I would love for them to add a system wide mono audio option. Those of us who have lost hearing in one ear (my left ear has about 5% hearing remaining due to Menieres (right ear is at perfect hearing), can't hear the stereo/surround when the voices and effects are in the bad ear when using a headset. Mono resolves this for us.

I never knew that's what mono was for, cool to know.

New PS5 System Update 21.02-04.02.00 Released by Sony; Improves System Performance

Sony has rolled out PS5 System update 21.02-04.02.00, improving the console’s system performance.

The new firmware update for Sony’s next-gen console weighs in at roughly 900MB and appears to be a minor one. Release notes are almost nonexistent and only mentioned improved system performance. No further details about the contents of this new system update have been shared, although we’re pretty sure that it packs some under-the-hood changes.

Lots of info here.

So what do you think makes PS5 'cool'?

It is, first of all, the games. You have to come back to that. I said this at the time, and I stand by it, the launch line-up of game was the best we'd ever had, and I'd submit probably the best any console platform has ever had at launch. I think the work that we've done since then with Returnal and Ratchet & Clank, and also MLB: The Show in the States, which is a fine game. And the pipeline of game that we have coming is just fantastic. It's by far the strongest that we've ever had for any of our consoles, and I can't wait to see these games starting drop one after another. Horizon, God of War, GT7... I think that is ultimately what defines us.

Best lineup is a lie.

  • Auto HDR Tone Mapping[SUP]4[/SUP]: With Auto HDR Tone Mapping, the HDR settings will be optimized instantly during PS5 initial setup. The PS5 will automatically recognize individual BRAVIA XR TV models and select the best HDR setting for the TV accordingly. With the optimized HDR tone mapping level to customers' BRAVIA display specification, they'll see crucial details and colors even in high contrast scenes. For instance, users will get the addition of detailed objects on the track in Gran Turismo™ 7[SUP]5[/SUP][SUP],6[/SUP] so they know just how to make their next move.
  • Auto Genre Picture Mode[SUP]4,7[/SUP]: BRAVIA XR TVs can detect whether users are playing a game or watching movies and shows. With Auto Genre Picture Mode, the TV automatically switches into Game Mode when gaming, which minimizes input lag to make the action more responsive, or to Standard Mode when watching movies via a streaming service or from an Ultra HD Blu-ray™ disc on the PS5, which shifts focus to picture processing for a more expressive picture.

Software updates, available by the end of January 2022, on both PS5 and BRAVIA XR TVs are required to access Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode.[SUP]4[/SUP]

So fake Dolby Vision without implementing Dolby Vision.

Well, since I never got to play Ghost of Tsushima that's what I picked up for my PS5. I am absolutely loving it.

As for the console itself, I really like it so far. The only things I don't like are the battery life of the controller (which I think is an awesome controller) and the lack of 1440p support. When I play multi-player shooters I like to use my PC monitor so no support there sucks.

Was Ghost of Tsushima this stunning looking on the PS4? For being a PS4 game it blows me away. I would be content if this was as good as games looked, plus it's smooth as butter.

It also looked very nice there (one of the best looking for the PS4) but on the PS5 it's just enhanced even better.

Still has some parts that looked too plastic-ky to me but the superb art direction more than covers for it.

Ghost of Tsushima is just amazing. Looks great, plays great and has a great story. Definitely one of my favorite SP games of all time. I even played it on performance mode on PS5 and it still looks great and plays so well at 60fps.

They should just use AA batteries for controllers and let us use rechargeable eneloops or something. The battery life on these is terrible.
Have you turned the haptics to medium in the settings? saves some battery life there, I get a few days between charges, I don't play more than a few hours at a time but it's still noticeably longer than the DS4's battery life while doing more things.

I don't really notice battery 🔋 because everytime I finish playing I just put the DS5 back on the controller charging stand 🤣
