Official Thread Playstation VR

Anyone playing Ace Combat in VR? It's up there with the best of the best VR games. It's really short, but has alot of replayability.

I played a bunch of Firewall Zero Hour the past couple of days due to the free trial.

I found it pretty disappointing.

The VR aspect was definitely interesting but far from flawless. The wires, movement, and camera/play area all had issues for me.

The game design was simple AF though. I had flashbacks to my days playing Rainbow Six on the original XBox twenty years ago. Meh.

I'll be interested to see what Sony learns from this in a future game on the PSVR2. I most likely won't be picking this up though.

Using the AIM controller right? I heard the game is absolutely terrible with ds4.

No...but there have been more developments since my last post.

I went to boot up the game on, what I thought was the last day of the trial, and got hit with TRIAL ENDED screen.

Then I saw it was on sale for half off and bought it. I'll pick up an AIM controller eventually but I do think there are some pretty massive flaws with the game. Namely, you don't play it as much as you're actually playing it. Why it doesn't have a best of 3 system baffles me. Shooting everyone back to the lobby after every match (then to wait 60 seconds for the next round to start) is crazy.

I think the developer has talent. I'd like to see what they do in the future but damn...some really glaring design issues on this one.

I just got the Wipeout collection. Nice. It's cool how VR can give an old game new life.

I'm actually better at this game in VR. Leaning into turns like a racing beast. Lol

That game is crazy, feels like an amusement park ride in VR.

Ok, that's 5% of PS4 owners.

Not bad considering it hasn't been out half the timeframe PS4 has. If it had been there launch day you might assume 10-12%, which is really good considering the cost of entry, especially in the beginning.

There are a slew of gameplay previews out in the last couple of days for Blood and Truth, No Man's Sky VR, and Iron Man VR. Very positive impressions pretty much across the board with some hyperbolic sounding descriptions here and there about how good these games are. We'll see.

I'd think the current games will look pretty damn good with ps5 and psvr1. Supersampling is a godsend for VR and most games don't even max out the current headsets resolution on top of that. I expect a big image quality upgrade, especially for games that get patches.

What do you think about those leaked specs on the PS5 thread regarding a wireless headset? Do you think it’s possible? I’d love for it to be true but I’d settle for a higher resolution and revised motion controllers/ tracking if not.

Oh, the new headset will be a massive upgrade, but it'll probably be a 2022+ launch. Wireless is possible, but I don't think it will happen, it'll be more convenient though. I think they're going full steam ahead with tech, wireless makes that more difficult.
PSVR2, expect a big increase to FOV, huge resolution, and tracking upgrade. But the biggest thing imo--rendering saving technologies.
This will allow the PS5 to save on taxing visuals by only rendering what we can see at a given time. So, not only will we get the boost of magnitudes more powerful hardware, it'll be less taxed. Imo, this will allow big budget Sony exclusives in VR, and they'll look as good or better in the headset than a TV because of the tech. The difference is Sony can't tell where players are looking on a TV, they forced to render 100% of the screen to max settings....but in their headset, they don't have to, they know exactly where your pupils are focused and that's all they have to render at max settings. This is what people don't understand about VR tech going forward, we'll have the advantage of better looking and more immersion because of this, or if TVs get eye tracking somehow lol.

Yeah foveated rendereing will be a huge game changer for VR. I’m confident SONY can make it happen.
I think allowing the current PSVR to be compatible with the PS5 allows them to take their time with the next headset but still make VR games on PS5 with quite a big VR user base.
I’m really glad they’re continuing to push VR as MS seem to have gone cold on it which is a pity.
