Official Thread Ratchet And Clank: A Rift Apart - June 11, 2021 UPDATE Preload Up

This game looks like so much fun. I already have FF7 Remake preordered and I'll have my hands full with that later this week. But I keep watching footage of this game and wonder how the heck did Insomniac have time for this. I know, Miles Morales wasn't a full game release but it wasn't short on content either.

Yet, God of War is delayed until next year. :really:

Insomniac is looking like the most efficient developer on the planet right now. I just wish Sony would spread out releases, but I guess if I wait I can get this game at a discount. So I should just be patient. BUT ITS HARD DAMMIT.
I'm sure they were developed by different teams over many years. They didn't make R&C in 8 months...

You're probably right but you have to give these devs a lot of credit for being able to pump out so many high quality games in such a short time. I even read that the devs on this project didn't need to crunch at all. That's amazing and shows how efficient and organized Insomniac Games are.

Like the great director Chris Nolan who its said that his movies are always on time, on budget and always of stellar quality. The same could be said of Insomniac.

I wonder if they used the Spider-Man game engine.

True.

The studio has about 275+ employees split into different teams for sure. Probably 2-3? One mainly for Ratchet, the other for Spiderman, one for floating between both for support?

2016 Ratchet and Clank
2018 Spiderman
2020 Miles/Spiderman Remastered
2021 Rift Apart.

So maybe 2022-2023 for Spiderman 2

2025 for next Ratchet or a new IP?

I’m playing in graphics mode and I’m happy with 30fps.
I tried FF7 Remake at 30fps for about 45mins to give my eyes time to adjust and they did. But since I was constantly panning the camera around to see the overall environment I didn't like the stutter you get from 30fps. I'll sacrifice some visual quality for a smoother framerate when I finally get to this game.

I think I'm becoming a 60fps snob. :surprise:

If I panned I would do 60fps. As it stands I fly through campaigns. No time to take them in.

What do you think of the game so far, does the presentation take a major hit when switching between performance & graphics modes?

I played for a bit this morning using 60 FPS ray tracing and noticed some shadow pop-in and "softness", especially in the backgrounds. I think I may try the 30 FPS ray tracing option instead.

The game looks f***ing amazing. I just hope the gameplay grabs me this time.
Whenever I find a PS5 that is, in the next year or so, I hope?

I love when games are beautiful but still look very videogamey. You know what I mean?
I like photorealism.. But I like vivid gamey looking worlds too

I’m wayyy early. Still opening level. I won’t be doing any switching. The default is graphics mode so I left it at that.

You should at least try out the other graphical options. In the DF video above its stated that even more so than Miles Morales the Performance RT mode is the best option to play as it seems like the game's graphics were tailored for RT reflections.

At least check it out. But by all means play how you feel most comfortable.

Gameplay so far is simple but solid. I'm too early to make any real assessment as I'm sure additional mechanics will start to develop, but looking good.

Mine is arriving anytime from 2-5pm est. Can't wait!
Arriving?

Very Funny Lol GIF

If I hadn't just played the remake for PS4 I'd be all over this. Added to the backlog though for sure.

I have an electric bike delivering (finally, been over a month since I ordered it) tonight, and I've been planning on making good use of it this weekend. I "shouldn't" buy this, as I have a million other games to finish, but the temptation is real.

I’m not gonna give this game my personal score because it’s not my kinda game. I’m enjoying it but it’s a bit kiddie. It’s my first R&C.

I mean, you can see the ray tracing if you stop doing everything and look around. If you're in motion I don't think you can really tell a difference between performance and performance rt other than the increased res. But that's me. F*ck the 30fps mode.

Going to platinum this game in the performance RT mode.

This has got to be the best looking game out to date. It's literally like playing a Pixar movie. Jeez.

Having fun just taking my time going through and collecting everything, only about an hour or so in. The art direction and RT really shines in this game with all the curved and reflective surfaces found everywhere.
