I haven't heard about that game in a long time.

Yeah, it's taken a long time.

Here's more:

"The highly anticipated first-person horror title released on Steam Early Access in 2014 and after four years of consistent updates and fan feedback, The Forest officially launched on PC in May earlier this year to very positive reviews. Most critics lauded the game’s realistic AI, tense atmosphere and how the title manages to make its open-world environment feel like an authentic living, breathing world. Its PC release has achieved an 83 on Metacritic and an 83.5 on Gamerankings, respectively."

"Interestingly, one new feature that may get PS4 owners excited is a brand-new 4-player co-op mode that wasn’t included in the original PC release. In this mode, 4 players take on the role of a group of fathers who have lost their children. Essentially, the fathers must all work together as a team in a bid to find their missing children."

Crap, I didn't know it was a FPS. I honestly haven't seen much of it and actually forgot about it.

I seem to remember you don't like games in first person. Is that right? If so, are you going to be getting Cyberpunk?

I only like FPS games with guns...primarily military shooters. I might get it if it turns out to be a must have game.

Oh I see. Well, that's good. I thought you might miss out because you didn't like the first-person perspective. Lot of that going around lately....

I haven't actually paid any attention to it. As soon as I read that it was in first person, I lost all interest. I'll look into it when it's closer to release and hopefully be blown away by it perhaps.

I don't think this is true but I figure I'll post it here anyway since so much gossip gets reported on the Xbox forum lol.

“[Occasionally], the level of parity in the game needs to be identical, therefore you reduce quality to ensure that everything looks of equal quality,” my source explains. “On The Division, Xbox had a deal with Ubisoft, and part of that deal was to ensure that the PS4 version did not look better than it. The resolution, frame rates, and density of assets could have been higher on PS4, but this was vetoed to prevent issues with Microsoft.”

If X is 40% more powerful than Pro, why would they need to hold the Pro version back? Seems like if they just let everything fall into place naturally, the Xbov version would be better. They wouldn't need to put artificial constraints on it.

Unless they're talking about the base models. In that case, then they might have to hold the PS4 version back so it wasn't better than the standard Xbox version.

Sounds like Phil is against the idea of holding back a competitors version of the game:

https://www.inquisitr.com/4291413/destiny-2-on-xbox-one-x-not-held-back-by-ps4-marketing-deal/

GameSpot did an interview with Xbox Head Phil Spencerwhere the outlet asked how he handles games like Destiny 2 when marketing deals create “a situation where [Bungie] can’t have it run better on the Xbox than on the PS4 because they have a deal with Sony.”

Spencer appeared taken aback by the question at first, but he responded he doesn’t know about any of the clauses in the deal that require what the GameSpot host implied. However, he’s not a fan of any deals that hold back any technical innovations or any deals that prevent content from appearing on other platforms.

The Xbox Head went on to explain it is up to developers to determine whether they want to use the power of the Xbox One X for framerate, resolution, or “techniques within the frame” is up to them. Spencer stated he’s not going to dictate to developers what they must support on the console.

Yeah they were talking base PS4 and Xbox One, they said that the deal that MS had with Ubisoft included them not making the PS4 version look superior. I don't believe that it's true but I also don't believe that an exec from either company would admit to it if it was part of a marketing deal.

I know Spencer was asked about something like that because of Destiny not being 60fps on the One X and the rumors that Xbox fanboys started spreading because they couldn't accept that the CPU in the console wasn't powerful enough to run the game at 60fps (Bungie explained that was the reason why) instead of admitting that the console wasn't designed to double framerates along with visual upgrades he just said something along the lines of "I hope that kind of thing isn't happening" He could have easily put an end to the talk about that game right then but he decided to let it sit out there and fester. I'm sure he was thinking "Why admit our machine isn't capable of it when I can just let people think Sony is playing dirty" but it also made Bungie look bad.

