Have you guys tried transferring your saves from PS4 to PS5?

Why is it so damn annoying and cumbersome? Or maybe I'm just doing it all wrong. LOL.

Finally got around to doing it on some of my older games and I'm scratching my head.
I think it depends on the game. For instance, to transfer my save from Spiderman 2018 over to Miles Morales expansion I had to download Spiderman, then upload my save. Then I had to boot up Miles Morales and download the save file. In contrast, for God of War my save file from the cloud transferred over to my PS5 with ease. Thus why I think the save transfer process is game specific and does not have a system wide approach. Sony's cumbersome approach to save transfers really highlights the convenience and ease of use of MSFT's Smart Delivery.

It was different because it was a PS4 game save to PS5 game save. There is no system approach to that. PS4 saves would all be in the cloud.

I think GT Sport worked as smooth as it did because online was required.

Its weird that the XSX will be detected and transfer an old gen save to the new platform but the PS5 can't, as of yet.

I've read for games like Avengers or FF7 Remake, if you played on PS4 and want to transfer over to the PS5. You'll need both versions installed on the PS5 to do so. Its a mess considering how HDD space conscious we have to be and I hope Sony streamlines the process.

I don't think you need both versions installed. I beat TLoU 2 on the PS4 pro. I recently downloaded TLoU 2 on my PS5 to get the platinum, downloaded my PS4 game save file from the cloud and it worked.

Unfortunately you do need both on the PS5. The only way to access the save transfer feature on PS5 is to download the PS4 version since the process can only be accessed through the PS4 version to upload the save. So you basically need to have downloaded both versions on your PS5 in order to transfer a save from PS4 to PS5.

I was curious so I checked the file size of FF7 Remake on PS4 which is over 80gigs. Obviously we don't yet know the PS5 file size but its already clear that any gamer who wishes to transfer their PS4 save to the PS5 will have a lot of downloading to do before they can play.

This cumbersome process has to be the result of some sort of oversight of some kind related to how the PS5's system works with saves from a previous generation.

That's weird. I didn't need to download the PS4 version of TLoU 2. Just the PS4 game save file. I do have cloud saves automatically backed up before on my PS4 Pro and all my game saves get backed up to the cloud by itself without me doing anything.

When you go to your cloud saves there is a different section for PS5 and PS4 cloud saves. I just selected the PS4 cloud saves and I could download just the PS4 game save file onto my PS5 and I could access it through the game 🤔

Up above Yankee said its something to do with the PS5 version of a PS4 game. So in your case with Last of Us 2 or my experience with God of War saves can be easily accessed via Cloud storage on PS5 since those games don't have a PS5 version. We run into the cumbersome solution of having to download two different versions of the same game when there's an official PS5 release.

Like I said, if you want to transfer your FF7 save to the new PS5 version coming soon. You'll need to download the PS4 version first because you can only access and upload your PS4 save via the save page on the PS4 version. Then after downloading the PS5 version you can then download your PS4 save files.

So lesson here is always have cloud saves back up enabled? Haha.

My FF7 remake PS4 game save is already in the cloud from last year so I wouldn't need to re-download the PS4 full game again.

Just downloaded now on my PS5.

It looks like you can now as per the link below which details the latest update for save migration. Hopefully this is the way forward from now on.

Even without this update, my PS4 game saves all automatically back up to the cloud and I can just download manually whenever I want onto my PS5, at least from all the PS4 older games I've been playing 🤔

Looks like this update only adds that option to the menu for ease of access. If you previously already had saved to the cloud, you'll still be able to download just the PS4 game save file onto your PS5.

As spotted by IGN, the menu for Final Fantasy VII Remake now has an additional option called Upload Save Data. Accessing this will allow players to choose between which save files to upload, which can then be downloaded on the PS5 for use with Intergrade.

No, its not just adding a menu option. Its removing the need to download the PS4 version on to your PS5 for the purpose of transferring your save. With this new update, it allows you to upload your PS4 save of FF7 from your PS4 and then once FF7 PS5 releases you can then download your PS4 save files. Before this update you'd be required to download the PS4 version, then upload the save files, then download the PS5 version and then download the PS4 save file for use with the PS5 version.

