PS4 or X1? How about the Wii U?

Your a trip

In my opinion Nintendo games in general are reviewed with an incredible amount of bias/nostalgia, but Mario platformers are particularly bad. What other game/company gets away with having pretty much zero story these days? What other game/company gets away with ancient gameplay mechanics?

Let alone.. having no story or modern gameplay mechanics (outside of simulation style games obviously.)

It's like an automatic 10-15% reduction for most games to lack a story for instance.

Let alone how people complain about milking, then turn around and get excited to run and jump yet again in a cartoon world.... "finding stars" = HOURS OF FUN???

I'm not personally swayed by reviews.. and I generally don't "care" about them.. but I am slightly annoyed about the hyperbole Nintendo receives... it's very difficult to discuss anything Nintendo related because it's like they are measured under entirely different terms.. but Nintendo fans LOVE to directly compare them.

Mario paltformer #22 = best reviewed game of a generation.. yet... where are people even discussing playing these games? I mean I get it.. not much to discuss.. "OMG running and jumping was so fun for the 100,000th time!"

Developers that create fun games. C'mon Bunz, games do not always demand a story. I dunno, Game Play is king to me and Nintendo nails it every time.

Also The Wonderful 101 was reviewed.. just okay and it is a spectacular game. Just difficult in its own ways, for example: Paying attention to the character you are actively controlling to avoid damage can prove taxing at first.

I don't find them remotely fun, part of my personal problem with the games.

And yeah.. gameplay is king.. I like games with lots of gameplay..

Isn't this conversation about Mario platformers? lol.. you run.. and you jump.. and stuff...

I'm not telling people not to enjoy them or like them.. but I really think even "fans" BS themselves about it. How many weekends have you spent putting 10+ hour days into a mario platformer?

I never really see a REAL description of the "Fun" to be had.. it's usually some hyperbolic nod to nostalgia.. or some "magic".. it's like watching Ancient Aliens reading a Mario platformer review..

But my comments are more about how the games are hypocritically praised/reviewed than my personal opinion.. I look past scores for games.. but my point is: The cards are like reversed for Nintendo.. a game can be chalk full of gameplay and can't score over an 85 because of some lack of story... whereas games can get 10/10's for being nothing more than movies with simple controls.. Nintendo brings really neither to the table.. but gets the 10's.

Agreed.

But despite 9/10 and 5/5 ratings many Nintendo games get from game sites, it's not affecting sales. Wii sales tanked at the end as the fad wore off and Wii U sales have been dreadful from right day one. I don't see Wii U making a big comeback when more Marios, Zeldas, and Wii U Fits get released. It should get better, but I'm just basing that on the fact it really can't get worse.

Platformers typically get a free pass regarding storylines because they typically don't have any. Trying to get from point A to point B jumping around collecting stars or hopping on enemies to make chain sequence bonuses makes no sense really. And the quest to save person XYZ is just a tossed in goal for sake of having an end.

I agree that Mario games in particular do seem to get reviewed easier than other games. However Zelda games on the other hand really are the masterpieces that the scores show.

So are the Mario games imo. I don't care for the "Its Nintendo so every reviewer that reviews videogames is biased"
excuse people like to throw around.

I like the Wii U, never regretted the purchase.

Now more games are coming I am excite. :D

People can ignorantly diss Nintendo's platformers but in reality nobody does them better as the ACROSS the board super high reviews show.
Some people's taste just sucks.
:p
