Official Thread Rise of the Tomb Raider

In what way?

The enemies are boring as hell to fight and the trebuchet part just felt like repetitive filler. It really wasn't so much that it was bad it just wasn't great for a final part of the game.

Good game but the last one was better

I absolutely despised the last portion of the game. It was like a completely different game entirely.

I thought they were just fine, but I like to play stealthy. Once you can stealth kill armoured opponents, it's not bad. I didn't find it bad at all, and I do appreciate that they mix the gameplay up as you go to an extent.

  • First impressions suggest that Xbox One X is indeed capable of producing a tangibly improved version of a key third-party title - what we've played looked even better than the excellent PS4 Pro release.
  • Just like the PS4 Pro game, there are three specific game modes you can swap between in real-time - all of them boasting considerable upgrades on Xbox One X.
  • The checkerboard 4K mode on Pro is boosted to full, native ultra HD with a mostly consistent 30 frames per second.
  • This is backed by higher resolution art assets and improved texture filtering - all of which in combination offers a distinct visual upgrade over the equivalent PS4 Pro mode.
  • The big difference here is that it's presented as an alternative 4K mode, as opposed to PS4's 1080p presentation.
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One X offers users the ability to choose between razor-sharpness or a softer look, but with more visual features in place.
  • On top of that, there are further enhancements we've not seen on any other platform: Dolby Atmos spatial surround support is confirmed, along with HDR rendering.
  • Xbox One X will indeed deliver the best console version of a particularly challenging third-party title.

Kudos to the developers for putting all this work into a 2 year old game (if the update is free).

It's a brilliant game, and I'll definitely give the game another play through eventually. Too bad I bought it for PC.

I bet they still won't fix the input lag.
I has been fixed apparently but no way to confirm.

I expect it will be, giving that it's farmed out to the same dev house who did the Pro Port. Nixxes, or something like that.

I didn't have a problem with the original's take on the controls ( Love or hate it, I still think it was a purposeful decision to make it feel weightier), but I won't turn down a tighter implementation.

I 100% the game, and had ZERO issues with the controls.

I didn't know there was an issue with the controls to begin with.

My biggest complaint how freaky the house with legs was. That s*** gave me nightmares. I'm pretty sure that the Wicked Witch of the West was my grandmother, so it's in my blood to be scared of houses that can fall on you, let alone ones that can chase you.

Yeah, it still has issues now on the PS4. I think they released 5 different patches and every other one fixed/broke the input lag. The only way I could beat the game was playing in high frame rate mode in the end. I couldn't get through the latter part if the game on the standard PS4.

If you ever visited the official forum there was lots of complaints on it. Even in patch notes there was mention of the issue. Plus, I think Digital Foundry even did a video on it.

I can't wait for them to update this for the PS5 then again on the Xbox Two.

I didn't love this game like some of you. Certainly not enough to play it over again however maybe I'll give the DLC a shot out of principal. Should look great on a 4K tv. It's cool to see developers putting work into single player games 2 years after release.

The DLC isn't worth buying/playing the game again, but the 4K visuals are.

The yabba dabba doo witch stuff was decent, but I never finished playing through Croft Manor or that zombie stuff they added.

I wish they'd show off the new one already if there even is one.

Still need to get around to playing this... I'm going to wait until Aloy's adventure is over. Lara is a bow-toting female protagonist, too, so it's like I have to give them both their own space.

Now is the time :) I surely like this game...

A L O......T

I never got around to playing the 20th Anniversary content that I bought until this past week. I keep thinking about games I need to take off my backlog. So I finished the main campaign shortly after it first came out, and I got 100% in the game. The game is just fun and sexy as hell.

I already thought this game was the best looking game on console. And now after the Xbox One X enhancements to 4K, it is STILL the best looking and just a great fun game. The DLC that I just started up is "ok", but not worth full price back when it came out. I think I got it for less than $10 on some sale.

One of the pieces of content is Blood Ties - "Croft Manor", where you just walk around the mansion solving puzzles, learning back story, and finding documents and relics. There are no enemies, no chances of getting hurt or anything like that. It's not bad, and it tells a lot of story that is for sure. There are really only few puzzles.

Another part of the DLC is an add on to the campaign. Baba Yaga adds more to the existing map that you are on. So here there is a demonic look into the past, Lara's father, etc. More missions, more documents, more relics, but has a "witch" vibe to it, and is totally different than the main campaign since you are going up against things that are not real. I am only part way through it, and again, it's good, but not as good as the campaign.

There are some added Survivor, Endurance mode for added difficulty, which I don't bother with. Also you get a ton of mod cards, which I never bothered with either.

I am not 100% sure, but I think it included Lara's Nightmare too (zombies mode, which takes place in the croft manor). I haven't gone that far yet.

Anyway, just thought if you have the game and haven't done the DLC yet, look for a GREAT deal on it, then give it whirl if you enjoyed ROTTR.