When I first downloaded Destiny 2 on my PS5. It downloaded both the PS4 version and the PS5. The only reason I was able to pick up on this was because I noticed my HDD space took a huge hit for what I thought was for one game. Well, it was for one game but two versions of the same game. The same issue popped after the PS5 version of Avengers came out, gamers had to download both versions to migrate their saves to the PS5.

Its something to do with the PS5 version that makes it difficult to transfer save files from PS4 to PS5. I don't blame you or anyone else from being confused because its a confusing mess of a situation and one I don't think Sony engineers thought of prior to release of the console. Hence why no SMART DELIVERY type of system in place like MSFT has where it recognizes the platform you're playing on and downloads the required files for that platform.

Yeah I haven't encountered having to download the PS4 version yet.

Maybe I should have the FF7 remake PS4 version downloaded in case then.

Can you still buy Driveclub on PSN?
I’ve been watching videos of the game on YouTube running on PS5....and how in the hell is that game still better looking than Dirt 5 which was basically made by former devs from Evolution studios?
I don't think you can they shut off everything for it if I remember correctly. It was a great looking game, I didn't care for the gameplay but one thing I have to say is even though it was 30fps it still had a great sense of speed and responsive controls. I'm not a very disciplined player when it comes to racing games so I like the more arcadey kind of racers if play one at all otherwise I'm banging into walls on every turn lol.

It could be easier for sure, I wish it was an automatic thing that happens but unfortunately that's not how it works for now.

Ps saves are in the cloud if you have an active ps+ account, you have six months of clouds saves when you decide to let it lapse/end. With ps+ you don’t have access to cloud saves.

I believe it’s more cumbersome on switch, I’ve never tried it but my brother has with his two switches and said he wanted to toss his switch lol

I really like E3 and how it energizes the gaming community. Its such a fun time for the industry and gamers. I can't wait for the reveals and showcases to debut.

I've been thinking about something. Where's Sony Live Service game? Most publishers have one but from major gaming player "Sony" there's not even the hint of a Live Service game coming. Don't get me wrong I'd like Sony to continue to play to its strengths and keep pumping out great blockbuster games. But they have the talent and resources to make an enduring online game but so far choose not to.

I do remember some attempts years ago like with that online portal they had, the name escapes me but we could create an avatar and roam around this world they created but I don't remember having much to do. Sony also dipped a toe into large scale competitive shooters like MAG and Warhawk, both of which didn't really go mainstream. I guess those past experiences soured their appetite for a persistent online game world that requires a lot of manpower to maintain.

I would consider GT Sport a Live Service game. It's been an ongoing game with monthly added content (new cars, tracks, added content to campaign), tournaments (online and in real life), as well as microtransactions. They never stopped adding content and continue to have tournaments even today. You can go in and click on LIVE and watch their Olympic tournaments as well.

I suspect that will trickle over into GT7, whenever that comes out.

Good point, GT Sport didn't even enter my head but you're right about it getting constant updates.

Can you imagine a persistent online game set in the Killzone universe where players can choose to play as either the Earth Alliance Forces or the militaristic Helghast Forces. They could include competitive large scale battles against the two opposing forces as well as co-op squad based missions against A.I. controlled opposing forces, add in a loot system and some kind of class based upgrade path and I can see something like that being highly addictive. Microtransactions could play a role of some kind but hopefully nothing to abusive.

Of course if a game were to ever come I'd firmly be on the side of the Helghast. I always thought a game set from their perspective would be great since they are originally from Earth but broke away to chart their own destiny away from the Earth Sphere of influence. They aren't evil in the traditional sense.

You know me Buster, I am a shooter guy. You had me at Killzone. I would take a live service Killzone. I hope GG drops Horizon now and goes back to KZ. I see a ton of potential with the game, including your thoughts on making it a service game as well.
