Rage 2

i am looking forward to playing this later tonight, but pissed off at the pathetic X "enhancement"

Here's an unintentionally funny article from Polygon.

Rage 2 uses my birth defect as a crude shorthand for mutant freak

(A few excerpts)

The mutation, I explained to Tim Willits, looks like an exaggerated cleft lip and cleft palate. The original Rage used similar imagery for its mutants, and I told Willits how disappointed I felt to see the sequel following that same path. Fiction has long associated clefts with both villainy and mental health disorders, and it appeared the Rage franchise would perpetuate this cruel, damaging misrepresentation to a broad audience.

I can now say with certainty that “the Avalanche guys” have not been “very good about being a little more sensitive.” Or perhaps Willits meant “little more” in a literal sense. As in they have made the smallest effort.

Rage 2’s use of cleft lip and palate imagery in the final game is worse than I expected, and certainly worse than its predecessor.

The cleft is used with such frequency that it feels like a visual cue: The exaggerated cleft signifies the most mutated of mutants, subhuman beasts that are caged, ridden like horses, or mounted like animals.

This guy is actually the co-founder of Polygon. "Cruel, damaging misrepresentation." f*** me, lol.

You beat me to it! I can just see the tool doing backflips now that he can represent his victimization, haha. Damaging misrepresentation, lol. I always new he was a mutant!

What's even more ridiculous is how remarkably normal that guy looks. Dude deserves all the scorn coming his way...

The best part is how illustrative it is in how these people see the world, and how ridiculous the levels they reach in order to see themselves as oppressed.

Enjoying the hell out of this game. The sound design is great! I don't know why some are saying it's an empty sandbox game when there's plenty of action going around in the wasteland.

The only big knock for me so far is lack of HDR. It kinda boggles me considering how much color there is...

I totally agree. This game is screaming for HDR. I mean the colors are already vibrant, can you imagine if it was enhanced in HDR.

The Reeee thread is full of bans. lol. Probably people suggesting that maybe he should take things less personally, take responsibility for his feelings, or not be such a whiney victim. Ban!

Well this game is a blast. There is a lot of upgrading to do but the grind is really fun. That being said I don’t know that I needed to purchase at full price, but I had bing credit that would have expired anyway. Feels like a game I could have rented and got on sale.

That may sound weird considering how fun I think the game is, but it’s because while the shooting is great DOOM does it better. Same for the open world, it’s fun but has also been done better.

One thing I have to give this game credit for is they made everything fun. The gunplay feels great, the driving and car combat works, the open world isn’t a chore, and I even enjoy the grind of unlocking stuff. This is a game you can play for 10 minutes or 2 hours and have a great time.

I'm just trying to find the Arks right now. Unlocking abilities really changes how I can play. I'm finally getting to a point we're I can be more like in Halo 5. Once I get my hands on Slam... Hooo boy. I've got the shotty, maxed out double jump, the shield, and maxed dodge. I also want Rush...

Slam is great especially when you amp it up.

I also like shatter.

I've got shatter and slam maxed along with shotty and assault rifle. I just found the rocket launcher so I'm trying to take out those giants.

I really love that the weapons & abilities aren't locked behind story progress. It's awesome having all the weapons and abilities pretty early in the game, now the work is getting the resources to upgrade everything. Maxed out shatter, got my double jump/ dash/ sprint, some extra weapons and firepower for the main car. Taking on convoys is pretty fun and can be challenging.

I do find myself relying very heavily just on the AR and shotgun combo, I want to make myself use the other weapons because they're all fun in their own ways. The firestorm revolver is especially cool when you've put a couple rounds into multiple targets and then give 'em the ole Thanos snap out of existence. Grav-dart launcher is another weapon that is super fun to use.

Yeah the firestorm is a beast in overdrive

Game has an interesting rhythm. I love love love the dodge and Slam abilities. I do think Halo 5 flows better, but it still has its own flavor

Yeah. Though pop-in isn't an issue like I saw one review say, the image isn't very stable. It looks like a lot of its shading is screen space so it's always adjusting to what's moving. The AO is pretty ha. Fisted as well.

Overall though, it looks decent, but 1080p feels so low nowadays...

EDIT: I really should mention how much I love the physicality of everything, and the Particle systems are top tier as well. There's nothing like Dash-kicking fools into walls and watching them bounce off of it :D

Like Mad Max, the dust, sparks and explosions are awesome. They also do a good job of slowly fading out the effects for some really great looking stuff. Also the Draw distance on Shadows its pretty damn good too.

I’m the same way, I don’t use the other weapons with any sort of consistency, just most flip back and forth between the AR and shotgun. The other guns outside of the rocket launcher aren’t as useful as I was hoping.

However I’ve kind of changed my stance on this game and could definitely see it as a full price purchase. It’s just fun in a way that’s rare in games today, and it’s got plenty of gameplay to justify the price.

I've seen it being said by a few journos and youtube people that the game is boring because they don't enjoy anything other than the shooting, which they said eventually wears out it's welcome. I myself have yet to feel that way and I've played it for probably close to 15 hours at this point. The driving isn't the best, but it's far from the worst, and the handful of convoys I've taken on have been enjoyable.

I think it's far from boring. I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

I just found the ark with vortex. It's great when in a room full of muties.

Haha, has anyone actually slowed down enough and looked at what some of the random junk you pick up is actually labeled as? It just calls it junk when you pick it up, but if you look at what it's called before grabbing it, they're labeled as all sorts of random trash.
