So they had a conference to help their partners to sell their software on a platform so they know they had airtime to the gamers to see.

To him that was important for relationships with 3rd parties.

I think they should have at least shown Fable. The worst kept secret in the industry.

just because we know doesn't mean it was time to shine. That is if it is FABLE.

The media made out to be it will be there to show. I don't recall Playground saying anything at all.

They show what they can do, I say give them the trust and I am sure they will deliver.

They are basically going to be the same thing, to get any noticeable difference in power would make it way too expensive and probably not even possible in a console form factor. Both will be good machines I'm sure and both will make great looking games.
Skip the ceremony, bro.

We both know Microsoft can't afford to be weaker than the PS5 or they'll be torn to shreds. I still think Phil and Co will have the more powerful box. Not fanboy rhetoric. But because they gotta be. They really don't have a choice.

Sony announced the same amount of detail MS did before MS said anything, nobody is laying all of their cards on the table yet but realistically neither one is going to be much more powerful than the other.
Yeah, Jinca. If I were you I wouldn't make that call yet. You know way more about this tech stuff than I do, and I've been right more times than you have. lol

Nah. Sony missed this year. They won't miss the next. And Microsoft is going to have to bring the juggernauts, specs and services in full swing. Sonys going to show up locked and loaded. Microsoft can't afford to be one upped.

Yeah, next year's E3 should be spectacular.

It's not even close, you constantly conflate things to try to make yourself look right and you rarely are, I am wrong from time to time as we all are but you claim to be right even when you are proven wrong over and over lol.

It is fanboy rhetoric because you are acting like it's going to matter that much. Again the power differential will basically be all on paper next gen, neither one is going to be able to add enough power over the other to make a difference. The reason it mattered with the X1 and PS4 was Sony had over a 30% power advantage, most of their games were 1080p while MS was asking people to pay $100 more for an X1 where basically all of the games in the first few years were 720p to 900p. As long as they are close to each other next gen neither one is going to be hurt commercially.

Sony can't afford a huge power gap either because PlayStation is basically all that company has going for them, MS has money coming in from all kind of other areas while Sony has modest amounts coming in from a few places but PlayStation is their bread and butter and they can't afford to lose that. Again they are both going to get the best thing they can from AMD that will be workable in a console at the price point they are shooting for which is likely $499 for both.

It's probably not ready to be shown yet, another CGI trailer wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Again, I'm going to disagree here for two reasons: one, Microsoft took a huge beating at the beginning of this gen due to the under powered X1 compared to the PS4. That's what got the power initiative started to begin with. It was a major deal that stained the brand up until the 1X was revealed.

Two, Sony has a huge amount of good will going into next gen. And despite all the good Microsoft has done over just these last two years, they still have something to prove, and 2020 will be the start of everything. If they succumb to falling short in the power game again to Sony (never mind Phil stating blatantly that the next Xbox will be the most powerful) the gaming community will evicerate Phil and the next box from the onset because they made the same mistakes from the previous generation. And Phil will look silly for touting something that couldn't be backed up.

One thing about the gaming community that's a constant: they arent very forgiving and they forget NOTHING - especially when it comes to Xbox.

People are still blaming Microsoft for the failed Scalebound even after it was confirmed it wasn't their fault.

Pretty sure it was confirmed by insiders that Platinum games were using Scale bound money to develop games for other publishers. The Scale Bound project was announced and contract signed before some of the other games Platinum finished yet Scale Bound was in an unplayable state.

Not only was it not confirmed by any insiders it wasn't even suggested by any insiders

Its fact that Platinum released games for other publishers without meeting their contractual obligation with MS for Scale Bound.

That doesn't mean they used money for Scalebound on other games. People just want it to be all on Platinum just like some want it to be all on Microsoft.

If I hire an architect and builder to design and build me a 2 story house with 5 bedrooms, Living room, family room, theatre room and a pool for $600,000. They instead build me a one story house with 4 bedrooms, no theatre room, no pool, etc.

Who's fault is it if I paid the firm the $600,000 we originally agreed upon?
Do we both have fault?

Do you think its always 100% the developers fault if a game gets cancelled?

The only thing I'll fault MS for in regards to Scalebound is that they bought into the hype and didn't cancel the game sooner. We probably would've gotten a Sunset Overdrive 2 if they didn't waste their money on all of those Scalebound delays with nothing to show for it.

It's bad/too lenient management if it still looked that bad after those delays and wasted money.

Again technology only moves so fast, they'll both be asking for the best thing they can get from AMD and still be able to sell for no more than $499 after including everything else that's needed (memory, SSD etc) Of course they will both be making their own modifications where possible but only so much can be done in that area, Phil basically said the same thing during his giant bomb interview, it's going to depend on the price they are going for. Right now we know they are both using Ryzen, Navi and will have hardware accelerated raytracing (it'll be limited) and will be launching in the same timeframe so how much difference do you think there will be? even if it's a 10% difference one way or the other we won't see it on screen regardless of who has it so it just doesn't matter.

As far as Phil saying the most powerful console, where is the actual quote? I keep seeing that said on forums but nobody shows the quote where he said they will definitely have the most powerful console. They use marketing terms like "best place to play" and then later on qualify that by using the services they offer or even in one lame attempt I think it was Major Nelson who said their controller made xbox the best place to play. Phil said during the press conference it'll be the most powerful hardware Microsoft has ever made not the most powerful console ever made which just goes to show they don't know if it'll be the most powerful or that they know it won't be but again even if Sony is more powerful it just won't matter in the real world.

Yes. There is no way he knows enough about what Sony is doing to make such a claim. Not only that, but Phil doesn't use adversarial positioning in regards to the competition.

They could make the claim with the X because it was true and the Pro was a known quantity...

Yes.
With the amount of money dumped into the development of most of these games there is no reason a playable product wasn't ready on time when Platinum picked up 2 other contracts after the Scale Bound contract and was able to deliver on time.

It depends, it should always been judged on a case by case basis, this one seems like it was more so on the developer (as far as I can tell) but there are times where the publisher is asking for unrealistic things as well. We don't know what the initial budget was here or how far away from complete the game actually was.

How about Phantom Dust where they decided they wanted to add a single player but wouldn't increase the budget. Dev couldn't do it and the game got canned. All on the dev still?

But in this case I doubt its so black and white. Its just easier for people to see it that way. Games get cancelled. It happens.

Platinum would tell you the same thing

It has been just over two years since Microsoft cancelled Scalebound and ended its partnership with Platinum Games. At the time, this was a huge blow for the Xbox One, as the console lacked a variety of big-name exclusives, particularly from third-parties. While many fans have blamed Microsoft for the way things turned out, this week, Platinum Games head, Atsushi Inaba, spoke out in defence of Microsoft.

Speaking in an interview with VCG, Inaba said that “watching fans getting angry at Microsoft over the cancellation wasn’t easy for us”. He went on to explain that “the reality is, when any game in development can’t get released it’s because both sides failed”.

Yeah each one should be judged by it's own circumstances, publishers can have unrealistic expectations at times as well so it's not always cut and dry. There are times when the publisher is more to blame and times when the dev is but the blame is always shared between both parties to some degree.

Yeesh, scale bound was a bungle. It happens. Probably much more often than we realize. End of. I'm sure both parties had some hand in it. Bottom line is the Dev doesn't blame MS and that's good enough.

MS didn't say it was all Platinum either. That's all we know. Good enough.

Arguing about details and motivations on this subject as if we were involved is absurd.
