PS5 News + Speculation

I know the rumble triggers on the X1 were supposed to be a big deal but I've never really noticed them to be honest, maybe the games I've played just don't use the feature. The stuff that's being done with the PS5 controller sounds more interesting IMO, the tension thing is a cool idea, I just hope it works well in practice. I'd love to feel more resistance when using a bow and arrow vs a trigger on a gun.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order actually supports the rumble triggers and works quite nicely, nothing revolutionary but adds an extra sense of immersion whilst playing

Cool I'll be playing it soon, I have it downloaded on my One X but I'm still playing the crap out of Dragon's Dogma on my Pro lol.

I love the rumble in the triggers, it’s a great enhancement to many of the games that I have played. They even have a tension/resistance in the force push in Star Wars.

Sony Corp started to commercialize an ReRAM (resistive random-access memory) being developed by Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp.

The ReRAM is targeted at "storage-class memories (SCMs)," non-volatile memories that feature a higher speed than NAND flash memory and fill the gap between DRAM and NAND flash memory. If an ReRAM for SCMs is commercialized, it will be a product in a new category for the Sony group, meaning a new business.

Specifically, Sony aims to commercialize an ReRAM developed based on Sony Semiconductor Solutions' cross point-type ReRAM suited for integration. In June 2017, Sony announced it as a technology that can realize 100-Gbit-class integration at 2017 Symposium on VLSI Technology (VLSI Symposium) (See related article).

At Flash Memory Summit (FMS) 2019, the world's largest-class event on flash memory, which took place from Aug 6 to 8, 2019, in Santa Clara, the US, Sony announced a driver technology for ReRAM, indicating that the company is moving forward with the development for commercialization.

As a memory for SCMs, there is Intel Corp's "Optane" non-volatile memory using the "3D XPoint" technology. While the Optane has a large presence in the SCM market, Sony emphasizes that its ReRAM has a smaller power consumption and can be more easily densified than the cross point-type phase-change memory (PCM) used by the Optane. Sony plans to release a module product at the time of commercialization as in the case of the Optane.

The looks that only a PlayStation fan could love... again.

Actually, the Pro is probably my favorite design, except the hidden buttons, which is very dumb.

Notice that all of the tech journalists are saying that this design will likely change in the consumer version, and that this design is just to make the devkits stackable? Well then, why does this look basically identical to the console patent images that Sony filed? I find it extremely difficult to believe that Sony patented a devkit-only device, but left the actual consumer design up in the air.

I actually kind of like the design. I'm just afraid of young kids putting their drinks in that conveniently open V-shaped space.

Well you've got some experience with kids using liquids of another kind on your consoles so I don't blame you for thinking that way lol.

I like the fact that you can place hot chocolate in the valley of the v, devs in cold regions must love it. I’d heat up my cup of noods there.

Nice sheath, but I want to see the dagger before committing.

I've always turned rumble off on any console controller that had the feature as for me rumble is a hindrance.

It's funny how some on twitter are trying to make this a story, look how this one is worded.

Now if it's a PS5 exclusive how the hell is it also supposed to play on PS4? lol
As someone pointed out after I replied to the tweet you can't play Xbox One exclusives on the 360, WTF is wrong with gaming "journalists" these days?

It's just crazy to me that people are talking about this like it's new, also a game that comes out on Scarlett and X1 isn't a Scarlett game you can play on an X1 it's an xbox cross gen game and cross gen games have been a thing for a while now lol.

Good to hear all the positive impressions of PS5 hardware. That's been encouraging. Developers really seem to appreciate it.

I did. And actually kind of hoped for some. Especially the games on the borderline like the Last of Us 2 and Sucker Punch’s game.

Those games will be playable on PS5 due to backward compatibility.

TLOU2 will in all likelihood get an upgrade for PS5 in some form. I believe he said they would have some PS5 games not made for the PS4 not all games wouldn't be. TLOU2 is a PS4 game first so anything beyond that is an upgraded version for the new console. Sony does have a history of releasing big games for hardware that's on the way out though, they released God of War 2 on the PS2 the same year PS3 was launching.
