Project CARS Franchise is dead

Yep, sounds like people were right about the trailer. What they are making makes zero sense. A "sim" tire model but with no wear and actual pit stops? That doesn't even make sense. You can make short races where that doesn't even come into play anyway.

ACC is on sale with the Steam sale, might have to check that out, or just stick with what I have.

I don't think any game uses the same physics for the AI, but I could be wrong.

Some not good news on Pcars3. No tire wear, no fuel burn and no pit stops? They do this to "keep the racing action going".

Another hard pass.

So sad. Why take it out completely. Why not make it an option.

I'm on an OG X1. Maybe stability on X1X is better.

The AI seems decent. In my first career race I thought the AI was going to be terrible. I started at the back and took over 12 cars in 4 minutes of 40 minute race, but, then I ended up having a great battle with 7th and 6th for the rest of tge 36 minutes.

it seems the higher placed tgey are the better they are. So, you have this mix of skill levels with number 1 being the max difficulty your difficulty choice allows. I have done 2 40 minute raced tgus far though. Maybe it just me being crap & inconsistent.
I am staring with career. But this guy says avoid career and do Championship:

Whole thing sort of sounds contradictory. "It is the same old sim, but more accessible". In Pcars 2 you could always start with slower cars and driving assists.

They keep using words like "simplified" when talking about changes. Is it a sim or not?

I'll definitely hold off and see what others say.

Well you can't spell simplified without sim.

I'll see myself out.

So, does ACC have a good hotlap functionality? Steam has it on sale for $23 and I'm tempted to try it. It sounds like even on PC it takes a beefy machine though. I wish these games had demos.

You mean like rivals in Forza? Not really. It has a special event section where it does hotlap, hot stint, superpole. I haven't tried it yet, though.

ACC is on sale for $23 on Steam and I might grab it there still. How's the driving model? People say it is really good, but is it worth the upgrade over Pcars 2? Pcars 2 seems to drive fine to me. Pcars 3 is obviously not looking promising.

This should just be renamed the ACC thread :)

Picked up ACC last minute at the Steam sale and wow. I'm blown away. Physics feel great. I was a little scared off that they'd be too twitchy but I'm learning with my wheel.

I know they took a lot of flack for only focusing on one (soon two) classes of cars and not doing the 200+ car thing, but focusing on one set of cars really shows.

I just wish there were more North American tracks. I had to pick up the DLC that added Laguna Seca though.

I'm still about 5 seconds off the pace just trying to get around Brands Hatch, but even hot laps are fun. It runs great on my nearly 3 year old PC too.

Anyway, back to actual Pcars 3 stuff. Some footage of an Indy car at Laguna Seca. I'm no expert on Indy car physics, but I'm guessing that unless the driver is one of the best in the world, a car should be a lot more squirrely around Laguna.

A lot more info from someone who actually played. Basically, it is as we thought, this is really not a Pcars sequel, but more like a Grid game.

If you're looking for a racing game, this might be good, but it is no sim.

I can't believe they are trying for the Forza/GT space. Looks pretty soulless...

Hilarious.

You could tell from the very first trailer that this was an arcade game. After all the lies of 'it is still sim' it turns out to just be an arcade game.

Got given the game yesterday. Played about 4 hours. It's bad.

Graphics are terrible. Had it maxed out @ 1080P. Lighting is poor, textures are meh. Car models look poor.
The A.I is terrible. No awareness. They smash and bang you around the track.
The Career mode is utter garbage. Muliple pointless events just to unlock a short Championship.
Physics, lol. "Still a sim" it isn't even close to. Very arcadey.
The track guide is a joke. The braking points are way, way off. The Apex marker is wrong on a fair few corners.
Oh and the game hands out perfect corners for terrible corners.

Shockihg how bad this.

Was watching Super GT on YouTube play this and just looks terrible. Compared to his driving ability in GT Sport and Forza it looks so silly the way the cars handle.

Project Cars is DEAD folks....

EA has taken the decision not to continue the Project CARS franchise, following its acquisition of Codemasters.

The series, which was previously published by Bandai Namco, consists of three console racing games released between 2015 and 2020, as well as a mobile spin-off in 2021. All three titles were developed by Slightly Mad Studios, who were themselves acquired by Codemasters in 2019.

EA told gamesindustry.biz that it made the decision to “stop further development and investment” in the Project CARS series.

“Decisions like these are very hard, but allow us to prioritise our focus in areas where we believe we have the strongest opportunity to create experiences that fans will love,” said the statement from EA.

“We are focusing on our strengths in our racing portfolio, particularly licensed IP and open-world experiences, and expanding our franchises to be more socially-led with long-term live services that will engage global communities.”

EA is working with staff at Slightly Mad Studios who were impacted by the decision to move them into suitable roles across its EA Sports and racing portfolio.

No surprise.

No surprise. Once they stopped being a sim, their game had no point. They were a nice option as a sim with Pcars2, but this sort weird sim-lite didn't work. Why would anyone play this game over GT and/or Forza? Simmers stick with their hardcore sims, and casuals love GT/Forza.