Hm, okay. Yeah, it would make sense if they're talking about the base models. Bummer for standard PS4 owners, if it's true. But then, "anonymous source," so who knows.

Honestly, I don't follow the discussions/debates about visual performance much. Even when it was in PS4's favor, I never cared much. Sounds trite, but I'm more interested in the game than minor visual differences in different versions. Since I upgraded to 4K/HDR, I care even less, because games look really good on both the Pro and X. I'm more than satisfied with either. I guess maybe I'm easily satisfied when it comes to the visual element. I can't tell a difference unless I watch a DF video or something, and even then, the sort of differences they talk about never affect my actual experience of a game...

Didn't a YouTube channel more or less prove bungie lied about the Ps4 pro and Xbox one x not being able to run it at 60fps? More a case of them not having the skills to do it?

Might have just been guess work overblown by others?

Don't know, never heard anyone lied but I know the guys at DF even said the CPU's weren't upgraded enough to handle it at 60fps. These CPU's didn't double in capability so expecting double the framerate is a bit much, especially when the game was designed around running at 30fps on the base consoles. It's not hard to imagine the outcry against them if the Pro/One X ran at 60 and the base models which the vast majority will be playing on ran at 30fps, we'd be hearing "unfair advantage" forever.

Bottom line is any game can run at 60fps if you remove enough layers, the game bungie wanted to put out using the tech they used was only capable of running at 30fps on these consoles.

Sounds like they’re implying that they only have one source, that no one outside them know if it’s credible

Aa for the frame rate issue, even if the x/pro can do destiny at 60 wouldn’t there be bit of an unfair playing field when playing against those running at 30?

Do people on pc have an advantage when running at a higher frame rate; 60-120+ultra

So what games do people actually think will launch next year for PS4?

My thoughts:

1. Days Gone - (yep we all know it's coming and I can't wait.
2. TLOU2 - I think it's believed to be next year but with no official date, I can't see it.
3. Ghost of Tsushima - Same as TLOU2.

The you've obviously got the multiplats such as Anthem, Division 2 etc.

Days Gone for sure. Ghost is 2020. TLOU2 might be 2020 also.

Here's what I expect:

Days Gone in Feb. (that's a sure thing)
Final Fantasy VII remake (at least the first installment)
Dreams (it's got to be out by 2019, right?)
Ghost of Tsushima (hasn't been announced for 2019, so it still could end up 2020, but I'm hoping for 2019).

Kind of a slow year, compared to the last few.

Here's what I would not expect to make 2019:
TLoU 2
Death Stranding

Add "Project Judge" for 2019, the new IP from the Yakuza studio.

We may also see additional Yakuzas (3, 4, and/or 5) remastered for PS4 next year. Not sure.

Picked up Battlefield 1 for $12. It's on sale this week, along with a bunch of other stuff (e.g., Detroit for $40). I heard good things about the BF1 singleplayer, so I was going to rent it. But for $12, what the hell. It's $6 if you're a PS+ member.

This week's sale. These are prices for PS+ subscribers; they'll be a bit higher if you're not a subscriber.

I picked up Battlefield 1. For $10, I'm considering Divinity: Original Sin, too. Not sure if I'm into something so in-depth, though.

PS4 Firmware Update 6.00 Released, Available to Download Now

Surprise! Sony has completed the beta for PS4 firmware update 6.00 and is rolling it out right now. Time to turn your console on and get it downloaded. Firmware 6.00 is just over 400MB, so it won't take you long to get your PS4 up to date.

But what does it do? Does it bring any new features? Well, the patch notes for the update simply say, "This system software update improves system performance", which is the usual statement we receive in minor updates. It's very unusual for a milestone update to release with so few changes. It might be that this is the drastic system performance overhaul the console has needed for a while now, which is great news if that's the case.

Sony has yet to divulge any further information about firmware update 6.00, but we expect it will do so later in the day.

I was hoping to be able to finally do that new stuff and fix that other stuff with this update, but it looks like that won't be the case.
