I'm skeptical that it can deliver 3D but it sounds awesome. Mobile technology has come so far in the last ten years it's just incredible to think something like this is even possible now.

Holographic and 3D autostereoscopic are two very, very different things!

The later would be not any (or much) different than Nintendo SDS. Maybe they've found a better way than lenticular, but it would still be similar.

The former would be one of the biggest achievements of the century. Real holograms are one of the holy grails of modern science. I'm highly sceptical of this.

I've never even heard of that company. Pretty soon we'll be buying cars to accessorize our phones if prices like that continue.

RED has pioneered the era of digital cinema with sensors that they built from scratch. Entrepreneur Jim Jannard started the company after selling his successful start-up Oakley Eyewear. That's most of what I know. There have been a whole lot of productions "filmed" with RED digital cameras since first introduced in the early 2000s. They are a pretty big deal, imo. They just aren't in the consumer space.

They have fallen to the bottom of choices when it comes to digital now. The big boys, Alexa, etc. have dwarfed them now. We have to thank Red for pushing the big boys faster than they wanted. Red is overwhelmingly used as a B roll camera now.

How so? Some of the biggest blockbusters have been or will be shot with RED cameras. The Hobbit trilogy, X-Men: Apocalypse, Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2, Transformers movies, Fate of the Furious, Jurassic World, Captain America: Civil War, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avatar sequels. I heard Guardians Of the galaxy 2 was the first movie shot on the new Epic Dragon 8K rig. Its really a pity that they settled on mastering it at 2K, but I guess there were a lot of CG elements that would have required since serious rendering time. Hopefully Cameron does 4K HFR 3D for the Avatar sequels, with no holds barred, this time. All 3D masters so far have been only 2K, save Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, which was shot at 4K 3D and 120fps, but shown in theaters in multiple frame rate versions and only in rare cases, the full monte, with 3D, HFR, and 4K HDR. Still, no FX-heavy movies have been mastered in 4K AND 3D, let alone any HFR thrown in. Cameron better take it to the next level... and with the writing, too, this time! :txbcool:

I loved the Hobbit in HFR. I hate judder whether it's on the TV screen or silver screen. HFR eliminates judder and it also adds that extra clarity and sharpness to the picture. I know some people don't like HFR but I personally love it. I wonder at what frame rate Cameron will shoot the Avatar sequels. 48 or 60 fps.

Such a pity they mastered Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 at 2K but it's understandable. Almost the entire movie was filled with CGI. I think they shot the entire movie in soundstages filled with green screens. 4K would have significantly increased render time and cost. I was excited when they announced it would be shot in 8K.

They're not shot completely on Red. Red used to distinguish between completely shot on Red and partially shot on Red. As Red became use for more b-roll, and certain specifical effects, space constraint, shots, etc., they removed the designation. You need to go to IMDB to see the cameras used now.

Jurassic World for example..... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0369610/technical?ref_=tt_dt_spec

Watched the vid, absolutely stupid to move the headphone jack to the top. Completely stupid. I don't know of a single person who keeps their phone in their pocket with the top of the phone pointing up. Everyone has top pointing down.
