EA has taken the decision not to continue the
Project CARS franchise, following its
acquisition of Codemasters.
The series, which was previously published by Bandai Namco, consists of three console racing games released between 2015 and 2020, as well as a mobile spin-off in 2021. All three titles were developed by Slightly Mad Studios, who were themselves
acquired by Codemasters in 2019.
EA told
gamesindustry.biz that it made the decision to “stop further development and investment” in the Project CARS series.
“Decisions like these are very hard, but allow us to prioritise our focus in areas where we believe we have the strongest opportunity to create experiences that fans will love,” said the statement from EA.
“We are focusing on our strengths in our racing portfolio, particularly licensed IP and open-world experiences, and expanding our franchises to be more socially-led with long-term live services that will engage global communities.”
EA is working with staff at Slightly Mad Studios who were impacted by the decision to move them into suitable roles across its EA Sports and racing portfolio.
