Street Figher Alpha is my most fond memory of PlayStation. When I was able to play what, at the time, looked like an arcade perfect port of Street Fighter Alpha, I was in heaven. It set the stage for everything to come.

I remember buying like 4 playstations and the last one I had to turned it upside down for it to read the disc because I just bought at the time MGS.

Army Men was awesome as well.

Games on the PS1 like Crash Bandicoot were what first drew me into console gaming, back in 1999. I played them with my stepdaughter.

Then one day, I was in Walmart, and I decided to buy a PS1 for myself ("Only $99, why not?"). I wanted to see what was on offer besides the kiddie stuff.

I really enjoyed Syphon Filter. Gabe Logan with his awkward stride, like he had a full diaper. It was a blast, though, because it was the first time I had played a console shooter.

Not long after that, I became aware of this thing called the Xbox, which was about a year from being released. A few months later, I found TXB (MSXbox), and I've been an Xboy ever since. Without the PS1, I wouldn't be here.

Warhawk, Twisted Metal, Desruction Derby, Crash Bandicoot, Soul Reaver, Kings Field.

Some of my OG Playstation highlights.

That was good video. You made that or someone else? I liked it. :) PS3 was my first Sony system to buy and own. Never got the chance to own PS1/2 (I was a fan of Sega systems at that time, though). It's good to catch up a lot of PS1/2 games classic that can be found in PSN Store on PS3. Sony did good job of doing that. Two thumbs up!

Awesome video. I never owned the PS1 or 2 (had a N64 and Xbox) and I first bought PS3 2 years ago after it's price drop mostly to be used as a 3d Blu Ray, but I really grew to like some of Sonys 1st party titles, especially Uncharted, Killzone, and Last of Us and I'm looking forward to both launches.

I don't have much history with the PS3 but I'd say my favorite experience was playing The Last of Us.

lol I remember renting Army Men. Yes it was a lot of fun.

My first experience with the PS1 was by sneaking into my brother's room while he was gone to play Gran Turismo. I finally got my own console to enjoy the series myself. Syphon Filter, Tekken, Twisted Metal, Spyro, Tenchu, Driver, Tomb Raider, etc. Pretty much my childhood right there.

I can't remember the name of the game, but it was in the fighting genre. Had a old man who could blow farts and damage folk with it. Damn fine gameplay right there. Bushido Blade is still the finest melee weapon fighting game I've ever played and Crazy Ivan was fun FPS times back in the day. Crash Bandicoot was amazing as well. My brother, cousin, and I would spend the entire day and more just trying to beat it. The amount of times we had to restart the game from the beginning drove us to frustration.

First time I had a real chance to play a Playstation was when my Mom and Dad rented one for me from Blockbuster along with a few games. Among them, Battle Arena Toshinden! Which I thought, at the time, was the greatest fighting game that would ever grace the Earth.

Ended up getting a PS of my own for my birthday that year.

Hercules
Rogue Trip
Tenchu :Stealth assassins
Driver
Castlevania
Colony wars vengeance
Broken sword II
Road rash
etc.

...oh, and pirating games :p

Hearing those familiar sounds at the beginning of that video brought me a huuuge smile.

I absolutely refuse to let go of ps1's games and I crave nostalgia on a weekly basis, so I'm always playing an old ps1/ps2 game. Currently running through Spyro, which was my favorite Ps1 game as a kid, and despite the blocky graphics I am having just as much fun as I did when I first played it!

Gran Turismo reminds me of my dad staying up ALL night completing those 100+ lap races, it was the only game he could dominate my brother and I at! He would get so pissed off at my brother and I when we played Tekken and "wouldn't let him get up."

Parasite Eve was the first "Big Kid" game ever I played, with the help of GameShark! That game use to scare the crap out of me! I couldn't play it without having major anxiety, which is why I had the GameShark, unlimited ammo and health, oh yeah.

I remember going Fry's every time I'd visit my dad and we would pick out a handful of games we didn't have yet.. nothing compared to the smell of a freshly opened booklet.. the way the disc feels when you first remove it from the case.. playstation defined my childhood.

Lately I've been DYING to play Frogger. That game caused a lot of anger at times.

Crash Bandicoot, MGS, Syphon Filter, Silent Hill, Legend of Legaia, Legend Of Dragoon, Suikoden II, Thousand Arms, Twisted Metal, Harvest Moon Back To Nature, Castlevania Symphony of the night, Megaman Legends 1 and 2, The Misadventures ofTron Bonne, Driver, Gran Turismo, Army Men Sarges Heroes, Army Men Air Attack, Toy Story 2, Nightmare Creatures

Mine was definitely renting FFVII the same weekend as the Florida-Georgia football game. I was working a lot of crazy hours at the time, but I was leaving work at noon on that Saturday (and it was the day after Halloween, so there was a metric crapload of candy on sale). I ate probably a bag and a half of the little Reeses Cups while being thoroughly disgusted by Florida's effort in the game, and then after tht proceeding to blow through FFVII in approximately two and a half days time.

