Figured I'd start this thread back up and see how it goes. We eliminated it a while ago, to encourage people to post more threads in the section, but I don't know if that worked. I think we need a place for routine discussions of the PS4. The Xbox section has a long-running one; the PS4 section should have one, too.

So, use this thread as a place to post questions or notes that don't necessarily warrant a separate thread.

I heard a pause/resume feature is coming in April or so.

Triple post trophy.

Here are more details, for the link lazy:

"This feature (pause/resume) will allow for players to enter rest mode on their PS4 without having to quit out of a game."

"Another big feature coming is the ability to change button assignments for all of your games. Did you prefer the R1 trigger over the R2 trigger in your FPS games? Now you can change that even if a game doesn't have button mapping built into it."

And here's the full list:

Main Features

  • The system can now enter rest mode without closing any applications. You can adjust this setting in [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Rest Mode].
  • [Accessibility] has been added to [Settings]. You can adjust accessibility settings such as zooming and button assignments.
Trophies

  • You an now delete trophies with 0% achievement progress.
  • [Earned Date], [Not Earned], and [Grade] have been added as sorting options for trophies. You can also sort by [Earned Date] and [Not Earned] options when comparing trophies with other players.
  • You can now search the Internet for details about trophies from the options menu in [Trophies].
  • Screenshots of scenes when you earn trophies are now saved automatically. You can view saved screenshots in [Capture Gallery].
  • You can now share trophy details and screenshots. Select the trophy you want to share details about in [Trophy], and then press the Share button.
Share Play

  • You can now test the host’s connection speed when starting Share Play.
  • You can now enjoy Share Play at 60 fps. A host in a party can adjust the setting in [Party Settings] > [Video Quality for Share Play] > [Frame Rate].
  • A user who is running version 2.50 or earlier on their system cannot use Share Play with someone who is running version 2.50 beta on their system. Users who are both running system software version 2.50 beta can enjoy Share Play.
Other

  • Users who are your Facebook friends can now be displayed in [Players You May Know].
  • You can now send real name requests in addition to Friend requests to users who are currently not on your Friends list.
  • You can now apply a shadow style for text in [Themes].
  • You can now enter up to 140 characters for your self-introduction.
  • If you enter 22 characters or more for your self-introduction, only 21 characters will be displayed on a PS4 system running system software version earlier than 2.50.
  • You can now use the touch pad to operate playback of videos on discs.
  • [Discover] has been added to introduce users to PS4 system features. You can view information about features in [Notifications] > [Discover].
  • Remote Play cannot be used with a PS Vita system running version 3.35. A system software update for the PS Vita (to be released later) is required.

button assignment sounds handy. gonna swap in jump and crouch to L1 & R1 for my first person shooters; whatever setup allows my thumbs to stay on the analogs for the most amount of time for all games, really

I think they talked about that in the damn revile did they not? I hope it comes soon. Most games have good save points but be cool to stop any place you wanted if you knew you was coming back later.

Hmm reading there if you can turn this off and on seems the PS4 will use more power doing this?

If that Trophies capture thing can do video that would be cool for people who film playing to show how to get Trophies.

I'm looking forward to the pause/resume feature. Just yesterday, I lost progress because someone called me in the middle of a game, and I hit the PS button to pause the game. The call lasted over an hour, and by the time I got back, the PS had closed the game, put itself in rest mode, and I had lost the last 10 or 15 minutes of progress. Not a big deal, but it would've been nice to have that pause/resume feature.

I am looking forward to the resume feature, i love it on the x1 and one of my favorite features of these consoles. it will be about time for ps4 to get it.

I was wondering why there wasn't a PS discussion thread. Anyway, i'm back and bleeding blue again. PS4 is #1.

I have never had the resume feature actually work on the Xbox One yet. Failed nearly always with SO, FH2, and now with Ori. Don't have my hopes up that Sony's implementation will be any better.

I haven't tried it all that much, but every time I have shut down with a game running, the game is always screwed up when I come back. This happens every time with Ori for example, where the screen will flash from black to normal until I quit and restart the game. I know I am not alone as a quick Google search turns up many others with the same issues. Not sure if there is a fix, but for now I am just turning the feature off.

Only problem I had with it is in Sunset Overdrive. If the controller was turned off outside of the game, then I turned the controller on and went into the game, it wouldn't let me do anything. I had to shut off the controller again and then turn it on for the game to recognize.

I tried playing Knack this weekend. Couldn't last more than a couple hours before deleting it. Game isn't hard just cheap as hell and my backlog is more important than trying to play through it right now.

what i usually do is when i want to stop, i hit the home button so it returns to the menu then i turn the console off, maybe try that to see if it works better for u? Sucks the feature doesnt work correctly for u as it really is awesome just starting up the console and being able to jump right back where i left off.

Yeah that did happen to me a few times with sunset overdrive but most of the time it would start back up for me. Loved sunset overdrive, if it had new game plus mode i probably would have kept it but it is truly a experience not to be missed.

Ori has some bugs. It is the ONLY game that I have problems with the resume feature with.

Maybe it's better now, but it gave me hell with SO when that game launched, and FH2 is still problematic. It's a half-baked feature at this point, until it works near flawlessly for every game, every time, no matter what state I leave it in.

Don't know about SO, I don't have it :/
I've got probably more than 20 games, and don't have issues with any of them but Ori. Still, I'm pretty laid back, and if it did happen it's probably just infrequent enough that I just put it down to bugs and don't let it bother me (ie, I forget about it). I know that I can get annoyed when I have to repeat myself to my kinect though, lol.

Anyone tried the "Rebuild Database" command from within Safe mode? I did. So far, it seems to have fixed a persistent problem I was having since the 2.0 update. Every three or four times, my PS4 would die during the boot-up process. I would then have to manually boot it up.

I read about the Rebuild Database command at GAF (link and instructions below). Apparently, it scans the folders for errors and corrects them -- something like that. Fingers crossed, but so far, it seems to have fixed the problem.

I'm just pointing it out for anyone who may have a minor, recurrent glitch of some kind. GAFfers report that it helped them with a variety of minor issues.

edit: this didn't fix my problem, btw. I had to re-initialize the PS4.

I thought the button customisation feature was pretty exciting until I noticed the touchpad and the gyroscope/accelerometers were missing from the list.

I may be the minority, but I don't think these features are a gimmick at all. I personally believe they are seen as a gimmick because no one wants to take the time to use them over the standard features that's been used since yester year. To me, its like the analog sticks. Had no one took the time to use them properly, they, too, would be seen as a gimmick.

Hopefully an update comes to allow one of the two or both at some point.

They were using really well in 2nd son. using the controller to paint was cool as s***.

all right big update is tomorrow. Man I really hope the suspend resume works well. Now they just need to let me delete s*** form the library.

I wonder if a patch can address the fan, so that it isn't running so much during games. Seems excessive.
