The only reason I would want a PS5 at this moment is for it to be B/C for all my PS4 games, and to upgrade them like the Xbox does... Yet, I hear many PS4 games are not B/C on PS5, and even far fewer have upgrades

What is Sony doing?

Sony has said the "overwhelming majority" of PS4's 4,000+ games will be playable on PS5.

This was confirmed with a list of games which won't work on PS5, rather than those that will, making it simple to know what works at a glance.

There are some caveats to PS5 backwards compatible functionality - which is explained in the next section - but in short, every PS4 game but the following should work on PS5:

  • DWVR
  • Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Shadow Complex Remastered
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • We Sing
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
  • Shadwen
  • Joe's Diner

Thanks... Good to know all my PS4 games will work.

Now, what about those upgrades? ;)

That would be trickier as Sony's BC system is hardware based. So best would be a boosted PS4 pro specs. You will never get the full extent of the PS5's power unless the title was natively ported over.

Well damn... I better hope Sony gets BluePoint to make a Bloodborne Remake for PS5, and then make Bloodborne 2

That would get me to buy a PS5

So far I've tried out:
  • Spider-Man Remastered - The game looks and runs great in the new Ray Tracing + 60fps mode. I'm really impressed with the graphical upgrades, it's looking quite a bit better than it did on PS4 Pro. I haven't even tried either of the other graphical modes out yet, this one feels and looks great. Love how you're pretty much in the game instantly from the menu.
  • Astro's Playroom - I was worried this might be gimmicky, but it was shockingly fun and well made. I played through the whole thing already.
  • Ghost of Tsushima - Messed around a bit just to see how the PS5 version feels. I'm noticing a lot of the atmosphere better now in 60 fps - falling leaves, sparks and particles from fires, tall grass blowing in the wind, etc. Combat feels extremely responsive now too. Unfortunately I've already platinumed the game, aside from the coop DLC.

Woke up this morning and checked Twitter. PS5 in stock at Target for store pickup, and one available from a store a minute from my house. I click add to cart, and I get it. But... I don't have a target account so I have to do all that first. Once I'm done, my cart is empty. Go to add the PS5 and out of stock.

Hey, how do you feel about the new PS5 interface? Is it responsive and easy to get to where you want to go? On PS4 Pro it could be quite laggy which was annoying but it usually fixed itself in a few seconds. I'm just wondering if that's gone on the new hardware.

Congrats on getting a PS5. I'm not jealous.......not at all.

Extremely fast and snappy. I totally agree that the Pro was starting to feel clunky trying to get through the menus. Some things are in different places, that's going to take a little while to get used to, but everything is extremely responsive.

Days Gone is incredible on PS5
I downloaded it yesterday, looking forward to trying it.. Never played it last gen, cool that there are so many solid games free for PS5 owners.

Never did finish Days Gone. Think I just got burnt out on it. Might give it a shot again on PS5 though if I'm bored.

The image quality is superb and it's a silky smooth 60fps.

I highly recommend Days Gone for anyone that hasn't tried it yet. Its a great stealth/action game but its a slow starter so be patient. It also takes itself very seriously with a grim story so be prepared for that.

Days Gone & Death Stranding don't get the credit they deserve.

I am about half way through Days Gone, which I played on my Pro. It got rather boring. Maybe the second half is better?

Its been a while but for me it took about a dozen or so hours before I was hooked. I really got into the atmosphere of having to sneak around to gather resources for upgrades for both the player and the Bike. And taking down those large nests was a lot of fun and more so if you have a plan on how to deal with the infestation like planting traps or using decoy devices and scoping out an escape route should things get out of your control.

Towards the end I had enough firepower that I didn't need to be as careful with planning and could go in weapons hot. But the planning and execution was my biggest source of fun. Days Gone is a game that I feel requires patience, if you're more into constant action then perhaps something else would be more to your liking like say.......Doom Eternal.

I really hope we get a Last of Us 2 PS5 update soon. I preordered the game, and only played about 45 mins of the intro. Would love to have my first time through the game to have some sort of PS5 enhancments.

Good video post, Tekphan. Although it highlights the huge disparity between Sony & MSFT spending. Sony's current year fiscal spending of $329 million could go a long way, especially if spent very strategically. But its small potatoes in the face of the $7.5 billion dollar check MSFT is writing for the Zenimax acquisition. Not to mention the studio acquisitions and third-party deals. But MSFT deep pockets don't guarantee success or buy talent of which Sony's internal studios have in abundance.

Also, he seems to take a parting shot at MSFT's Gamepass saying "you get what you pay for". But I'm confused as to how that's a negative given that we pay for a subscription based gaming service. So yeah, we're getting exactly what we pay for and many of us are super happy with the service with the only real major complaint being the strain the service is putting on internal HDD storage.

He likes GP so he wasn't knocking it and it's not free right?
I trust Sony's 329 million to produce(COUGH EXCLUSIVE) results over MS spending 7.5 billion netting as good results 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I've never had any luck on PS Direct, but I always try if I'm just sitting at the computer anyway. Anytime I've been in the queue it just sits there and eventually takes me to a "sold out" page. If I'm working anyway I'll leave it up and see what happens, but most seem to drop later in the day now.

Obviously I haven't had any luck with PS Direct either. But I like the queue system where if you get in you're getting a PS5. Unlike Best Buy, Target or Walmart where I've had the console in my cart but was unable to complete purchase.

Ohh well, the hunt continues.
