Holy Sheet!!!!!! This is going to be a long 12 months!

Microsoft showed off a video in which a number of developers touted the console's massive power -- it'll feature "true" 4K resolution, 6 teraflops of GPU power and will run at 60Hz. It'll of course be VR-ready, and Bethesda noted it'll run Fallout 4 in VR, as announced last night.

so what happened to the power of the cloud making the One future proof?

Kind of agree. I have a fairly old PC hooked up to my TV for many years, but it can't play new games so I have a console for that and I've always preferred the console for gaming.

But I need a new PC really so it feels like it makes more sense to drop $1000 for a decent PC and move my gaming habits there vs. a $500 next gen console and still have to spend probably $700 for a new PC at some point soon.

Also this 4k s***, I can't afford a new TV on top of everything else coming up :( Would the benefits of a new Xbox next year with that horsepower be a big noticeable leap forward on a 1080p LED?

Uggh!

It's a good day to be an Xbox fan. Time to retire the blue avatar. It was a good run!
its actually a seriously bad day for Xbox fans now that all X1 games will run on PC (look and play better), really no need at all to own an X1.
and on PC you don't pay to play online.

I really like that the games will scale to all the Xbox consoles, no one are forced to buy Scorpio, they can just keep playing on X1.

And I got some friends who jumped ship this Gen, they will be back With Scopio.
(they are into the 'playing with powar' ting)

But great applause to MS, ppl demanded more and they will deliver

Kidding. This is great news that all X1 games will be able to be played on the PC. Won't be missing out of MS's offerings this way.

Most console gamers game on console because they don't want to game on PC. And most don't have PC's capable of running the games. So no loss.

This is like the complete polar opposite to the direction and messaging they had for Xbox One.

What a difference 3 years makes.

Smart move. Getting the Terraflops, Ramdwidth and back compat confirmations out there as well as not clarifying the ram. Dat 4K buzzword.

Virtually every Neo article is going to spell out how under powered it is compared to the upcoming project scorpio for the next 18 months.

True. Also because of the cheaper price and most consumers like to play on the TV. For gamers that game on both PC and console, this is amazing news because I bought the X1 for its true exclusives but now that Scorpio and everything else after will be released on the PC, there's no need for me to have an X1 anymore :)

Yup, but that is the minority.

What a great ecosystem they have now. Gotta love it.

This makes no sense.

PC's and consoles are different devices with different strengths and weaknesses. To claim that "there's really no need to own an X1" is both partially correct (by design), and partially false (illustrating your misunderstanding).

If you think you don't need a console anymore, that's great! You now the option to game on a PC and you'll get all the benefits that brings with it (more power, more customization, etc.)... and both you and Microsoft win. You win, because (in your opinion) you don't need an Xbox anymore, so MS just saved you a ton of money. MS wins because they've earned your business on the most powerful and flexible platform in the world (Windows 10, which happens to be theirs).

How is that bad, let alone "seriously bad" for anyone? Giving people real choices and options?

Now, I for one would NEVER game primarily (let alone exclusively) on a PC, and here's why:

1. Price of entry is too high for power experiences. Consoles still offer the absolute best performance bang for your buck. Same spec PC's vs. consoles will always lose in real-world perf, so just to MATCH the performance of a console, you need to buy something much more powerful than a console.

2. PC is a pain in the ass: Startup and entry into games
. On my Xbox, I walk in the door, I say "Xbox, On" and within seconds my whole living room is powered on, ready to go. I pick up my controller, and within a minute or so I've launched into the game I want to play. Easy, fast, simple. On PC, I have to wait for the thing to load up, sign in (password protected, since it needs to be - as I have lots of secure things on my PC), wait for my game hub of choice to load up, THEN launch into a game, and hope that it works. It takes way longer, and is a much bigger pain in the ass.

