I've never played Alan Wake... would this deter from my experience in playing QB?

Unlikely. You should pay AW if you get the chance. Its in my top 5 of the generation. Very unique, and has great music. Much Better than Max Payne, imo.

Ah, but that would mean connecting the 360 once again, lol.

To paraphrase, they are using pre-rendered videos over using the hardware to render the cutscenes. But the game has so many pre-rendered cutscenes that it could not fit on the disc, and thus the game will require you to always be online and with a good internet as to stream all cutscenes from Microsoft's servers in real-time. And if you have a terrible connection and cannot steam those cutscenes real-time, then you can always use your terrible internet to download the additional update of a whopping 75GBs worth of cutscenes for offline use, making the full game on release over +120GBs. This just feels like a very strange version of DRM.

The more games, movies and downloads eat up bandwidth, the more your internet company will love it.

So what they lose out on with cable tv cord cutters (or guys like me who downgraded their TV package), they make up with bigger internet packages or the most costly one they have..... unlimited internet.

I think the first internet package I had 15+ years ago was 10 gb/mth.

So this game has a full download of over a year's worth of data. lol

Mine was 45gb. So 135-45=90. So that is an optional 90gb download for those that don't want to stream the TV cutscenes?

No. The download is 75GB.

This doesn't surprise at all. High quality cutscenes/TV show meant a hefty download for at least digital users. Little surprised they didn't do multiple discs, but it seems they originally planned to have you stream the content.

Not sure how it can be considered strange DRM when the download removes the need to be online

If a 100gb+ download is that big an issue, you need to go to your ISP and get a better package.

The base internet package is for grandma's who spend 20 minutes on facebook trying to figure out how to find their grandkids. Current gen gamers need to upgrade to a better connection.

I'm glad I gave my X1 to a family member, so I won't have to put up with needless 3GB+ updates and stupid games that require 20-75GB updates in order to play.

I don't think some people understand that the game will have:

  • Gamplay where you physically control your character
  • In Game Cutscenes using the game engine
  • Actual filmed television scenes with real life actors
It's funny to think that some games spend millions making in game cut-scenes to look as realistic as possible, and now a game decided to use real people and actual real life footage instead of trying to make a game engine look like the same thing.

This thread is about the download size of a game not where you bought it, or will, or what your perceive the value of the game to be. Either discuss the download or don't post in this thread.

I can see how the SIZE of a game would determine whether or not someone would or would not buy it, and what value for that size of a game you are getting. :meh:
