I've noticed over the last week or two that something was wrong with my PS5 controller. No matter what I was playing my character on-screen would always lurch over to the left even when my hands were at rest and not pushing on the left analog stick.

Then it hit me, after about two years with this launch controller it has succumbed to the phenomenon known as"Stick-Drift". I guess it makes sense with all the gaming I do on PS5. It just not something I've had to deal with in a long time. Luckily for me I had a brand new spare controller ready to go since I had no choice when I first purchased my PS5 and was only able to do so in a bundle but that is helping me now so I guess the forced bundle deals aren't all that bad.

I'm just glad I'm back in control and my on-screen characters aren't acting like they are possessed. Seriously, not long ago I went to get something to drink while gaming and when I got back and seen my character walking and twitching by itself I thought there was some vengeful gaming spirit in my apartment. :surprise:

Sorry to hear that. They need to fix this.

Luckily I have had none of that so far. I do have 3 extra controllers if I need when I bought them on sale for 4 player games lol.

I'm not sure how big of a problem it is for gamers at scale. But in my opinion two years of heavy use before "Stick-Drift" appears doesn't seem so out of the ordinary. I'm just glad I had a spare because it was driving my crazy.

Just increase deadzone setting in game (or on the dash if that is something Playstation offers) until it stops moving on its own. Still plenty of life left in that controller.

Hmmm, never thought of that. Thanks!!

I didn't trash my old controller but instead placed it in the box I got the new one out of. I was going to throw it out but I'll hold on to it thanks to your suggestion. The new controller works perfectly but it needs to be broken in, everything is all stiff now but its nothing gaming won't fix after a short time.

I replaced soooo many PS4 controllers last gen bcause of this, I'm sure you heard me complain about controllers in Destiny 2 hundreds of times.

2 years of good use before drifting definitely seems like an improvement over last gen.