3. PC is a pain in the ass: Software and hardware compat. I HATE dealing with incompatibilities, and they're all over PC's. I use STEAM on multiple machines, and Age of Empires II HD just doesn't work on one of my machines. No idea why, it just fails. One of my games had terrible performance and stability on a popular FPS until I updated my drivers... and then it was just 'alright'. No company in the world can ensure their products work on every combination of software and hardware configs, so inevitably it takes WORK just to get things running... PAIN IN THE ASS! Have I EVER needed to do that on my Xbox One? No. Not once.

4. PC is a pain in the ass: Gameplay/perf inconsistencies. Even with better-than-console specs on a PC, it's not uncommon that perf hitches inconsistently. I'd VASTLY prefer a steady 900p/30fps to 4K inconsistent/jitter/hitchy-ville... and performance on PC's is just terribly unpredictable. Oh, and let's not forget about all those little background tasks that, if not managed, can also kill perf. PAIN IN THE ASS! Do I deal with that on my console? Never. To get a flawless experience that's as consistent as a console, yet meaningfully better image quality, I'm looking at 3x to 4x the cost of a console (minimally).

5. PC is a pain in the ass: Input devices. To run a PC decently in a living room for gaming, you'll need a mouse, a Keyboard, and a controller. With Xbox, I have a controller I can use - and EVERYTHING I need to do can be done with it... not to mention, voice controls are an awesome ease of use addition, which doesn't work nearly as well on PC. I don't want a mouse and keyboard in my living room. have enough remotes and controllers, I don't need more clutter... not to mention, what a pain in the ass to have to use a mouse/keyboard to start up the machine, and THEN transition to controller for playing games... PAIN IN THE ASS!

6. UPDATE: Cheaters galore - PC's have ass communities. The PC is an unsecure platform. It's utterly trivial to penetrate game security on PC's, and anyone who wants to can do it. It's not a question of "if", it's a question of "when" and "how bad". Cheaters on consoles are much easier to monitor, catch, or even prevent.

Those are just the top 6 reasons I'd NEVER choose PC gaming over console. I don't like PC gaming. Windows 10 has warmed me up to it a bit, but I don't generally like gaming on PC's for all those reasons (and more).

So yes, there is still a reason (many, in fact) to own an Xbox One over a PC.

But the most elegant and beautiful part of MS's strategy is that they won't make you choose. You'll buy the games once, and play them anywhere. If you're like me, you probably have a PC in some room that's NOT your living room, and a console in your living room... in MS's vision, you can play the same games in both places anyway. Buy into the PC realm for the most powerful gaming for a while? No problem! Your Xbox games go with you. Get burned out on PC expenses and annoyances? No problem. Get a console, and your games go with you... It really is the best of both worlds, because they're the same world now... and whichever works best for you is where you can game.

I love it.

Edit: I forgot one of the most important reasons I hate PC gaming - cheaters/mods/insecure platform.

Yup as my post explained....no reason to own a xbox. Thx MS
I will be fragging with you in Gears 4 and I DON'T have to pay to play online! muwahaha

There is if you don't own a gaming PC. But for me, PS4/PC will be the perfect way to go. Best of both worlds.

I for one am psyched for the direction they're heading, being able to choose where you want to game, having all of your games come along for the ride... is amazing. Some people choose one or the other, but honestly i still see both as completely viable and that will be the case for me because i don't always have a choice of whether i can take over the tv and I'm on my computer.

Perfect example was just last night... got home from a long day at work, my bro hits me up to play Overwatch on Xbox and as soon as he sends the invite the wife puts on Game of Thrones which has a non compete clause at my house. So I'm delegated to the computer, unable to play those games, so League of Legends it is...

Being able to just play on either without a fuss, same controller, same games, not being stuck on battlenet would be a blessing.

She turned on Kardashians right after GoT... rough night.

Hmmm, must suck that a new xbox is coming out so soon after the XB1 released. Kinda like being dupped into buying 2 xboxes within a single generation.

Right. Spending about half a grand at release for an XB1 which was already far behind a pc to only spend hundreds more a few years later for another Xbox.

Oh wait, look who we're talking about. Didn't you disappear when all of your predictions failed to come to fruition? Oh lord....we gotta wait another year for you to disappear again?
