Project Scorpio v2.0

Im not sure why they are talking 4k 60. I imagine 4k 30 will be more common, but if devs are getting 1080p 60 on the one, then we will see 4k 60 on the scorpio.

It's going to do 4k/60fps no doubt. I don't think it's going to be common though. Maybe for your shooters and racers but developers are going to use the power how they want.

I think we should see more and more dynamic res games. It just makes more sense to me that way. Plus they can get the solid 60 fps framerates and add IQ without much sacrifice. Remember that 4k is 4X 1080p. That leaves a lot of room in between.

God, I wish it was an option in every game. It'd be great on PC as well.... just pick your desired framerate and enjoy.

I totally started a new thread as if by magic and without realising.

Thanks, mods.

Thmods.

I'd imagine that Scorpio 4K/60 will have the visual image quality of XB1 720/60 (BF series) for tech intensive FPS' games.
I imagine being 4k would ammount to impeccable image quality ;) assets and effects, maybe, but dem bitches be sharp!

I'd like to think so, though, I wouldn't expect "Ultra" setting quality at 4K/60 in really demanding games. I'm sure the IQ will be great at 4K, though I'd think there will be some "compromises" to get it there.

I really couldn't care less bout 4K, however, I'm really looking forward to some lower res' max'd out IQ, great A.I., with all the bells and whistles. That would be a better use of the Scorpio's power (in my opinion) than "hey it's running in 4K/60!"

No reasonable GPU currently on the market is capable of sustaining 60 FPS with maxed out settings. Even in games that are a little older, like GTA 5, they still can't manage it.

Any game that wants to hit 4K@60FPS will likely need to be lower res and upscaled.

Image quality is different than the assets used. Banjo Kazooie on Rare Replay has great IQ, even though it uses low res assets. Image Qality has to do with clarity and solidity of the image, not the quality of the lighting or assets. At 4k you almost don't even need anti-aliasing. It does wonders for the image quality.

Texture resolution and Poly resolution of the objects in scene are separate from Image quality and each other.

Bad image quality is when it's blurry, shimmery, or muddy. Good IQ can make a game look nice even if it doesn't really look good from an asset standpoint.

This is what i'm talking about. Will we be getting a console that will do what it should have done at launch or a console with meaningful gain in the Scorpio?

This guy is putting words in Phil's mouth though. What he meant was that games at 4K/60fps will not compromise in performance. Not 4K/60fps with max settings. He's setting himself up for disappointment.

Unless "No Compromises" refers to in comparison to the X1. Did they say max PC settings? No. Context people. Spencer was talking about Xbox.

Yeah, not sure this guy made the video to back Spencer up. Sounds like an Anti-Ms guy by the rhetoric. You know "corporate slaves" and all that.

Yeah, but every time Phil talks he leaves things open for interpretation. I think it's all valid concern. Are they selling us a box that's really worth the $500 or whatever it will cost or is it more of a buy if you want the best of the best and maybe developers will do something great with it.

By not mandating 4k/60fps it leaves a lot of grey area. Don't sell people on the premise if it really can't do it. I think most people will be fine with the One S and Microsoft needs to make that more clear. If people go out and buy a Scorpio thinking they're getting locked 4k/60fps there is going to be backlash.

He has already said it though. Seems clear to me. People are just being deliberately obtuse about it, imo. Spencer has said in interviews that they aren't mandating anything- so that means not everything will be 4k/60fps. That is a good thing. Let Developers use it how they want. It also means that games can still be taylored to the vast majority who do not have 4k tvs.

It doesn't matter though, people will still find a reason to bitch.

He's saying the machine CAN do those things, which is funny because depending on the amount of sacrifices, an X1 or PS4 could too, technically.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying, but in a press conference/interview, his job is to sell something. He isn't releasing an affidavit.
Eg.

Claus 1)a.1 the console may run at blah blah blah
1)a.2. the console may blah blah

They throw statements out that are reasonable enough to understand. It's like when people were debating the PSVR would cost the same as a Vita, when they said it would cost the same as a conaole.

That, and they've also said that developers can do whatever they want with it.

I really do hope you can have 1080p ultra mode vs 4k normal mode.

I don't think MS would have boldly promoted Scorpio as 6tf beast a year and a half away, unless they got insider tips PS Pro was going to be a 4tf system.

Conversely, that's why Sony never hyped up or promoted Pro until today in a lower key meeting compared to big E3 flair. They must have knew Scorpio was going big, so no point touting Pro at E3 when MS was likely going to overshadow it by 2 tf.

Sony was very careful with their wording when discussing resolution on the PS4 Pro.

I'm sure MS will be a bit careful in that regard as well though when they reveal and show off software.

Unless it's like Forza 7 full dialed in to 4K/60.

Im thinking 6tf won't be that impressive a year from now. I'm hoping it goes higher than that.

but you never know, PS might come with a surprise come e3 2017.. Who knows! Even if there system is capable of a external gpu upgrade.. Its all speculation and wishes right now.

these things are becoming more like pc's nowsdays.. They can upgrade off the same system its running on..as easy as a storage upgrade

At worst, Scorpio is 6 tf as stated. At best, MS lowballed it to give them breathing room to surprise gamers.I'm thinking 7-8 tf now too.

It is obvious that the Xbox One S and the Scorpio announcements stole Sonys thunder.

Microsoft stole all the talking points that would have been the Megatons.

HDR
UHD Drive
Higher Specs
True 4K Gaming
Price Point

Sony really didn't have a talking point to drive the conference and it showed.

Colin Moriarty said it best on the XoXo podcast.

"Sony was out flanked by MS."