I came into the back door of PlayStation, having found nothing like Ocarina of Time to play on the N64. Then, bam! A whole library of JRPGs was opened up to me, and for a time, life was good. They're all a blur, now, shoved behind me, long ago and far away. ChronoCross FF 7,8,9, Legend of the Dragoons, on to other genres. SyphonFilter, Parasite Eve, Rainbow Six, Colony Wars, Mech Warrior. PlayStation had the world to itself, then, and EVERYTHING was there. It was the dawn of modern gaming, and I get dewy eyed and misty thinking about it, now, how--after dealing with a personal tragedy--it kept me from the foggy foggy dew.

  • Playing my roomate in RETURN FIRE, until he quit in utter defeat. That classical music soundtrack.
  • First time ever playing a game that wasn't split screen - DOOM system link. A whole new world of "omg, I can't see my enemy".
  • Most annoying - learning every branching move of the character Nina in TEKKEN, using a fighting stick no less, and having my friend who was clueless about videogames absolutely stomp me again & again with the character Jack, by mashing a single button on his controller.
  • Throwing my tv remote at the wall and breaking it, in a fit of childish rage over the kiddie game I bought to enjoy a simple, casual time with: RAYMAN.

Didn't have a gaming PC, but really liked many of the PC ports that came to PS1:
Command & Conquer, Xcom:UFO Defense, Civilization, Diablo, Dark Forces, Diskworld, DOOMs,

Would buy my games at Toys R Us, grabbing that one of those white item tickets, paying for it at the register, then getting my game from "the cage".

Read NextGen magazine back then, cover-t0-cover. Here's issue #3 featuring the PlayStation:

First memory was playing Resident Evil 2 for hours at Media Play before breaking down and buying a PS1. Then it was Syphon Filter, MGS, and Silent Hill. Fun times.

I shall talk about my PS memories.

My aunt is currently barely making ends meet. She used to have a wonderful life before identity theft ruined it. But when she was making a decent living, I didn't even know I liked video games. For christmas, I didn't ask from anything in particular from her. We are in Tennessee visiting her, and I open up the present she got me (can't remember what year it was. I was young. I'm not sure if the gift was new or not) and sure enough it's a psone (WITH A FREAKING AWESOME DEMO DISC).

So I begin playing the demo disk and fall in love with gaming for the first time. I had to rush to get more games (Crash bandicoot, jet moto, and even the cursed bubsy 3d). My completion of these games was impressive. Each game I owned at this time got beaten (a stat I cannot match today). The psone is the reason me and my father got heavily into hockey. I can't exactly remember which hockey game we purchased first, but my father and I fell in love with the sport and ended up getting season tickets for our local team while becoming heavily involved in finding NHL games on tv.

The year the ps2 came out, I knew what I wanted. I asked for the ps2, although I can't remember what games I wanted (I'm sure an NHL game). However, my parents also got me SSX, a game which I played the crap out of.

I'm not going to go into the rest of my gaming / playstation history, but it's amazing that in summary, the psone is the reason:

I am now a gamer.
I am now a huge hockey fan.

Crazy. Thanks Aunt Lauri.

Yep. BAT, Ridge Racer, Philosoma, Wipeout, Warhawk, and so on. Early PSX days were pretty mind-blowing for me.

Ah yea SSX, Ridge Racer, and Jet Moto were awesome. For the hockey brothers... I remember NHL FaceOff series from 989 Sports. Looking at the art I know for sure I had 2000... probably still do somewhere.

Another fond memory.....

Making me feel old here! I used to go to SEARS and play the demo kiosk for the PS (Saturn sat next to it and the Virtualboy next to that), it was the only game that got any play and damn did it get a lot. I spent hours there everyday jamming that demo.

Did Daniel know that Sony was spying on him all those years?? Lol

Fond memories when I watched that ad, I still have the first game I bought along with my PS1 and that was Tekken 1. Was never into Riiidddgggeeeee Rrraaacccceeeerrrr.

Some of my fondest memories were owning the N64/Saturn/PSone combo, all at once, wow. That era had so much creativity and ideas, the dawn of 3D gaming. My favorite PSone memory that jumps out to me was that one day I just splurged and bought both TombRaider II and Nightmare Creatures when i already had my slate filled with games. Spent many a night playing the games with a friend, he'd sleep.I'd wake up and take over where he left off. Then vise versa. Both games were tough as nails for us so cooping was the thing to do to play the games. That was 1998 i believe? Not sure but great times with the PSOne.

I think what I remember the most from my PS1 days is Tekken 2 . Had to be my most played ps1 game i still remember the opening to this day. I was also scared of Blood Omen as a kid (rated M for a reason ) . Other than that Battle Arena Toshinden , EA Sports games , NBA Jam , Samurai Showdown along with other come to mind .

Ps2/3 are recent memories not so much nostalgic one .
