Official Thread Playstation VR

Yeah foveated rendereing will be a huge game changer for VR. I’m confident SONY can make it happen.
I think allowing the current PSVR to be compatible with the PS5 allows them to take their time with the next headset but still make VR games on PS5 with quite a big VR user base.
I’m really glad they’re continuing to push VR as MS seem to have gone cold on it which is a pity.

Yeah, I wish MS would too, but I don't think they're in the position Sony is and they don't even have many exclusives on their console, so VR exclusives would be super unlikely.

Sony hinted multiple times that a PlayStation VR 2 headset may be coming together with the PlayStation 5, and it seems like it may come in multiple models.

Speaking at Collision 2019 in Toronto, as reported by Venture Beat, PlayStation ‘s Dominic Mallinson hinted that there could be multiple PlayStation VR 2 models, with wireless connectivity being one of the differences.

I talked about wireless, for example. That’s one easy way to do it. Here’s a wired headset. You can take the wire and replace it with wireless. And then you can have a range. So you can have an introductory model and a high-end model. That’s something we’ve done with PlayStation 4. We could do that with PSVR.
Mallinson also talked about gaze tracking, and how it could be a game changer for VR. He, however, didn’t talk about implementation for future PlayStation VR models.

If you read the original article (which is a positive piece on the future of VR, btw), he's clearly talking speculatively and frames it as a possible option. So it's not really a "hint," it's just something he's talking speculatively about. At least that's how I hear it. Still, that would be cool, if they had different versions of the PSVR 2, one a wired and the other wireless. Maybe the wireless version would come out a couple years later...

I hope Blood and Truth does well. PSVR could use another really solid game in the catalog.

Played a couple hours on blood and truth now and one of the best VR experiences I have had to date. Only downside I am used to oculus quest now and visuals are sharper on the quest plus being wireless makes it much more fun and immersive to play.
Saying that, blood and truth is fantastic and some of it is kinda like a first person VR version of uncharted with some awesome set pieces in slow motion.
This would be amazing on the oculus quest. Hope we get something similar later down the line.

I saw this and was put off by it. Shooting mechanics look pretty wonky. He attributes a lot of the problems down to the current version of the PSVR. He does end up saying it's a good game, and he had fun with it, although it has plenty of technical issues.

Sounds like other reviews are coming in more positive, so ymmv.

p.s. He says in the video it's $60, but I think it's $40 in the US. Maybe the $60 price tag (I think he's Australian) was part of why he wasn't all that happy with it. $60 is a lot for a 5 hr. game.

There's a big reason most reviews are more positive than this. It helps to see playing it. The first huge problem I see is he's playing in a room with lots of artificial lighting, not only that those look like conflicting light sources behind him. Computer screen is a no no. So doubly bad. Right off the bat, he knows very little about PSVR. Those two combined are begging for tracking issues. You can't expect PSVR to be perfect, but he's really going out of his way there to make it much worse.

The other issue is it's not $60, its $40 brand new. I got for $33 at Walmart new.

Yeah the best of both worlds would be great. The problem with the Quest is it can't run more advanced looking games with AAA visuals, that's why it's sharper. Simple games it works fine.

IDD but after seeing Vader I am sure it would run blood and truth, just need to have episodes as the game is 30gb+

It would run Blood and Truth, but it would be heavily downgraded. The Quest isn't even close to base PS4 in terms of hardware power. The Quest is incredible but alot of what they're doing is tricks to keep you static so they can focus their horsepower on that specific scene and dial up the graphics. You won't see big open world games etc

Yeah, maybe he's using all the lighting because he wants to film for Youtube, but that's a good point.

That's true too, maybe he cut off all the lights etc when playing on his own.

What’s people’s wish list for Sony’s Next gen VR headset?
I’m hoping for dedicated VR controllers built from the ground up for VR. Obviously a higher resolution. Anything else you can think of?

I traded my PSVR for the second and last time for monies towards a Nintendo Switch Lite. Hadn’t played it in months.

I'm guessing most people would agree with you, higher res screens, better and more precise controllers, being wireless would be the biggest on though I'm sure.

Need some help with this.

PS VR has been unplayable recently for me, every time I try and play the headset lenses fog up and my face gets extremely hot, to the point of sweating. Anyone have tips to combat this?

Picked up some PS Move controllers yesterday and also picked up Batman Arkham VR for 6 bucks on the store. Awesome experience.

What games do you have? I recommend superhot if you haven't already.

I have quite a few, however Superhot isn't one of them. I will check it out.
Dude, have you played the London Heist demo yet? If you do, you will instantly purchase Blood & Truth. Similar feeling to Batman Arkham VR, but a whole game. Gets around not having smooth motion (AKA analog stick movement) on Moves. Production value is high, and feels like a real game. It's also a great follow up to playing through Super Hot.

Also don't let the simple look of AstroBot fool you. It's actually amazing, and a complete game changer for platformers. If it weren't for AstroBot and Blood & Truth, I'd have already sold my PSVR and gotten a Quest.... I'm still getting a Quest though. Just waiting for them to come back in stock, and when I have time to play.
