just finished cnapter 3, this game is so beautiful and satisyfying

the only problem i still have is that every mission starts and ends with a long horse ride... which can make me reluctant to play it sometimes

for me Witcher 3 still holds the game of the generation

I’m getting to the end now, in the second epilogue chapter. The writing is just so good. I’m kind of sad the story is nearly over but I can’t wait to see the end either.

I think I agree, but it's pretty close. If the witcher used this engine.... man I want to see what R* would do with a witcher-style fantasy RPG...

Both games are top of the table for best your going to play but I can’t really see R* doing fantasy even in the most hypothetical of situations. If they do another RDR in the next ten years it will be an absolute treat.

I haven't really been paying attention to this but it looks like I'm playing to be an honorable outlaw. Surprising cause I've done some dishonorable things.

Same here, when I play this I just think "Damn why doesn't Bethesda do this for Elder Scrolls" This game looks a generation beyond Fallout 4 IMO and that's Bethesda's newest SP offering this gen. I've tweeted (in a respectful way) to Pete Hines of Bethesda about how much better AC Odyssey and RDR2 look than his games and that I hope they'll do something big to push both their visuals and animation next gen.

Just finished it. About 100 hours. Did loads of the side missions, hunting, extra stuff. I got the good ending. It mostly hinges on a single decision toward the end of the game so your rep bar is kind of meaningless. I absolutely this loved this game from the start to the end. It plays like some of those great western movies like The Unforgiven, A Few Dollars More, etc. Its my favorite single player for the last few years without doubt and it raises the bar for open world games again.

Can you continue on after finishing it?

I really have to hand it to Rockstar with their character development. I thought I'd hate playing as Arthur from the trailers and at the beginning I wasn't excited about him either but as time went on he not only became likeable but redeemable. They gave us just the right amount of options as to doing the "right or wrong" thing and it just made a big difference. I'm still on chapter 6 and I haven't even seen the entire map yet but I really do love this game. I'd still put God of War as the best game of the gen for me but this is a close 2nd. This really has been the best year of this generation IMO, especially if you own a PlayStation console.

Oh hell yeah, I've been just exploring for a couple of hours now and just came across an old open air tomb... and now I have a Viking hatchet!

I also stumbled on a cave full of cannibals- very disturbing scenery.

This game blows me away in its attention to detail. It all feels hand crafted and it's genuinely exciting to explore. I love how Arthur draws pictures of interesting landmarks, weird trees, cave wall paintings, and buildings you inspect in his journal. I don't even care if it leads anywhere!

Pro tip- look for structures on the map and search the buildings- that's how you find camp member special items. I just look at the map and set a marker on them.

Also, the lighting and shadow model is unmatched on console. Bust out the lantern every now and then and watch the shadow play and awesome penumbra (I think that's what the contact shadows getting more diffuse as the get further from the caster) effect around plants/leaves and stuff. Or how about the shadow hardness change depending on cloud cover. insane!

Yes. Some ppl waited to finish the story before doing the side stuff

Most of the side missions need to finished before you finish the story. Stuff like hunting and bounties are still there but bounties are fixed so eventually you will finish them all.

Enjoying it but I've been busy so only made very slow progress, so all is have to say is

Lenny!

Ynnel!

Yeah I got that helmet and axe last week, that's what made me think "Damn Bethesda, get on the ball with your game engine" lol

Anyone else notice that the rain effects seem to change from time to time? Usually they are transparent and allow light etc to pass through and other times they are just white lines.

It's an amazing time-sink of a game. You pick it up and hours just vanish away. In-game, all you've done was hunt a dear and maybe complete one quest. Everything seems to happen in real-time lol.

Only thing is, why is the motion blur when you're moving so aggressive?

Here's a great review that's like listening to myself talk about it, lol.

He also points out a number of details in the world that even I hadn't noticed with my obsession for looking at everything all the time, like how water seeps up into footsteps in mud, or how if you beat someone up the next time you see them, they will be bandaged. So amazing, and R* deserves all of the praise in the world for it!

I can't get into the hunting. Last night I spent about an hour looking for a 3 star Buck to craft the first satchel upgrade and came up empty. It just felt like a waste of time. I'd rather spend my time shooting people. The glacial pace of this game in some ways hurts it for me. Last night was the first time I was bored and I think it was because I was doing something I'm not really into. And the realistic death cries of the digital wildlife do very little to get me to do more hunting. I've read the game can be played to completion without the need for much hunting so I think that's the route I'll take going forward. I'm just such a wuss for animals even if they are not real.

i havent hunted or even tried to hunt a single animal (outside the missions obviously)

i find it so boring

Have I lost these missions from chapter 3? (Now on chapter 4)

the true love missions. I've done 3 of them and not seen either character again and basically just wiped out one side
