I'm about to say "FCK this game". I mean, sh!t even Bloodborne allowed for the unlocking of a shortcut to get right back at the boss. But in this game you have to trek through 2 levels before you can reach the second boss. There's a portal at the midway point of the second area. But if I make it there with low health then its not even worth going to the boss fight. Then you have almost all the pickups inflicting some sort of malfunction to make things harder. Its like the devs put in so many things to artificially create obstacles to lengthen the game and I'm getting sick of it.

I pretty much ignored all malignant stuff unless I could cleanse it.

I spent my time going through all the rooms , clearing enemies and getting strong. Focusing on my integrity, life leech perk weapons or protection artifacts, and collecting healing items.

I guess if you have that kind of patience then this game is for you. But I don't want to have to spend 15-20 mins of farming before I can have another attempt at the boss. I can tell this is a relatively short game. But the devs put in so many obstacles to hinder progress and stretch it out its just not fun for me to have to repeat the same content over and over again. Obilites disappear with the quickness, items are random, malfunctions from almost all items, hits take obscene levels of health away, one hit removes all perks. Its madness.

Yeah lots of people saying this. Has really turned me off, probably will not buy.

The really funny thing is I've avoided Demon's Souls because of its perceived difficulty. But at least that game has shortcuts, checkpoints and an XP progression system where you get stronger. I should have put my $75 towards that instead. Ohh well, lesson learned.

Even Souls games test me now days. I can beat them, but with limited gaming time... it just really tests my patience dying to a boss and then having to run a gauntlet all the way back to the boss. The shortcuts and stuff as you said make it tolerable and allow me to enjoy the games, but they are still an investment and when I sit down for a couple hours at night with my only free time of the day I do have to question if that is how I want to spend it.

If Returnal is even past THAT then, nah dawg, I’m out. Cuz I know I’ll never finish it. Game does look cool but I’ve learned a lot over the years about which games will get my time and which games look sweet but I need to avoid.

I don't think you can really shortcut it through unless you have mad skills and can kill the boss with minimal items haha. Those are more for speed runners.

Slow and steady is the key for those who want to take their time and enjoy IMO, haha. If you rush through you more or less will get f***ed from being too underlevelled or just bad RNG from enemies.

Also your weapon/perks RNG affects your power. I was lucky to get a pretty nice hollowseeker in biome 3 which helped me tons against waves.

This game is amazing for what it is, a Roguelite. It will be difficult for many gamers who are not used to it for sure. I haven't had my heart pumping so much in a game in a while. That feeling when you beat the boss and you have a sliver of life left is so good and rewarding.

Ok, supposed to be working but instead was playing this.

Anyway, finally defeated the 2nd boss. I hardly took any damage because I faced him so many times I was super aware of his attacks. I'm making my way through the 3rd area and get killed. It restarted me back at the 1st area.......nope its time for lunch.

This game has tested my patience unlike anything in recent memory. At least I beat the 2nd boss, at some point it became a point of gamer pride.

Biome 3 is one of the harder biomes for sure.

Those tracking rockets from those flying drones are BS. I was feeling good about myself until I reached those bastages.

This game has an arcade feel to it. I wonder how many quarters I would have spent up to this point. I was looking at my stats page and it says I've died 12 times. It feels like a lot more.

Just keep grappling around the map (you don't take dmg during grappling) and try to find a weapon with lots of damage output so you can melt them.

I had a hollowseeker that was decent.

Yea the drones are bs. As I've been in the middle of the move I haven't been progressing in this game, so have only been into the third biome a couple times previously. Just played a few daily challenges.

Yeah, I took a break. Biome 3 is really tough for me and making to the boss only to die deflates me.

I just don't have the cat like, ninja reflexes of a gamer like DriedMangoes who blew through this title without much trouble.

I honestly just took my time and went through every room to clear and get my integrity as high as possible, avoid anything malignant unless it's auto repair at low integrity, and try to get an OP hollowseeker with waves and voidbeam before heading to fight the boss. Avoid the golden rooms with a star unless it's absolutely necessary. Try to have a major heal for boss fights if you can. Try to save ethers for reconstructors. Best to get an astronaut first then do a reconstructor because they stack. Pay for the reconstructor once a level at least. Don't be stingy with your ether. Buy the 25% integrity upgrade when you can. When you're in biome 1, you used to be able to go back to Helios and heal unlimited times, that's what I did whenever I got hurt because I wanted to build my integrity through all the green resins I found. Did you guys know that if you're at full health , all green resins will go towards your bar for integrity ? I was at 230% integrity and 20% protection when I got to biome 3 boss.

For actual fights, try to learn to always keep moving, always keep shooting, grappel whenever you can because you don't take damage during. Also don't be afraid to cheese monsters. Every integrity percentage helps. I used doors to go back and forth to kill many of them.

Yea I started doing that with biome 3. Trigger enemies then retreat a bit and try to aggro only a few of them if possible.

I haven't touched the game in over a week. Don't have the time for it, I'll play again when they add in a save system or new game play modes.

Not sure why when most people playing modern games on PC are playing 1080p/DLSS to 1440p or 4K.

Most people are actually NOT doing that. Seeing as:

1) Most gamers don't have RTX cards.
2) Most games don't have DLSS.

Don't blame ya, this game demands a major time investment to make progress. I've had the time but not the patience.

And since I'm not a Digital Jedi like Mr. Mangoes I've been looking forward to some other titles on the horizon like the Mass Effect remaster and Valhalla dlc.

I've got a buddy who lives hard games. He had to put it down for now. Doesn't sound fun to me at all.

The save thing ruined it me. I know how I game and this screams play it on a weekend, think it’s cool and never come back to it.

Definitely not for everyone because I can understand how frustrating it can be if you're unable to progress through.

I want to post something about the save thing but it's kind of a spoiler of the story but not really IMO.

I'll just do it.

Once you beat biome 3 boss and advance to biome 4, whenever you die, you will restart at biome 4. So it's kind of a save system in that way.

I did read a short interview with the devs. And they said they are working on a save feature but that its proving difficult and not meshing well with all the other systems they have in place. It may come soon or never but this is still a great game even if I suck at it.

This game is one of the most fun I've had this year because of how rewarding it feels to progress, the sheer craziness of the gameplay/music OST during the epic battles between the bosses and bigger monsters in the game. The story is okay, the gameplay is where it's at here for me.

I mean the whole point of the game is to keep dying and getting better at the core game mechanics and improving your permanent items inventory. A save system only does so much as to let you play other games if you decide to take a break. Otherwise, a pause and rest mode is the exact same. Once you die within your save system you will go back to the start of that cycle. The game is smart enough to already "save" when you progress through the game. Like you don't need to replay all the bosses you've beat, when you have unlocked certain items and abilities etc. Though I did because I thought the rewards were worth the risk during my subsequent run.

I love the game and I find myself wanting to keep playing it, but I also don't want to dedicate possibly several hours to it. If the PS5 had a suspend feature for games then by all means, but it is rare these days that I want to play a game for 2-3 hours at once or even in a row without switching, especially during the week. Unless they add a save feature I would probably only do a non challenge/ether farm run on the weekend.
