Official Thread Rise of the Tomb Raider

I have the season pass. I hope cold darkness have tombs to raid, puzzle to solve, & not just Walking dead, Lara edition.

Either you love it, or you don't.

Personally, I think red shoes laces just too striking. Prefer black or white.

SE have said is still coming to PS4 this year. Seems people thought it wasn't. Can see this getting a Scorpio release as well.

Yeah, i heard that it might not come to PS4 but that was from Crapgamer so, lol. I didn't bother looking into it. Didn't Microsoft help fund the game though and saved it from being episodic? Seems like SE is on their last legs these days.

There was confusion about the exclusivity of this game early on, most people assumed it would come to Playstation but it was a question of when and how.

I hadn't heard the episodic rumor, but it wouldn't really surprise me. SE seemed a bit lukewarm on the game so it seems likely that MS pouring a lot of resources (money, technical assistance and advertising) no doubt helped.

The game will have a hard time attracting attention on the PS4, given the fact that it's a year old and being released at the most crowded time of year. It didn't do all that great on the Xbox, and I don't expect it to do all that great on PS4, either. If they release an upgraded version on Neo, with all DLC included, that might make it more enticing. SE isn't saying much at this point (besides confirming that it's coming this holiday), presumably because the contract they signed with MS doesn't allow them to talk much about it yet.

If it's just the base game for $60, I'll pass. I'll play it, but not at that price. I expect that the game will drop in price pretty rapidly, so you should be able to get it at half-price after a few months.

If that rumor is true, and if the other rumor is true (about Neo releasing in October and requiring Neo-enabled versions for games released in October), then there should be a Neo-enabled version. That might be a nice step up. However, that's a couple of "if's" based on rumors. We'll have to wait and see how things really shake out.

Lara Croft's Tomb Raider Rises on PS4 with New Story, Modes, and PlayStation VR

How do you get people to care about Rise of the Tomb Raider on the PlayStation 4 a year after release? You quite literally throw the kitchen sink at it! Square Enix has confirmed today that its critically acclaimed action adventure will finally release on Sony's system on 11th October – and it will include an absolute ton of additional content.

The headline addition is a new story chapter, 'Blood Ties' – which will be playable using PlayStation VR if you so choose. "When Lara's uncle contests ownership of the Manor, Lara must explore the estate to find proof that she is the rightful heir, or lose her birthright and father's secrets for good," the press release reads. An extra mode named 'Lara's Nightmare' will then see you defending the mansion from zombies. Really.

"This year we celebrate 20 years of the iconic Lara Croft," said Crystal Dynamics' Ron Rosenberg. "This provided the perfect opportunity for us to deliver a new Tomb Raider experience. With the addition of PlayStation VR support, you can play the world through Lara's eyes for the first time in franchise history."

There's more: you'll get all of the previously released DLC out of the box, as well a new co-op mode named Endurance. "Two players must team up to survive the harsh elements by day, as well as lethal threats from enemies by night. Fire takes fuel, food restores health, and every resource must be hunted, collected, or crafted.

And, as this version is being billed as a 20th Year Celebration edition, there'll be new Tomb Raider III themed costumes and weapons – as well multiple character models spanning Lara's history, including her 1996 incarnation. And, finally, there'll be an Extreme Survivor setting which will make the game even harder, removing checkpoints and forcing you to forage for enough fuel to light campfires, which will represent the only places that you can save.

Phew! Are we happy then? There's no word on a price just yet, but given the wealth of extras included here, we're going to assume it will be full price like originally rumoured.

Here is some video covering the co-op mode, the Blood Ties mission, and the zombie mode:

Some more info, from the original blog post.

"First, whenever we ask you what DLC you’re interested in, “new story” is number one on the wish list. Talking it over with our Franchise Creative Director, Noah Hughes, he immediately turned to a franchise favorite: Croft Manor.

"While shown previously only in cutscenes in the campaign of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the Manor represents more than just a place. It is Lara’s legacy. It’s an incredibly important part of her story and the franchise, and like many of you we have fond memories of it from the classic games. So we’re excited to introduce the all-new “Blood Ties” chapter, which will let you explore Croft Manor and unlock its mysteries in a new story mode, then defend it against an undead invasion in “Lara’s Nightmare.”

"The Manor also offered a great opportunity for us to investigate the possibilities with cutting edge VR technology. So for the first time in franchise history, you’ll be able to play “Blood Ties” in first-person through Lara’s eyes!

"Next, we’re adding a new online co-op expansion to Endurance mode. You and a friend can team up to raid tombs and battle for the longest survival run to stay at the top of the leaderboards.

"To celebrate Tomb Raider releases through the years, you can outfit Lara with a re-envisioned version of the cold-weather outfit and the Hailstorm pistol that was featured in Tomb Raider III. In addition, a special card pack will allow you to replay the main story with five classic Lara models. You won’t believe your eyes when you see the original low-poly Lara model in glorious high fidelity Rise of the Tomb Raider cutscenes."

"Finally, along with Endurance mode, all previously released DLC will be included, such as the three hour story addition Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, and the Cold Darkness Awakened pack which forces you to combat waves of infected predators. Not to mention all of the outfits, all of the weapons, and a ton of Expedition Cards. You receive everything in one package!"

"We can’t think of a better way to celebrate with all Tomb Raider fans, and to thank you for being on Lara’s 20 year journey with us. We’re excited to share more details on the new content in the coming months as we gear up for the launch of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration on October 11!"

All of the above (minus PSVR) is also coming to Xbox and PC.

"What’s even better is that Co-op is a free upgrade to everyone who has purchased Endurance as a standalone DLC, or received it as part of the Season pass. In fact, if you already own the Season Pass, you’ll receive all of the new 20 Year Celebration content on Xbox One and PC for free."

So the PS4 version is still on for Rise of the Tomb Raider and it's the definitive version. Sounds good to me!

I'll probably get this since I gave away my X1 before buying any of the DLC after beating the game last year.

VR is going to be confined to the Blood Ties mission. The IGN clip above compared that to Gone Home. So, I'm imagining that the VR aspect is going to involve walking around Croft Manor, picking up objects, examining them, etc. I don't think that much action is going to be involved. Could be wrong.

Hopefully, this will get a Neo-enabled version as well. I think the leaked documents suggested that every game after Oct. 1 would need to have a Neo mode.

Wow, nice.

Hope these new stuff got release also on PC as well.

I would like them to add HDR to the X1 version as well.

However, I should backpeddle and say that Sony isn't mandating what the Neo upgrades are, just that they hit 1080p/30fps. And this is what the dev is already targeting. So, there may be nothing much to a Neo upgrade in this case, especially with the game coming out prior to Neo's launch. It may take a while before Neo mode means a whole lot.
