plans behind the PS5 initiative, because well I dont. But I am familiar with a few things and while I have contacts in the industry I dont have near the range someone like Jason does. So basically, if in nearly October Jason still doesn't know much of anything around it (which by now I'm willing to bet he does) then its more just his contacts specifically not sharing that information with him I'm assuming. Because word is floating around now. I'm assuming you will start seeing some pretty big rumors not a short time from now.

I mean, there is already a non small amount of next gen titles well into development."

Benji

"Pulling the trigger when you are a reputable website is a scary thing. You gotta make damn sure your contacts are totally lined up and no one is bull s***ting you or plans have changed. You can have a proven contact somewhere that either lies to you purposely or misleads you accidentally for various reasons.

I'm not a website or someone that makes a living sharing what I know. I dont even share 5-10% of the things I hear within the industry. I slipped up today and oh well it's out there now."

Next Generation Console officially acknowleged by Sony in Financial Times. Everything points to a 2019 release.

Sounds like they were talking 2-3 years from now but i still stand by 2020. The PS5 could realistically release next year though. Fun times ahead.

I'm all for 2019, there is no technical leap that's going to be made between that and 2020 to make a wait worth it, prices won't change much in a year either.

Yup. Everything is showing 2020. Prolly for a bigger leap in tech.

The last post by Benjii said that he's hearing conflicting reports about 2019 vs 2020 and that he's going to go kick some tires this week and will report back with what he finds.

I still think 2019 is a possibility for Sony most likely.

If I had to guess right now though, I'd say PS5 in Q1 2020, with Scarlett in Q4 2020.

Sony knows Microsoft is going to make Halo Infinite a big deal. I think they want to avoid that and capitalize on The Last of Us II, Ghosts of Tsushima, and/or Death Stranding before Microsoft gets the hype train rolling.

The PS5 will release next year if their first party devs are ready. Only Japan Studio and Guerrilla might be ready and that is because Japan studio have been working on building tech since 2016 and Guerrilla are growing and efficient as hell. I think TLOU 2, Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding will be cross-gen but they definitely have all their studios now working on PS5 games. Heck Naughty Dog is rumoured to be working on a separate project along with TLOU. But as Benji has alluded to everything has come together to launch in 2019.

Japan Studio seems to have a “we’re ready when we’re ready” mentality. Whilst Gurrilla has always been pretty efficient, only now they have been freed from their shackles that was Killzone. You could say that killed their zone :p

I got a feeling a lot of this gens last first party games are gonna be launch titles as well

Japan studio will be different beast next gen. This gen has been about acclimatising but since 2016 they have been building up their technology and staff, the games they will have coming next gen will be a farcry from the likes of Knack; just you wait. Guerrilla has two projects in the works, one is Horizon 2 but another seems to be a online shooter of some sorts after hiring some key people from rainbox six siege team.

Bloodborne and Demons Souls two of my all time favorites...
They can take long as they want.

Plus they got that PSVR game coming.

Bloodborne and Demon Souls were practically all Fromsoft with Japan studio overseeing the technical aspects. The next titles from Japan studio will be all internal developed games and will hopefully be far more ambitious than Knack, TLG and GR2.
