No sh!t because they aren't that crazy. To be honest, the PS5 won't sustain that in most cases either. It will be way too hot. The upclock reeks of desperation, if you ask me.
you know what is going to be crazy when the ps5 is running that this "10TF boost mode", it will down the road dry out the thermal paste and the performance will start to tank.

That isn't what you said. You said, "more than double the install size." Which was flatout wrong.

I didn't realize gt was a 100GB install, so that specific reference was using the wrong comparison. There's still no real world situation where a game will load 100 GB from disc during gameplay in a minute in the next decade.

I'm not asking the wrong question. It is a great question, going by your comments they spent extra money on something that has no real world benefit. Which we know is unlikely due to the fact they are always trying to build these consoles as cheaply as possible.

It has a real world benefit, in loading up the game or filling up RAM for transitions it for installs. What I dispute is that there is ever a gameplay reason for sustained even 2GB/sec in a system with 16 GB of RAM.

We have no idea how big next gen games will be, or how large worlds will be. Hell, building game worlds could change massively due not needing to mask loading times. Imagine GTA5 where every building is accessable, sewer system is all accessable.Imagine Division 1 where all DLC wasn't seperate and was just one huge interconnected world. Not to mention VR

Problem is people are only thinking in basic old ways. No game has ever been created with this kind of accessabilty in mind. Devs are saying it is game changind. Cerny already demoed how movement can be effected.

The xsx has 1 TB. That's less than 10 minutes streaming from disc (2 GB/sec for 512 seconds). That's pretty much a cap on the game size, then.

They're not going to be playing the game from disk. They need to get assets from it quickly, not be in a continuous read for seconds at a time. If you load the whole neighborhood in one second (their claim) or even five (below worst case XSX comparison) is not significant - because you will spend minutes in that area.

There is nothing wrong with that DF tweet. Using your own logic, you can also say that not saying they are there means they aren't there. the whole point of the tweet is to illustrate the fact that we still don't know, even after the whole tech breakdown event.

We know it's RDNA 2, we just don't know if they omitted certain features or just decided not to talk about them because they wanted to focus on other things.

Yeah I'm sure you have this all figured out and they have no idea what they are doing lol. Seriously though go read some of the posts by people who seem to actually get what's going on, too many of us here seem to keep focusing on the way consoles have always worked in the past and they are doing something a little different.

I’m genuinely excited for what’s to come. I agree that these super fast SSD’s are going to be a real game changer in what devs are going to be able to do. Not just as far as quicker loading but as mentioned in the long post jinca posted, much more detailed game worlds. I’d love it if we can go into more buildings in GTA6, who knows what the new Elder Scrolls will be like? The future looks very bright for all of us who love our games and in these crazy times, even Just the thought of what’s to come is providing much needed relief from stress and worry.

Saw this write up, it's pretty long but interesting.

And that is why I am not excited right now. As great as it all sounds, it is a gen that needs to be experienced. Hopefully we see some good gameplay soon, then i'll get excited.

I agree with a lot of that, but it still feels like a fluff piece. Some of those design decisions are not just based on HDD limitations, but processing ones. Also, Meridian in Zero Dawn doesn't have that many NPCs walking around and NPC count would be a CPU thing anyway if everything I remember from Ass Creed Unity is true..

lol, and you will still get elevators and bridges because they exist for continuity- they will just be shorter or you can run across instead of walk (ie, load faster).

It will be nice not to have those forced walk and talk sessions like Gears had on 360.

I don't think it's a fluff piece at all, the guy is just trying to explain to people why the assumptions they are making are wrong and giving examples of what could be different because of the choices that were made. He spends more time talking about what Sony's doing because they are the one's who are doing something different, we all pretty much get what MS is doing because it's basically the same thing that's always been done so there isn't much of an explanation needed.

Yeah we need to start seeing actual gameplay of next gen games that take advantage of the things they are talking about, I think that'll be when a lot of people really get excited. I already am but I always get hyped when a new gen is coming, hopefully we see some gameplay very soon.

This could be the first major gen sice the switch from 2D to 3D.

Don’t know who this is, but pretty interesting video.

Dude started by saying SeX more powerful by brute force. It's got just as many features for efficiency and nuance. Not sure why this narrative exists. Just because Sony is using multiplier tech doesn't mean MS isn't.

Edit: dude also seems to factor in 3d audio like the SeX doesn't have a dedicated chip for that, too. This is a tech guy? He treats it like the X is built off-the-shelf...

Same delusions of fan boys that saw the second coming of the cloud and hidden tech of the xbox one. It's not a mental illness but you could definitely see a mentally ill person behave in the same way.

I keep hearing they will make types of games they couldn't before because of this SSD... sounds like hyperbole to me. I will believe it when I see it. Fewer walk and talk scenes and less elevators, sure.

I'm curious if the "same perfornce" is with or without Ray Tracing. If it is with then what kind of difference is there in visual quality.

I think that is more a play on words. In reality it would build games far less restricted. Which, technically, you couldn't make on PS4. Hell , just something like sense of speed in Gran Turismo would be a good basic idea

What about what I said was incorrect?

I didn’t see anything wrong with your comment. And I’m more of an Xbox guy. But own all of them.

I personally think the industry works a little better with Xbox having an edge in power. They need something as an advantage to compete, if you call being outsold by 100 million competing.

Hopefully MS makes major strides in regards to exclusives. I think they will. But I also don’t expect the new IP’s to be universally loved.

No new IP is universally loved. Not even the behemoth know as GTA 5 is universally loved. But yeah, esclusives is their big issue..
