I am or was a fan of Tim Schafer. I watched a full clip of his GDC panel on puzzle design, & have all his key points on my pasteboard. He then went on to break every one of his rules in Boken age. The game is just not fun, no clear direction & poor puzzle

Is Psychonauts for series X, the visuals is super underwhelming.
It's been in development for a while. Was built as an Xbox One game, so it'll be interesting to see what Series X improvements are. Maybe nothing more than Res/Framerate.

This is footage from last year. If you're looking for graphics, then I can understand it's underwhelming. But I think the game's charm, artstyle and writing will make it a fun game.

Wow, after seeing this, I feel I am a bit harsh on the visuals. The visual is a bit cool. This looks actually cool, like inception. Thanks for sharing.

For those that have never played the first one, the game is a 3D platformer where you start off at a Psychic Summer Camp, and the lead character (Raz) longs to be a Paychonaut, like his heroes. After the real Paychonauts start going missing, you're skills of entering people's minds to figure out what happened to them are put to the test. The levels are presented as a 3D platformer inside their themed minds, with tasks of clearing out mental "cobwebs" and collecting their mental "baggage". The more fun the personality you enter is, the more fun the level. The more disturbing the person's mind, the more disturbing the level is, and so-on.

It's a real pity that so many people missed the first one. The humor is really top notch, and the style is just so creative and fantastic. There was a level where you were inside a matador velvet painting and my favorite is when you enter a security guards head and learn about the "Milkman Conspiracy", which takes you through a 1950s paranoia, upside down world.

Not kidding when I say that this game was best played on Xbox. I downloaded the PS version on PS4, and it's not good, in comparison. Namely, the gameplay feels off. That version is a crappy remaster of the PlayStation port. Remember PORTS? Just putting that out there.

Is this game Multiplat? MS owns the studio now. Shouldn't this be in the Xbox section?

That exactly what I was thinking.
Sony's PC games are in the PC thread and not in here.

Even if it was exclusive now, I started the thread on 2017, when it was planned as a multi-platform title. A mod would have had to move it, but it turns out that the game will also be coming to PS4.

It's on PS4. It was already in development when MS bought the developer so they have to finish the contract.
Yeah, I think maybe it had to do with the crowdfunding. Since Microsoft is now the publisher, I cannot think of any other reason. I don't think that Microsoft is obligated to publish for PS4, but I believe that Double Fine is because of the funding... but I could be wrong.

A similar (but different) thing with inXile over their VR game which is soon to release, called Frostpoint. In this case, the game was already under contract with another publisher. This will be the last non-Xbox Game Studios game for the company. In an article I've read, inXile was building a potential franchise around the multi-player experience, and they were hoping it would be successful, so they could build a AAA VR single player game around that world. They wanted to get the combat right first. It definitely looked to have Lost Planet vibes. If the game is successful, it would be cool to see MS snag that up for the future.

I was hoping that we'd get the 1st game on Gamepass, but I guess not. I think it was published by Majesco. It can't be that expensive to host at this point.

Me too. I think it was free on GWG at some point but I missed it

No PS5 version listed.

Yep. People keep repeating this as if it's new, but we were already discussing this right here last summer. It's because of crowdfunding obligation on PS4. No PS5 version was ever mentioned previously, but at least we now know that's still the case.

Can I just say that this is the most excited I think I've been for a day and date Gamepass release!

I mean, I wish Series consoles launched with a big Gamepass game (Medium seems... OK so far), but if this is the start for me, and they keep coming, I cannot wait for the releases to follow in the coming months! Interestingly, I can see a new trend in the future of games getting a more spread out release schedule, instead of a huge dump every holiday season, due to Gamepass acting more like Disney+ or Netflix than having a typical retail game release schedule. Has anyone considered this?

Well at least it should work on the PS5 BC I assume.

Yeah, I would guess it will. I honestly don't expect a title like this to be too next-gen anyway... but I'd be happy to be proven wrong with the Series console version(s).
