PS5 Pro - 2024?

There is no way a PS5 Pro is coming in 2024. Sony or 3rd party have barely made games for the current PS5. They had 2 years of big supply issues. Just had their biggest unit selling year ever.

What is the PS5 and XSX pro versions even going to have as a selling point?
The PS5 Pro box will have 16K instead of 8K.

Hearing conflicting reports on whether the Pro is coming or not

Expects the APU to be 350mm and not reach 400mm. 60 compute units.

Cannot compare teraflops directly, due to different architecture

Focus on improving raytracing, outlines patents that allow more efficient use of path tracing, filed by Sony. Expects over 2 times the ray tracing capability.

Expects a DLSS style system to upscale at even higher quality than current standards.

I can't see myself investing in a Pro considering how weak this generation has been with games. We are still stuck in cross gen.

Let’s take bets, what week I’m this year will it be announced? My guess, second week of November….but probably the first week of September

Whenever their next showcase State of Play is. Possibly end of Sept or beginning of Oct.

I can't see the Twitter post but I think I'd only be interested if it could retroactively increase the FPS and dynamic resolution of games that have already released. I'm assuming most of the time that it would require some tweaking from the devs to take advantage of it, so it just depends how onboard they are.

Last time we had a mid-gen upgrade, the launch consoles were comically under-powered. Remember we had games at 640 and 720p while 1080 was standard. Now? These consoles are more than enough for most gamers. The people who want 120 fps and crazy visuals will go PC anyway.

To be fair it's still like that. It's just that upscaling technologies are much better this time around to make up the difference. IMHO there shouldn't be sub native 4K games out there at this point.

I've literally seen quite a few 1080p or even Lower res games on Series X and PS5. 1080p should be related to Series S titles.

It's been what, 2 and a half years? I can't see it being announced for another 2 years. Maybe a slim?

Sales are still so strong, why introduce a new console that could have lower margins if the competition doesn't seem interested in introducing a new system in the short term?

I can see why they'd want a pro, it'd be for enthusiasts, with the PS5 likely getting a slim model this fall they can probably drop the price down to what the digital edition is currently in every market. That'll give them a year at that lower default price and introduce a Pro next year at what will likely be $200 more, it won't be meant to replace the PS5 or become their biggest seller it'll just be something for people who they want to keep from jumping to PC.

I doubt it’ll get a 100 dollar reduction, maybe 50. Hell, if they wanted to they can keep it at the same price and people wouldn’tbat an eye. Sony has no incentive to do so, as they haven’t yet with the current one. It’s been, what, through three, technically five, different revisions with its intervals.

The current digital PS5 is $399 that's what I based that price off of, it wouldn't be a reduction at all. They are removing hardware (disc drive) and likely going to use a less expensive cooling. Price drops outside of the US would probably just put the console back to where it was before they increased price, that or just default to the current digital edition price.

It'd be kind of hard to justify charging the same for a digital only console when you've removed hardware from it.

If you think the codename has some form of familiarity, you’re right. Sony has used The Matrix codenames in the past, with the PlayStation 4 Pro under the codename ‘Neo’ and PlayStation VR under ‘Morpheus’.

It’s understood that Trinity has been in development since early 2022, with sources citing that although the rumours of a canceled PlayStation 5 Pro project are always “fun to read”, Trinity has been the only project in the works for the Pro model. Despite dates being tentative, it’s understood that demo events for the PS5 Pro are already ongoing, with the majority of studios receiving development kits by late November 2023.

Although the Pro’s specs were difficult to pin down, admittingly due to my lack of technological prowess, sources have stated that Trinity with have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory.

As for the consoles performance targets and as to be expected, the PlayStation 5 Pro will be targeting improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, a new ‘performance mode’ for 8K resolution, and accelerated ray tracing.

Whether or not a PlayStation 5 Pro console is desired enough in the current market remains to be seen, but as of writing, the PlayStation 5 Pro is in development and is targeting a November 2024 release date.

Trinity appears to be PlayStation’s last bits of major hardware for this generation and after reporting on almost everything from the DualSense Edge Controller (via Try Hard Guides), to Project Q and PlayStation’s new wireless earbuds (via Insider Gaming), the next time you hear on a PlayStation hardware report from me will likely be on the PlayStation 6 – Which is currently targeting a 2028 release date.

It makes me laugh when I see people on other forums adt like this is a mistake, it's not meant to be a replacement for the PS5 just like the Pro wasn't a replacement for the PS4. It's for the enthusiast portion of the market who may have a bit more disposable income and is willing to spend it, It also keep people engaged.

What if it’s just a new bundle or collectors variant?

If they can launch with a bunch of high profile games already optimized it would be well worth it. Games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, Hogwarts, etc running at locked 60 fps in their quality/raytracing modes would be great.

Pass for me. Games look fine on the base PS5. Don't know what a Pro version could offer me.
