Official Thread Ratchet And Clank: A Rift Apart - June 11, 2021 UPDATE Preload Up

I've been watching videos of this game and I'm surprised by many of the comments from some gamers. Things I've read some say are "I'll wait for a sale, can't spend $70 on a 15hr experience or Just buy it and complete it as fast as possible and trade it in to receive maximum credit for another title".

I don't understand, I've seen many complaints about bloated experiences within some games that pad things out so much that it bores the player into quitting. And yet here we have a highly polished and focused title that seems to be overflowing with fun from start to finish and I still see complaints. Ohh well, you'll never please everyone I suppose.

Meanwhile Medium is 7.5 - 8 hours, RE Village is 9 hours average, can be even an hour or two quicker if you don't go back to previous places to beat optional bosses and people are happy to buy those.

Having 12-16 hours is fantastic for this type of title, not too long, not too short. I can then decide whether to resell it back out or keep it as a cornerstone title for the PS5's visual fidelity.

Two hours less than Ratchet but also $20.00 less.

But either way, R&C looks to be a hit.

We'll see when people start getting the game and playing it how long it'll take on average. I am going to guess around 12-16 hours for normal playthrough. 20+ hours for Completionist.

It'll probably be in the upper teens of hours for me since RE8 took me 11 hours and a bit to complete since I tried to explore everything and beat all the optional bosses and that's a supposedly shorter game.

I don't know. I was just going by what the reviewers must have posted on Twitter. No matter to me. It will take me a year to finish it

I'm just basing my guess on the franchises history for consoles, it looks to be in the teens for sure.

I still love conscise linear style games that I can experience in full and arent padded with tons of unenjoyable forgettbable nonsense. I can complete them and even replay them for additional trophies / achievements If I want. I remember the days when people were more than happy to pay full price for a 6 to 8 hour campaign.

Potentially short length doesn't inherently make a game bad, and potential extreme length doesn't make a game good.

History is cool. I was just going by current.

Who said it was 10 hours just curious? Have a tweet or any source? Want to read more about if that person just speedran through or took his or her time.

I saw it on twitter, but mine goes 100 miles an hour. I am sure I won't find it again, lol.

The PS4 R&C was around 10-11 hours long, NOBODY complained about that game being too short lol. I played through it like 2-3 times because it was so much fun. People complaining that this is short when it's between 11-15 hours likely aren't doing it in good faith.

To be fair it was $40 and this is $70

Two of the guys on IGNf Podcast Beyond said they got Platinum trophies between 15 to 20 hours in.

Nice. That's what I like to hear.

I do remember seeing a video or reading that they made the Platinum trophy easier to get with Rift Apart because they didn't want gamers to spend extra hours hunting or grinding for a trophy. Hopefully it can be done with one playthrough.

So without all the extras, those that said it's close to 10 hours are probably accurate. Not sure if I will go for extras or not with such a big game backlog.

2016 - Ratchet and Clank Remake
2018 - Spider-Man PS4
2020 - Miles Morales PS4/5, SM Remastered PS5
2021 - Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart

Is Insomniac Games just a machine or what? What other game developer studio can output this amount of well polished and high visual fidelity games in such short amount of time?

4 major titles released, 5 if you include the remastering of Spider-Man (201:cool:, in just 5 years.

They're probably already working on their next project as we speak with Ratchet releasing in just a couple of days.

This guy's 10 hours in and he hasn't finished it yet.

Miles is the same price but you called it a DLC and you can sink more hours into Miles than the Medium ;)

So this is short and has no multiplayer?

15-20 hours platinum going from IGN podcast.

Normal story playthrough, not sure yet. Anywhere from 10 hours (Hedon's claimed from twitter) to mid teens hours (going from history).

It's not short it's longer than the game on PS4 was and from what I've read only one game in the series ever had any kind of multiplayer and it was co-op which this game clearly isn't designed for.

I haven't played it, so I can't confirm the length. You have to go by those that have the game. But it doesn't have multiplayer.

Yup. Not sure why you keep bringing up Xbox games here though. Rent free in your head?

Let's stay on topic.

Not my claim.

And going by R&C 2016, looks like main story is 10 hours.

Oh because it's funny to see you contradict yourself. Hours matter when? (to differentiate between "DLC" and a game) :p

The Medium is becoming a multiplat now.

Just joshing you. Okay, back to the greatness that is Ratchet.

3 more days until this baby can be played first hand. Hopefully my amazon preorder arrives in time otherwise I'll be bummed.

If available gaming hours matter so much then why is it that so many don't like AC: Valhalla? The campaign alone takes almost 100hrs to complete so gamers should have been super happy with the game. Oh wait, many have said it overstayed its welcome long before reaching its conclusion. For the record I really liked Valhalla.

A Rift Apart looks like a lot of fun from beginning to end. It just sounds like some are looking for reasons to bash the game because they either don't like Sony or more accurately can't find a PS5 to buy and play all of its games. :hehe:
