"The last time that next-gen launch software pricing went up was in 2005 and 2006, when it went from $49.99 to $59.99 at the start of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation," he says.

Osaki says that next-gen console game production costs have increased by 200% to 300%, depending on the IP, studio and genre, but the prices have remained at $59.99. Meanwhile, cinema ticket prices have risen 39%, Netflix subscription costs have gone up 100%, and Cable TV packages have risen by 105%.

He continues: "IDG works with all major game publishers, and our channel checks indicate that other publishers are also exploring moving their next-gen pricing up on certain franchises, for the same reasons outlined above.

I'm not paying more. If prices go up I will wait for sales. Which means a significant chunk of games I will lose interest in and never get.

I said this a while back that we were due for an increase. I'm surprised that the big publishers waited as long as they did. But here's the thing, IMO us hardcore, forum goers will be outraged and either buy less games or wait for a price drop out of principle. However, the average casual gamer that buys sports games every year and/or the yearly big budget shooter or action title, won't bat any eye at the new price and make it acceptable for more publishers to set the new price at $69.99 USD.

I already mostly wait for sales, unless it is a game I must have day 1 (usually multiplayer games or something I know I will put a ton of hours into). Otherwise, I wait for the first big digital sale which happen pretty often now. Certain stores have a wishlist feature too (PS Store has a nice one) which makes it easy to put things you want to keep an eye on in the same place.

In my experience there's very few games that don't get a price drop in the first couple months. There's always a couple exceptions like Rockstar games that take a little longer (RDR2 was a long time before it even was down $10) but most games you can pick up for $40.

Honestly it isn't just being frugal as much as limiting the number of games I pick up.

That sounds backwards.

I'm considering waiting for a big sale anyways. Oh wait I already do that for 90% of the games I play.

Surely Sally. If only they drop the price of mega-transaction. We can wait for sales, but the sale price is a factor of the base price. Higher base price->higher sale price.

We were told games are expensive due to cuts from resellers(like GameStop) & manufacturing (disc, package), & (then) Mirco transaction is to offset the cost of game production.

More Games are going digital, & microtransaction has turned to the mega transaction where cosmetics can cost as much or more than AAA games. Still, they want to charge more! Also, Naughty dog, everyone loves them right? More then half of their work is outsourced to china. You are not even paying to help locals.
Then you realized how absurd their top executive got paid & how they exploit the rank & file employees.

They already charge more for games. They already do special editions and ultra editions. Keep the base price, I say.

Unless it's a must have game that I've been looking forward to for years, they can f off..especially these sports games with barely anything added each year aside from roster changes.

I am not pleased with how the planet is right now, so I stay away from here to prevent slipping up and saying things others won't deem appropriate. I bought a new router to replace the crappy ISP leased model, and fixed my download speeds to 500/125 finally.

I'm able to download updates literally 100X faster and download games/updates I'd never dream about attempting before. I rarely play online, since it's been years since I was really hoping to even be able to. Other than GT Sport, I haven't opened the last 7 games I've bought including TLoU 2, FFVII: Remake and several other games I bought on sale. I'm just in a really foul mood thanks to bad humans who created all of the chaos going on...

As the great David Icke once said; "just go along with what experience the body you're in is showing you". It means nothing in the eternity of space, we're all made of stars and so shall we return and be reborn again and again in the ever ending eternal space our "souls " inhabit.

So yeah, fvck the world, focus on what makes you happy, be it videogames, sex, friends, building things, philosophy, books e.t.c.

I was watching a youtube video, & one guy summed it perfectly.

The world isn't getting worst, just that more people are taking & uploading videos (due to smartphone). When I was young, I will watch the news & see how many people died for whatever reason. I was worried to step out of the door. But then I realized these incidents are extremely RARE, but news/media make it sound far more than reality as if you walk down the street, you will get randomly strike by lightning, or get stab by a lunatic, or someone insulting your mother-in-law before you get indoor.

My suggestion, which I took from my friend also. Avoid social media, they don't represent reality. Go outside, meet real people. Most people are nice (yes, including most people social media claimed to think are not) when you actually interact.
