PS5 News + Speculation

I hate to be that guy...but it does say 56 CU's for Dev kit and 52 for retail so yes....it will be lower. If this is the case it will be a ballpark Vega 56.
That's what I figured. The leak" says the clocks are lower on retail as well.

Personally I think next gen will be the last tech leap forward I'll care about, and even then, I'm not all that interested. It feels very much like diminishing returns at this point. Decreased load times, better FPS, some level of ray tracing ... hard to get terribly excited about that, personally. I mean, it's fine, but it feels more like a little nudge forward, rather than a leap. These things probably matter more to people who focus a lot on the technical performance of games, but I've never been like that.

Because you see it the wrong way. There's a lot you can do with power.

1. Smart AI
2. Character damage
3. Level interaction brought to the next level.
4. Next gen animation
5. Attention to detail
6. We can fake CGI Graphics
7. Bullet damage (current gen was a big leap in that area aswell like for an example RE2 Remake)
8. Open any door
9. Move any object.

Current gen was a big leap in every way. Everything just felt more alive not only characters but the world's too. Sorry but lasst gen is no where close. I can't imagine what Ps5 will do.

Seems like most people are pretty happy with what's been revealed so far. I'm not a tech guy, so I can't make an evaluation myself.

You are gunna be eating those words. The power this thing seems to have will result in far more than just better load times, FPS and bump in graphics. The SSD alone is massive, the HDD the last 2 generations has been a limiting factor.

The potential this machine has should excite you.

Telling me I'm "seeing it wrong" or I "should" be feeling something I'm not feeling doesn't work; you guys should know that. If you're excited about all the potential, that's great. I feel differently about it. For me, I feel some mild anticipation, but that's about it.

I'm sure as we get closer to fall 2020, the hype will build, and to some degree, I'll get sucked in. I'm not there now, though.

Maybe it should work. Maybe you should expand your vision beyond the humdrum expectation of the over used "diminishing returns" mind set that isn't even a thing. Video games can make massive jumps and gamechanging leaps, we are far from the "diminishing returns" point.

Hell the 3D audio alone can be massive to the experience and immersion.

Maybe it should, but it doesn't. Maybe you should worry less about technical upgrades and think about upgrading your interpersonal communication skills.

I just think you overlook what Ps5 can do. There's a LOT your missing.

It's just my perspective. If other people have different views, that's fine. I'm not into pushing my opinions on others. There isn't a "right" way to see this. There are a lot of possible perspectives. At the end of the day, we're dealing in opinion, preference, and values, not some kind of objective truth. I don't think we all need to agree or see things the same way. I don't think that's possible or desirable.

If other people are pumped and enthusiastic, cool. I won't try to change your mind or get you to see things the same way I do. That's not my style. I'm just expressing how I feel, at this point in time. It may change. I'm sure by this time next year, the media will be dominated by discussions of tech specs and enthusiastic predictions of things to come. I'll probably get swept up in it like everyone else.

And to be clear, I want to have the best version of the Playstation available, and I know this will be a significant upgrade, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm hearing it'll be in the range of 12 to 13 TF, which is about 3x the Pro, then you add some more to that because of the CPU, SSD, etc. That's a nice upgrade. I'll buy it. I'm just not feeling "woohoo!" about it, that's all.

I get it, it's hard to get overly hyped when it's all numbers right now and we haven't seen any games yet. I'm hyped for it but I'll be much more so when I see games that are made for that console being played.

To be fair, it’s better to have low expectations and be pleasantly surprised rather than hype ourselves up and be disappointed.

You're doing the internet wrong. You're supposed to have low expectations for your least-preferred console and troll those fans.

Those are realistic expectations. If that stuff doesn't improve There a no point in upgrading..
We are Currently faking CGI in games like HZD what makes it won't improve? TLOU2 brought realism in video games to the next level. It's animation, attention to detail, character damage, level ineraction and bullet damage is something you never get all one game but ND somehow did it. I can't imagine what Ps5 can do.

I think you miss understood. I'm not telling you how to think or feel. You came off as uninformed so I listed more examples of what they could do. Nothing more nothing less.

You started with, "You see it the wrong way." That is literally telling me how to think. It's not a smart approach, if you want to persuade or even be listened to.

Putting that aside, I looked at the list you posted, and nothing there was a surprise to me. "Increased attention to detail, better animations, better bullet damage, ability to open more doors...." Yes, I understand that. An increase in power will bring all that with it, at least potentially. That's not news to me. It doesn't change my opinion.

Yes, I'm sure that's part of it. Maybe once I see Horizon or Death Stranding for the PS5 or something like that, I'll get hyped. We'll see.

I think I'm just less impressed by visual and performance upgrades than most people here are. For instance, the jump from PS4 to Pro was nice but nothing mindblowing. The TF ratio difference (~ 3 to 4x the power) will be roughly the same size as the jump we're looking at next gen (I realize other factors such as SSD and CPU make that an underestimate). The jump from Pro and X was underwhelming to me, despite the hype. The jump from 1080p to 4K was significant but not that huge a deal, either. I spent about $3000 on all that, and I'm not enjoying games any more than I did before. I may be enjoying them less.

Don't get me wrong -- each of those have been nice upgrades -- but they haven't been game changers or mind blowers. So that's part of where I'm coming from. It's just been my experience. Lots of hype leading to a purchase, followed by temporary pleasure, followed by "eh, that's nice but not a big deal."

Another part is that I'm just not someone who is all that bothered by technical imperfections or interested in the details of graphics or performance. I own a smartphone that is several generations behind the times, and I don't even use it as a smartphone. My PC is many years out of date. I don't care about having the best and most up-to-date tech. As long as it does the job I need it to do, that's good enough for me. That's just how I am. Gaming is the only area in my life where I keep up with the tech, but even there, I am less interested than most people. It's just not a big part of what I value or care about.

Anyhow, you probably don't need me to explain myself at length. I'm just having my morning coffee and figured I'd expand a little.

This is from a Reddit leaker who apparently called Sony being a no-show at E3 before it was announced:

I will say that the jump for the Pro really doesn't impress, but going from the One to the One X was huge. So much so that I look at the One like a friggn' 360, lol.

The other thing to consider are that so much power was sucked up in the chase for resolution. Now it's been (generally) reached, they can start using that overhead for the actual games. Couple that with an actual CPU upgrade.... Well, I think this next gen will be pretty special.

That said- I'm not super-excited yet. I absolutely have to see what they are doing. I know I'll be getting it, but I need to see to get my blood up.
