From an article, "In-game PC vs. PS4 comparison shows hardly any difference."

You may have asked yourself a couple of times – what’s the big deal about Project CARS, besides that it looks so damn good? Perhaps that its developer Slightly Mad Studios managed such visuals without the budget behind a Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport. The racing sim was already looking amazing when it was coming to PC, but now that it’s been announced for PS4 and Xbox One, it would be interesting to compare and contrast the two versions.

We took the PS4 version [screens were released today by Slightly Mad Studios and have been confirmed to be in game] – which will arguably end up being the best looking console version – on top and the PC version on the bottom. And not to quote upworthy or anything but the results will surprise you.

Note: This is not to be taken as a final comparison between the two versions. This article is more about how the PlayStation 4 version is shaping up. For our final verdict on the differences you have to wait till November.

F1:

The first compares the cockpit view between the two. No real differences here – the PS4 version only less reflectivity on the car’s chrome body due to the prevalence of clouds. The PC version on the other hand is a bright sunny day. Draw distance between the two is fairly similar as well.

BAC Mono Front:

Next, we have a comparison between the BAC Mono’s front hood. Both the PS4 and PC version show strong reflections – if you want to be extra picky, the tarmac is also well done in both instances. No jaggies to be seen in either version and that chrome looks sweet, regardless of the angle. Another draw yet again.

BAC Mono Rear:

Comparing the rear of the BAC Mono is a tad more difficult, given the different states of motion in both versions. Nonetheless, you’ll notice those sweet reflections once more and no jaggies in either version.

RUF CTR3:

Now we’re talking. The PS4 version of the RUF CTR3 looks slightly more clear, but the haziness of the PC version is due to environmental effects. The real time reflections on the PS4 version are far more obvious as a result, but you can make out the minute water droplets on the PC version’s hood. Some slight jaggies can be seen on the PC version but again, that’s likely due to the effects.

RUF CTR3:

A close-up of the RUF CTR3 reveals two different hood materials – a deeper chrome red in the PC version and a patterned design for the PS4 version. We’ll give the nod to the PS4 version in the above shot simply due to the quality of reflections, but if you look to the PC version, you’ll notice some subtle yet very realistic reflections on the RUF CTR3′s side. The texture quality of the ground in the PC version is also enough to prove it’s attention to finer details.

Overall though, we couldn’t spot any real, earth shattering differences in terms of anti-aliasing, texture quality, reflections or draw distance. Seeing both in motion is still necessary to ascertain which one performs better but that’s our initial verdict. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.

The screenshots are apparently realtime according to Andy Tudor.

Res and framerate for any console version isn't confirmed, nothing about both PS4 and Xbox being 1080p 60.

Unless you can move the camera around when the game so paused, that's not gameplay.

Yeah and the environments seem overly blurred too, I mean I'm sure a developer has the ability to move the camera around in the pause menu if they want to but they really don't look like legit gameplay screens.

People should go to WMD forums to spot differences....seriously the PC version looks better. It isn't even a question.
Nod to the PS4 though for looking really good.

Well nobody talks about the main difference here and the biggest one 60fps on PC vs 30FPS on PS4 and i can bet anything you want that the PS4 will be 30fps.

Since i have Project cars and i know what it takes for PC to have it locked at 60 FPS no way PS4 can match the 60FPS ever ill eat my words if they prove me wrong.

The first set is gameplay, the rest is replay mode.

When people say screencap, it means no post processing (because you click the screencap button, & not use an in game camera that will have post processing), its as good as you see on your screen.

Nearly forgot about it. Given SMS's previous console releases, this is most likely.

In real life do these cars really have a "drink" button?

Would be nice to see some real images though. This isn't gameplay.

PC version will have the ability to perform better. Close the thread.

"Project Cars Has “High” Chance To Run at 60 FPS On The PS4; Devs Still Aiming For 60 FPS On PS4/XBO."

"Recently Project Cars was unveiled for the first time on the PS4 and it looked great, almost as good as it looks on the PC. This came as a surprise, especially since it was confirmed that the game is running at close to 60 fps on the PS4."

"Ian Bell took it to himself to confirm their frame rate target for both the PS4 and Xbox One. Speaking about the frame rate, he said: “We’re still aiming for 60 FPS on those consoles.” Here the consoles refer to PS4 and Xbox One, not Wii U.

"When questioned whether 60 fps is possible at all on the PS4/XBO, he replied: “We’re already there on PS4, so high : )”

This sort of visual & 1080p/60 on PS4? If so, color me impress.

The more people that can play this in all it's glory the better! I wonder how this will perform in VR for the morpheus vs rift.

"high chance" "aiming at 60FPS" etc... just hyping the game, nothing confirmed and i still state it will run only at 30fps locked.

I run 2x SLi Titans OC to the max 1150mhz with 6x Core i7 4930k @ 4.6ghz and i have hard time keeping 60FPS locked in rain and night settings check my screenshots in PC thread.

Unless they nerf the PS4 version then it might run but saying it will look the same as PC and 60FPS no chance!!!

A question for framerate nerds. How come we never hear about 40 fps or 50 fps? Why is the talk always about 30 fps or 60 fps, as if there is no middle ground? Let's say these developers can't get it to run at 60 fps. Why couldn't they target 50 fps instead? Why are 30 and 60 magical numbers?

Something to do with the native frequency our displays have. Mostly 60hz I believe?

America's electrical standards target 60Hz as being the standard frequency for AC (alternating current), meaning the current alternates 60 times a second, and this affects all electrical appliances including TVs manufactured for use in the US. The result is that any TV you buy in America will have a refresh rate of 60Hz or any multiple of 60, and this means that 60/120/240/etc pictures/frames are refreshed on the screen. With a 60Hz TV, if you try playing a game at 24 pictures/frames per second, that means you have to divide the 24 pictures across the 60 pictures a second the TV has to display, and it does not divide evenly thus causing a jiggering effect due to some pictures being displayed for two frames and others for three frames just to fill all 60 refreshes of the TV. If it was 20 pictures per second, the game will generate one picture for every three refreshes of the TV nice and even. I don't know if that explains it well, but I hope it helps.

That helps, thank you. I never understood that.

rabble rabble lazy devs rabble rabble. Or something.

Why is the Xbox One left out of this when it will have the best version of Project Cars?

Because the Xbox one version is simply the best, and the discussion ends there. But the PS4 and PC are still trying to break the tie-breaker for second place.

Maybe, turns out PS4 is the console with the secret sauce. Plot twist! :p

On a serious note, I think many smoke & mirrors are use for the console versions, cutting put details, physic in area not obvious. Just a guess.

How about some gameplay pics and videos, not this replay crap.

With the hype surrounding this game, related to it's SIM physics....it better TROUNCE the simulation physics in GT, Forza, Race Pro and iRacing. If it even has a hint of Shift 2 physics, the game can blow me.
