Without Memory is a new PS4 exclusive created in Unreal Engine 4, and its developer Dinosaurum Games has just opened the title’s official site. It’s got some initial details and pieces of artwork.

Over on the Dinosaurum Games site, Without Memory has been slated for a 2016 launch and is described as a third-person psychological thriller inspired by Quantic Dream’s work, which includes Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.

The Google-translated synopsis explains that Without Memory is, “the story of how one moment can change the life of an ordinary girl who was no different from other people. Anna suddenly wakes up in the woods and realizes that just does not remember anything. She knows no address, no information about themselves and very frightened. Any actions and actions directly affect the storyline and the state of the protagonist.

“You have to survive in harsh conditions, to make difficult decisions for which will have to bear responsibility. And finally – get the truth. Before our eyes, Anna will grow and develop. She learns to trust or to detect lies. The player’s actions will depend on the attitude of all the other characters.”

Similar to games like Heavy Rain, Without Memory will make use of what the team calls a “modernized” take on quick-time events that will be revealed at a later date that will, “transform gameplay into a fascinating passage, not just boring keystrokes that looks like: «Press X to win»”

Never got the chance to play Heavy Rain but Without Memory sounds good. 2016 is really far.

I thought the PS4 was running UE4 without memory, literally.

Sign me up if it's anything like those two titles mentioned.

Sounds good. I like usually like story-driven games. If I remember right, the developer is Russian, without much experience, so I don't know whether it'll turn out well or not. It's worth keeping an eye on, though.

50/50 on this game disappearing never to be heard from again, or highly scaled back.

Sounds too good to be true from an inexperienced indie.

See, I have some issues with "games" like this:

1. "Interactive Movie-like Games" don't do nearly as good a job as a movie at telling a story. I'm sorry, but on production value, cinematography, etc, etc, etc, - there's just no comparison - games are not as good at telling stories as movies... and the voice acting? Pathetic. Painful at times.

2. "Interactive Movie-like Games" generally don't have great (or even good) gameplay. Do I really want a 'quick time event' for using an inhaler for some fat character in a video game (Yes, that's a real thing QD's Heavy Rain). It's just not fun.

3. "Interactive Movie-like Games" generally have poor or no MP. In a world where I have to pay $60 for a new game, a 5-hour SP campaign with crappy gameplay and poor story-telling mechanics isn't enough. That's *maybe* a $20 experience. I play through it once, I'm done with it. Not worth $60.

4. "Interactive Movie-like Games" value graphics over everything else. Since the story telling is generally pretty bad and the gameplay generally sucks, all they spend their time and money on is making it look good. Great, it's an interactive demo that tells a crappy story. Grand.

So yeah, QD-inspired games sound quite uninspiring. SOOOOooo not interested.

If I wanted a good story, I'd read a book or watch a movie. If I want a great game, I'm not going to settle for some half-asses tech demo that does a poor job telling a story... but as a tech demo, sure. Sounds great.

I really hope I'm wrong about this one, but if the things that inspired it are of any indication, it'll be a nice looking tech demo with stale gameplay, made-for-TV dialog, worse-than-made-for-TV 'acting' and performances, and not much else.

Agree with that. Likely we will never see it.

On the Quantic Dream games, I will say enjoyed Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy, but Beyond was a disappointment. I think Cage has gone too far in the cinema direction, and I agree with some of the comments, even Flynn's, about some of his games. Otoh, I am not one of these guys who says "If I want a good story, I'll just watch a movie," since what that implies is that story and characters don't matter in gaming, they should be left for other mediums. I think games benefit greatly from good stories and characters. I don't think the Cage approach is the right one, though. Naughty Dog does that kind of thing well, to pick one example; so do many RPG developers. Gaming would be so much poorer without good stories and good characters.

Sony went right passed the clouds.

Sony shoots for the sun while everyone else shoots for the moon.

Without Memory sounds cool. I love story driven games so i'm on board. 2016 is a long way away though.

Big thing here is that Heavy Rain was good because of the writing and voice work/acting. Which allowed the more cinematic approach with the QTE controls. If they want people to look past the controls then they too will need quality writing and acting.

Also, 2016...bit of a ways off.

If this is ANYTHING like Heavy Rain, the game is going to be awesome, especially on the UE4 engine. I will be looking forward to this for sure.
