PS5 News + Speculation

Oh, you’re one of those crepes guys huh, think you’re better than us because it’s a smaller package, portable and dedicated fan base huh? Some fruits taste better than others when in the caverns of the checkerboards. :p

Checkerboard waffles are not true waffles!

It is childish to complain that you didn't get something that was never offered in the first place IMO. I never expected a thing, if they were going to have PS5 news they'd have had it on their twitter and the gaming press would have been invited. CES hasn't been a gaming event for a long time and the fact that Sony themselves never promoted it as having anything to do with PlayStation should have been a dead giveaway, the fact that we got what we did surprised me. Like you I wish we got more because I'm impatient lol but I'm not going to complain that we didn't.

competition am cry

You do IF support for the product dwindled...
just saying

Sure. But Microsoft seems to be profitable with their own strategy.
But to be clear, I do hope that they’re more competitive this gen.

They had a nice buzz around the Series X announcement. Then get pummeled by Sony’s logo. Lol

Yikes
This is exactly why I post more Xbox stuff than than PS stuff. It’s cool everyone is excited for new consoles, but if roles were reversed and MS had only showed a new logo while Sony her already showed the actual PS 5, they would be crucified relentlessly.

Sony shows a simple logo and people go nuts.

Sony got slammed by a lot of xbox fans for showing a "lazy logo" lol so yeah s*** happens to both sides and some of it is really stupid.

As far as MS showing the box and Sony showing a logo why would Sony have any reason to adjust their plans to react to what MS does? When you are a market leader you don't let a company who hasn't even sold half as many units as you have set your agenda. If anyone expected Sony to scrap their plans and react to what MS did at the game awards they are overestimating MS's place in this. MS has never been a market leader in this business, even at MS's best they haven't matched Sony at their worst (PS3 technically sold about 3 million more than the 360 but that difference is basically a tie IMO)

If Sony showed the PS5 at The Game Awards and MS showed the xbox logo at CES would some people have slammed MS? maybe but that would have probably been based on the fact that MS are the ones that need to make a bigger splash right now, they need to move the needle but honestly I don't think anyone other than forum console warriors would have given two s***s either way.

Hardly comparable here. Everyone is pretty much saying the PS5 has won before it has launched. Even the media.
Even though I believe the PS5 will come out on top next generation I don't believe it will be to the extent we see between the PS4 and the Xbox One.
Fanboys saying it is a done deal is one thing, but media siding is another and I think that is damaging to the industry IMHO.
One part because it makes light of the advances of the competition to better their product and also because it paints an inherent bias.

Fanboys, media...Is there any real difference these days? These 2 together create the snake eating its tale.

I think it will be a larger gap.
Nope. The gap will likely shrink. Although, we should all wait till E3 and see what both are offering. Hardware wise they will likely be close. MS need a good showing on the new games front, they need a next gen game akin to hype of a Halo or Gears.

MS has had 3 generations and they've never beaten Sony, the only time they came close was when Sony launched a year later and had a ton if pricing and messaging problems out of the gate with the PS3. The media isn't telling people anything they don't already know, if someone's feelings get hurt because the poor little $1 Trillion + underdog MS won't be able overtake the monolithic $73 Billion Sony that's on them lol.

Seriously though, there are plenty of pro MS sites, twitter users and blogs etc they aren't hurting for places for their fans to go and hear what they want. Reporting on some silly social media score is hardly putting their thumb on the scale.

If we were starting fresh it may have a shot at shrinking but with BC and digital purchases being a thing that's going to keep a lot of people from jumping ship, I don't think either side is going to see a ton of growth unless they bring people in who weren't buying consoles this gen. I really don't see MS fans jumping to PlayStation or PS fans jumping to Xbox and with consoles potentially starting out around $500 you won't see many looking to be multi console owners for a while either. I know some may want to bring up Lockhart but if someone is buying a new PS5 at full price does anyone think they'd be tempted to buy an Xbox console that's going to offer an inferior experience? Most people who like Halo and Gears are already xbox fans and I don't see those titles tempting people away at this stage especially with would be considered an entry level next gen console.

When you look at the logo thing, it's basically saying Sony wins because it's Sony, just like people who are enthralled with that silver Apple logo. I'll wait until Digital Foundry does the analysis to see if it's a true 4K60 logo or if they're falling it with temporal reconstruction or checkerboards.

It will shrink provided the hardware is close and the exclusives see a marked improvment. BC and digital libraries are not important to the masses. Most gamers gamers don't even finish games, much less care about playing them again.

We will see.

Price disadvantage is a killer

I posted how XB can turn the tide.

It's not cause it's Sony it's because it's PlayStation. People underestimate brand power something I been saying since last gen..

MS showed XSX in more ways than just a logo and it's views dwarfed xbo's showing but got destroyed in comparison to Sony showing a simple, ugly PlayStation 5 logo.

PlayStation is gaming's biggest brand.
