" Road Not Taken: a procedurally generated puzzle game teeming with deep personal themes. It’s en route for an Aug. 5 launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac."

"Road Not Taken is a hell of a game to sum up in one snappy introduction. Even now, a week removed from the two hours I spent unwrapping layer after layer, I’m not sure I could justifiably say it fits neatly into the outdated genres by which we still categorize."

“We released our teaser trailer. Sony contacted us literally within 24 hours,” said Edery. “They’re like, ‘Hey, this looks like a good fit for our platform.’ And we’re like, ‘Well, it’s funny you say that because we had started to have inklings of thoughts of that, but this really makes a difference that you’re actually reaching out to us.’”

I love games that are teeming with deeply personal themes.

You know it.

Another tidbit:

"You play a ranger in a frigid, enchanted forest, trying to save lost children. You start with a few easy-to-learn abilities. You can pick up any adjacent objects, you can carry them around, and you can throw them. Trees, boulders, bears — they all float at your command. But you need to be careful; whenever you carry things, it costs you stamina. If you run out of stamina, you collapse face-first into the snow. No checkpoints, no reloads. It’s over."

And a video:

I never understood why the checkpoint save system became so popular. I'm glad they and other indie devs are giving a big "f u" to today's so-called standards.

It looks interesting. I'm not sure about the gameplay mechanic, though.
