I really enjoyed the first one! Yes, I think it was way better than the movie, even though the movie did fix some problematic issues. I may just get the audiobook, as long as it's read by Will Wheaton again. It was actually exceptionally read by him. I will probably revisit that one again in standard book form though, too.

How is the first book already 9 years old? Crazy! An interesting tidbit is that Oculus wasn't formed until the next year, and allegedly, Palmer Luckey encouraged everyone the team to read it by giving the book to all of the employees.

Sure, it reads like fan-fiction, but that's also the point of the book, so for those that get it, they just get it. I'm looking forward to reentering The Oasis, and seeing Where Cline takes these characters, as well as the multiverse itself.

I thought the book was alright but loved seeing all of the IPs in the movie. Cline's writing style is just a presentation of lists, which is tiresome as a book, but glorious on screen. Looking forward to it!

havent read the book, loved the movie, but my only gripe is that i felt the girl deserved to be the winner/hero, with all that happened to her and loss.

She was the main fix in the movie, IMO.

I've heard this perspective, and I can understand it. (Also, the audio book may actually have more personality than the written page because it feels very much like a 1st person narration.) I've actually seen more cases where people actually love the book, but hate the movie, which I think is silly because the core elements are all still there. (Besides, the lead character himself would be so honored to be in a Spielberg film) It's actually also no different from its source as any other big Spielberg book to movie translations, I'd say. Jurassic Park was actually more different than the book, as far as character changes. I've never read Jaws, but I've heard that the book pales in comparison. Anyway, the one thing I would have rely liked to be in there from the book was his boring virtual high school, and him finding the first gate on this planet because he couldn't afford to fast travel anywhere.

Of all the IPs that the movie was missing, I'd say Ultraman was the most disappointing for me to not be there. It's too bad that the rights holder changed their minds after production was already under way. I think that Iron Giant was really a good substitute for that though. IG kind of also replaced the weirdly obscure Leopardon Japanese Spider-Man show mech, but then they did have a Gundam... Seeing a Gundam in a live action Spielberg movie is also actually something I never thought I'd ever see in my life, so there was plenty of other outlandish nerd stuff in there that was just really awesome to see in movie form.

Give me a sequel movie. I was surprised how much I loved the film. To me it was like Spielberg was speaking to a new generation of movie goers.
I hope the book is good enough to warrant a movie sequel, or maybe it's a trilogy!
